Thanks. After watching this, all I had to do was to make the arm open to the max, then force (carefully) it to open a little bit more, and then close it again to test. It was now reaching the switch correctly. No need to dissasemble anything. :-)
This video was just terrific. I just received my sealer in the post. Turned it on, no red light , no heat! I provided feedback to the Ebay seller. Then thought I'd see if anyone else had a similar problem. I found your video. Clear description of the problem. Just took off the bottom of my sealer and found the same problem. A gap between the receiving plate and the circuit-completing plate. A small bend with pliers and click, Yeah! Just tested with a bag, sealed! Many thanks.

Thanks for making this video, you gave me the courage to open up my unit. Unfortunately, with the unit plugged in and pressing the micro switch, the light didn't come on. But it was easy enough to order a replacement switch and I will install it when it arrives. Hopefully that will solve the problem...at least (thanks to you) I didn't automatically order a new impulse sealer!!!
Thank you so much! I bought a sealer off of Mercari, however it wasn't working. I had the same issue as you..Did exactly what you did in your video, and it worked!
Thank you so much! I was getting really frustrated with my sealer that stopped working after one day of use. I was just about to send it back... It was an easy fix and you saved me so much trouble!
What a great video!! I was reading Amazon reviews of various brands, and many had this same issue of no response. I'll share your video as I have an opportunity. Thanks!
since day 1 my impulse heat sealer had two modes, no seal or melt the plastic. no in between whatsoever. $80 for it too (with the bag cutter). i changed the teflon thing and wire several times, same thing. so i eventually bought a knockoff on amazon for $24 that has worked perfectly. but would really love to know what the issue could be with my original one.
There can be a few reasons. Do you remember where it sparked from? Was it from inside the case? (I hope it wasn't sparking at the wall outlet!) The most likely reason is that a wire is touching something it shouldn't, perhaps because it's been bumped badly or because its insulation has degraded for some reason. I've seen this happen before between the heating element and the chassis. Was this unit accidentally dropped maybe? Fall off a shelf? The other place I see it happen is with the heating element wire(s) in the handle. That would actually be 'arching". Sometimes the PTFE cloth will get a little hole in it that allows the wires to touch where they shouldn't. You can buy a replacement cloth and replace it yourself. I would replace the heating wire element at the same time. (check the box, many units ship with a spare or two). You can also buy these online. The fix might cost you $10 and take 10 minutes. If it was sparking from the wall outlet, DO NOT plug the unit in again. It's dangerous and should be left to a professional. ...if it's the heating element wire, fix it yourself!
Going to try this I got 1 right out of the box never worked so I sent it back to Amazon number 2 replacement worked for like 6 seals and stopped they said contact seller so I did after jumping thru hoops and stuff to try still nothing they are sending number 3 told me to trash number 2 so I will try this I wish I had looked here first might kept me from pulling out my hair when this damn sealer made me look bad with a new customer . Thanks for the video.
Great video, unfortunately I'm having a slightly different problem. I hear the clicking sound and the light goes on, it's just not getting hot enough to seal the bags, even at the highest setting. I can feel some heat and see a bit of steam on the bag, but no seal. I changed out the heating element and teflon tape and cover, still no seal. Any suggestions?

@@Botanifiles Check the heating element and the connections to the heating element arnt broken. My heating wire had broken on the inside of the machine
Just want to point out, never disassemble any kind of electrical/electronic unit while the 125 Volt mains AC plugged in... that is just a electrical shock hazard, even with the switch turned off, always remove the mains AC plug before disassembly. Use a multimeter with the continuity setting to see what or what not is making continuity.
could you do a trouble shoot with a foot operated impulse sealer I'm having much the same problem but not sure how to go about fixing the equivalent mechanism
My sealer powers on for varying amounts of time even though I'm not changing the timer setting. For example, the first time I press it down it stays on for about 1.5 seconds. The next time I push it down, it only stays on for 1/2 a second. This has happened with two different impulse sealers I've used. Do you know what the problem could be?
Thanks for this question. The on/off mechanism is based on heat, not time. There might be a problem with the mechanism. Or, maybe you’re just not allowing enough time to cool between uses. This is a common problem when trying to rapidly seal a bunch of bags. I suggest slowing down to see if it helps. The sealers that can go fast are very expensive. If you still have have two, maybe try running both and alternating. One cools while the other seals. just a thought. Good luck! Please let me know if these suggestions helped. If not, we’ll try something else.
@@TroyCraft Great hypothesis, I will try it. I usually seal each bag twice because I'm paranoid about them leaking so I am doing two seals back-to-back. I started with a 2mm sealer and upgraded to a 5mm sealer, which has helped a lot with leaks. I will now try waiting in between seals and just doing one good seal. Thanks!
I didn't check the transformer for output voltage. That's a really solid component, so it seems unlikely to me that it's the problem. I wonder if your heating element has lost contact with the pins perhaps. The element itself might be fine (and test for continuity). But maybe one end of the element has slipped off the pin. They are easy to knock off when you turn the thing upside down and remove the cover.
If anyone else is having a different problem ita probably because the little wire under the teflon isnt making connect with the metal piece right next to it.. Just bend the metal piece a little bit so it make connection when the button is pressed down
Thank you. I'm not sure what you mean by "timer". Are you saying the heating element turns on, but does not turn off? If so, I think the switch is perhaps getting stuck by the small metal plate that is meant to protect it.
Has anyone run into the sealer tripping your power outlet? I tried two different GCFI outlets in the kitchen each tripped when I plugged the sealer in - both reset just fine & are working for other kitchen appliances. The box/information sheet doesn't talk about watts/amps, but other countertop appliances aren't having difficulty. Could it be wiring in the sealer?
Well, it could simply be you’re already at the top threshold rating of your GCFI. or, it could be that the sealer has a current leakage. …maybe a short to ground because of broken heating element. Does it seal at all? When does it trip the GCFI?
@@TroyCraft Troy, thanks for responding. I can't get it to work without tripping different breakers. okay, if it trips when you're just inserting the plug, we can be sure it's the sealer and not your GCFI. I think what's happening is that your sealer is already in the "ON" position as you plug it in. Does it have an on/off switch? if so, set it to off. Also, some sealers come with a little clamp that holds the dealing bar (handle thing) in the down position. You want it in the UP position when you plug in your unit. ...when you plug in, it should look like the sealer in my thumbnail-- handle up. If THAT still trips the GCFI, you could take a look inside the sealer (UNPLUGGED). I would be looking for a few things: 1) is the heating element in tact. 2) is the ground wire attached to the frame. 3) is there any strangeness where the plug enters the machine?
