    i bought the Kabar kukri in 2012 and have used it every year for camping, trimming trees, splitting wood and cutting rope and such and have sharpened it maybe twice. as long as you arent chopping rocks with it, it will keep a workable edge for a long time.

      I bought one in 2008? And it’s been the best knife I’ve ever bought. Indestructible after years of camping use, and still sharp after years in storage.

    Ive had a cold steel kukri for around 14yrs. Great for chopping the hand off of thieves! I put a rubber grip from a garden hose on the handle because its uncomfortable. Ive used and abused it in every possible way and it still works great.

      I know this is an old post, but I have a Cold Steel Gurkha Light Kukri that I carried to war (no, it was not used in any gruesome h2h or anything) because I could not afford the much heftier Gurkha Kukri. The Cold Steel Gurkha kukri *machete* tested here is not the same animal, it's a lot thinner and lighter (and cheaper). I'd still buy one, but doubt it'd hold up to the OG leg-chopper ones. Hang on to that thing. They may make them still but I've not seen one in a long time.

    I have a K-Bar kukri machete that I used for years in my job as a field ecologist. Its my favorite field knife. I like the weight-forward design for chopping. The thickish blade stock is a bit heavier increasing chopping power. I keep the recurved part of the blade a bit sharper for cutting vines. I like the way the sheath attaches and tying it to your leg through the lower loop minimizes getting the knife hung on limbs while traversing thick brush.

    I've had the Kabar kukri for 15 years now and used the hell out of it. The bean counters must have changed the coating to something cheaper, because the stuff on mine isn't sandpapery, and it's never chipped or flaked off. Probably one of the ways they kept the price point at

    I’ve tried many low to mid range Kukris and the Kabar blows them all out of the water. I think it’s the hollow grind, but whatever it is makes this thing a beast. Deep smooth chops that take of tons of meat.

    The Gurkhas used these in the second world war, originally they brought them along to look macho when shaving. But soon found out that they were useless for shaving or trimming their hair in the field, but were excellent at removing the entire head. The moral of this story is; never ask a Gurkha for a hair cut.

    Walking down the "SIDEWALK" IN Placencia , Belize Central America, in the back table under tourist stuff was butt end of a handle, a very old KUKURI. My head of security in Nigeria , YAM RHY was a retired Gurkha who had been senior non-com of jungle WAREFARE training for the Brits in Belize. Before he died he left me his Hat. LIke to think he made sure I got the blade he used. Appears to be hand made from spring steel. Rest in peace my Brother, I got it.

    Thank you for a straight up review! JFYI: Before we go any further-I hope you NEVER use the term "blood groove", for those that do simply don't think! Long ago I learned from a well known knife maker that the groove began somewhere around WWI (ish, I believe)-as the only tech way to lighten a longer blade length! Just tryin' to help-again, thanks! Take care, "GOD Bless", sincerely -
    P.S.: You're right as the rock cutters were ABSOLUTE craftsmen!

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I continue to use the term blood groove! I’ve had this conversation at length in the comments of other videos. It’s a colloquial term sure... but it goes back much further than you think. It had been used by knife makers to describe the fuller... and most importantly it triggers people!
      Look under etymology: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuller_(weapon)

    Got a cold steel machete Kukri the other week just got around to sharpen and polishing the edge today it comes dull but I like that as I can put my own edge on. It seens pretty good but I don't like how thin it is compared to regular kukris. Haven't tested it yet but will do on the weekend. I own a hand forged Nepalese Kukri but even though it's full tang I just have it on display I don't have the heart to take it out camping/bushcraft with me lol am weird I just love the thing it's a work of art. Thinking about getting a British army standard ceremonial Kukri for display and using the full tang in the field

    @charlescollier7217 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Highly entertaining as ever :). When you can, you may want to try the Royal Kukri Machete from Cold Steel. It's longer, much more like a kukri in design, and packs way more chopping power. Same limitations for hardwoods though, as it is thin and flat sheet metal with a ground edge. Upside, you can catch it on sale for $20 or less, and in the coming Zombie Apocalypse, it will serve way better as a makeshift weapon. That being said, I REALLY need to get my hands on one of those KaBars - seems like a pretty sweet short machete option, especially if I can catch a sale.

      I hate my griptillian so much but it's the best damn steel I've ever had. I got it as a birthday gift so I use it as a work knife. It won't die.

    The cold steel Gurkah kukir looks better than there machete but for the price I can get 2 Nepalese hand forged kukris not sure if could justify that purchase

      Yes... it's a little out of my price range when I already have a few kukris I already like.

    cs machete comes with a horrible dull edge,without sharpening , it is not fair to the kukri.

    Review the KHHI ECHO since it seems to be in the same range (price and quality) as the Vakra.
    Do it so you can tell me which to spend my money on.

    I love my KaBar kukri. Bought it long before I became a backyard warrior and have recently used it to split firewood and do stupid ass things with shipping pallets before I got my not-very-necessary (according to wife) ax. It's awesome to swing around when your neighbors show their stupid faces while you do yard work. Also possibly good protection during a home invasion, cannot confirm. Depending on what you're doing the handle vibrates like your mom's bedside toy, so men only.

    Gets your hands on GGK or kailash khukri, which are original and heavy duty khukri. These looks like cheap stamped out khukri.

    Cold Steel Gurka Kurki plus for $700 is discontinued because Bill Gates stop using them on safari in Africa. Do they work? Just as Lynn Thompson says, Hell Yes! I can buy a Glockenspiel cheaper.

    Tora blades are overrated, notice they never got a contract with the Gurkhas for kukris, they've only been in business since 2005 and the only proponents for their product is the owner and sweetcostarica (who no one knows who he is). Also, you front the cash up front and what for at least 6 months for the product, no one else in the business does this. For more information there is a 3 part video from The Kukri House pointing out the smear campaign that Tora has been running for years...apparently everybody else makes tourist kukris but them.

    Like the honesty! Cause your so open and have a youtube channel I'm going to dump on you all my problems. 📝🤓
    I love quality and hate the price, generally everything I like I have to build myself cause I'm not willing to pay overprice for crap or mediocre products. Considering the time and effort in researching and wait time for purchasing and shipping costs.... End result is probably more efficient for me to put my time in making it myself. (I'd rather the BK-21 anyway, but cost too much for me considering where it lacks in scabbard design...and i like a polished blade)

    The first time I purchased the Kabar 1249 it came beyond razor sharp, accidentally lost chunks of skin on my fingertips just from feeling the edge lightly Lol but I chipped that blade on a rock than turned it into a beater after sharpening, I recently purchased a second one and it arrived not even close to as sharp. & I also had the case of chipping on the spine when performing semi-heavy duty chopping tasks. Overall I love the design but would like it to be made of a better steel with a much better coating , I would pay more for that for sure. And my boss owns that cold steel machete, it's a decent beater but nothin more to be honest.

    FKMD Tactical Kukri also seems nice if you rather want a chopper than an actual machete
