This is a common perspective mistake I see a lot of artists make when they try to draw the face. Hopefully this explanation can help clear some things up.
"... watching the pewdiepie drawing video and thinking how bad their drawings are despite being artists themselves for years... Just because they're not even practicing while pewdiepie just had a consistent practice habit"
I think a huge issue I have is that I get very lost when trying to use lines like this, it feels very messy and I can’t wrap my brain around how to use them properly
Hey, I know this is a bit old, but something that might be helpful is understanding that each line is a guideline for orienting. So the vertical line on the side is half way on the side and indicates where the ear is. That kind of thing. It lets you break up a big space like a rectangular plane into proportional pieces which indicates where each piece of the face goes. Try just leaning the proportions and the purpose of each line individually before adding everything on. Since it’s symmetric you only have to learn half ;)
Cus the rest is really all up to your style (as long as you keep within the guidelines somewhat or stretch it in a way that doesn’t make it look alien)
i mean, if you want to make sure the head/face is facing any directions correctly, using a cube/box is better than a sphere. you could tell the front side better with a box than a sphere. i usually do both box (for angle/facing direction) and sphere (cuz head is just a ball) for the head.
@@hyara1576 pretty sure he is making a joke that people think the head is 2d(square) like the one in the before photo which is why the ear is in the wrong place So the proper way is to use a box(3d) like what he did in the video
You really do share the most helpful anatomy lessons I learned during my time in art school ❤ Thank you for making this info accessible and digestible!
Just leaving this here: in order to actually find the halfpoint of a rectangle in perspective, join the diagonals. That way it will actually look correct.
been using the box to draw the head for like 8 months now,and my drawings have improved drastically. The Loomis method is overrated, and i trust more Bridgman than him
I have comprehension issues so do you have thing where we can send in photos and get feedback. Also is the ear on its on plane in the box method or seperate? Second question do you keep the head shape in side the box or can you expand it on the outside? And what do you mean half way mark for the ear? Fourth question how would you draw the head looking downwards I dont understand the angle or perspective. Fifth question what is a tapper and what does it help with. I've been avoiding help because I get anxious 😢😅.
A common mistake artists make is getting managed by failure management (They shoulda been like little Timmy next door who is the CEO of apple, sony and EA at the age of 6)
In one video, you say dont curve the features around the head and draw them as if they're on a flat plane, but in this one, you acknowledge the curve. So which is it? Do you or do you not curve the eyes around the head?
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
A common mistake alot of artists make drawing the head is not just learning the loomis method lol. Boxes like these never helped me until i learnt the Loomis method and it changed mt life

1) draw a box
2) " from there just draw the rest of the face"
I mean very true, but he also definitely showed everything he did to get from point a to point b, so his is way better than most so far
