    Vermont is also from French, as is Oregon! Idaho is a mystery but at the very least was *claimed* to be from a Shoshone phrase, too.

    How did the influx of Scandinavian immigrants affect the Utah dialects? People from northern Utah tend to sound different than people in northern Utah. I think more Scandinavians went south, whereas more British Isles immigrants stayed north.
