    Very informative as always. I've been practicing the 1-minute floating ever since watching you recommend it shortly after I started OWS in 2020. It is THE single most useful tip for newbies as well as experienced swimmers.

    • @EverydayAthleteRach
      @EverydayAthleteRach  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm pleased you found that tip helpful, it also leads to a much less panicked start to the swim 🏊😀

    Really like the touch of doing a “liter pick” to give back. Once I start my open water swimming, I’ll include a liter bag in my kit.

    Thank you Rachel, with your videos I was able to go swimming in the North sea which is directly opposite my house, I’ve just been staring at it anxiously, wondering if I’d ever take the plunge. I haven’t swum in 16 years (I’m 31 now), and admittedly, I was a little panicked as it was difficult getting my breathing right, but tomorrow is another day! Your brilliant videos gives so much confidence, I really couldn’t have done it without you, x

    It’s still Monday night here in northern 🇨🇦 and what a great way to end my day with a bit of inspiring info from you, Rachel, about the Wild Swimming movement. I’m hoping to pop on over to my local lake tomorrow after school (Tuesday) and see if the ice has melted. If so… the sightseeing trip will quickly turn into a swim trip. The water will be chilly, but like you mentioned… expect it, and let your body adjust as needed. I love the beach scenery and the lovely purple flowers, and of course your cheerful and informative approach to this wonderful lifetime sport that we all love. Thanks for sharing… cross your fingers for melted ice!! 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary🚫🧊

      I've got my fingers crossed that the ice has melted and you hand at least have a float Mary. It's been a long time coming, seems like you've had a really long winter this year. Still, summer's coming! Be sure to take a warm drink with you and don't get so cold you can't beat the bears to the truck! 🏊🐻🚙☕🔥😃

      @@EverydayAthleteRach Rachel, it’s quite funny that you should mention bears… my partner saw the first bear of the season just a few days ago. J is doing a major reno on our greenhouse, and suddenly… there he was… a fuzzy little bear hanging out in our garden just below the greenhouse. I have yet to see my first Spring Bear… but they’re out there. Like you said… it’s been a hella long winter. 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary🐻

      It must be lovely to see a real bear. I saw a gummy bear once....it was sad and all alone and raspberry flavoured so I ate it.
      Apart from bears; isn’t it absolutely wonderful how our love of swimming in all of its various forms and guises spans the entire world and turns something so deeply personal into a way to connect, converse, enjoy and share on the most fundamental level? I’ve never ever, in fifty five years, met one single unhappy swimmer...(apart from the time when I watched my own goggles sinking past me). Thanks Mary and bear, thanks Rache for another great vid and bringing more of us together. You’re a great ambassador and I love your shark t shirt!

    Helped and inspired by your content on this channel, this morning I finally did my first swim without a full 6.5 mm freediving wetsuit. My time fully immersed was a matter of seconds rather than minutes so calling it a "swim" might be an exaggeration but I was satisfied that I didn't gasp or scream. The water was 11 C but the air was a nice 17 C with only a 10 km/hr wind. Now, hours later, I am still feeling a bit euphoric. Thank you for making these videos.

      A swim's a swim's a swim. Doesn't matter how long you're in for. The benefits are seemingly reaped in just a couple of minutes! Well done, and thank you for your kind words. I hope you're planning on getting in again soon 🏊😀

  • @swiminthesea6391

    Great advice as usual. I had two lovely open water swims over the Easter holidays - one in about 10°C wt and a full wetsuit and one in a different lake at about 12°C or 13°C in a shorty hybrid wetsuit. Each time I finished off with a bikini dip (plus gloves and booties) which felt delightful.
    It's definitely time to get into cold open water more often now before the water gets too warm and the duck mites appear. Luckily lidos are going to open soon over here in Germany.
