I understand Killua's fear completely. The ocean is a dangerous place with many dangerous creatures in them. As a kid, at the barbershop my dad took me to, our barber told us one of the old regular customers we knew was a survivor of the USS Indianapolis.
I can relate to killua being scared of the water creatures, I myself is absolutely TERRIFIED of crabs, in fact my family always made fun of me for it, they used to chase me around while holding one, my fear amused them 😢😢😢😢
As a kid I went to the Newport Aquarium in Kentucky which is pretty cool but been a long time since I've been there. The place where they had penguins was my favorite. A penguin would jump into the water on one end of the enclosure and swim to the other side. Me and other kids always tried to race them and see if we can run faster than they can swim. They also had cute otters and of course Sweet Pea the celebrity shark ray.

When I was 19 I got startled by a horseshoe crab in the shallow water on the beach at Fripp Island, South Carolina thinking it was a sting ray.
