We haven’t been this in love with an SL-Class since the late 90’s, early 2000’s era. Mercedes-AMG definitely nailed the design. Would you guys get this over a comparable Porsche 911?
This interior - with the gauge screen still separated from the center console - looks better than other MB interiors with screen overload. Overall, this car is absolutely gorgeous.
After they killed of my beloved W222 S-Class Coupe, I'm now back in love with MB coupes, which was something that was a hallmark of the brand for decades. This car is exquisite. MB-AMG seemingly blended sport, luxury, and presence altogether. And due to the meancing front end and curvaceous body, it shows so well in the more exotic AMG color palate than the typical silvers and blacks associated with MB and German cars.
Mercedes direction with just sticking that tablet crap in all their cars is just bleh. It's easily been the most talked about and controversial thing in their new interiors and for good reason. It gets loaded with fingerprints, dust, and it looks like an after thought. Their old dual screen layout with the gauge cluster and the infotainment side by side was so clean with physical metal buttons for the climate and a physical volume control. Auto manufactures think this is what people want when people just want stuff that works.
Agree, no one can say they don’t make great interior, but the new style of infotainment just feels like it intrudes on the design and makes it less elegant feeling. Well integrated tech is better than simply more tech!
I agree, interior looked wonderful then tablet made it look cheap somehow. Didn't like that it sat on top of the dash instead of tilting back into the dash. Interior felt even more crowded
I feel weird for feeling the need to say this, but thank you for not using any sort of mean or demeaning words when a cop happens to make an appearance during your filming. I guess in today’s climate I almost expect it. But I’m a police officer and also probably one of your biggest fans 😂 So thank you and as always keep up the good work!
don't know if it's this blue color or the tail light design but this SL iteration actually looks quite edgy like LC500 or current day Supra.. definite refresh here -that's good enough for SL still while retaining its business luxury acumen. there's also the amg gt selections in the mix for more major dabbling!
I’m soooo f’n excited!!!!!! We ordered ours today, from Plaza Motors & it’s going to be black with white interior❤️❤️❤️. Bye bye Porsche 911 & hello new love!
I don't care what anybody says my 2018 SL63 was an absolute highway beast... I loved it... it was awesome, it handled great and random people took pictures of it.. It was definitely a statement.. and at 6' 5" tall I fit in it perfectly... it ran middle 11s in the quarter mile easily, And no I would not take it to the track and try to track race a 911 but It was definitely a very nice car with a split personality.
@@twfinc6855 Always some dickhead hating in the comments when people discuss cars. I plan on getting this to go with my GLE 63 S and my wifes GLC 43. Owned Benz for years and NEVER had an issues so I'm a happy camper!
LC500 is gorgeous but it's quite slow. The fact that coupe form came out in 2017 makes it almost a 5 years old "new" model even though convertible came out in 2019. That said, given the right price I'd love to pick one up used as a weekend car.
There is one main problem with the 2017-2019 LCI version of the SL ( I own 2017 and love it- except for...) - the engineers KILLED the BACK SPEAKERS! Everyone who owns one knows this and everyone hates this. The SL being a convertible, should have PERFECT sound, top up or top down IMO. If they fixed this simple thing- HUGE step in the right direction. The engineers/accounts who did this should be cas trated.
The GT is in a different league and will always be more pure sports car… RWD, in wheel double wishbone suspension, rear transaxle, dry sump oil system, mid engine placement, a driver focused cockpit, 2 seats only… the GT will appreciate well
I mean this is more of a luxury/sport cruiser, the AMG GT is more of a pure sports car. I've test driven both and this is more comfortable IMO. The GT is quicker and more visceral. I prefer the SL
Great review, thank you. I suggest that it would be great if you offer good pictures to download, nobody does. About this SL great looking car when closed, but an awkward looking one when the top goes down.
making a roadster longer makes it look more sporty? depends on your definition of sportiness, but usually shorter means lighter, more agile. they managed to make it longer AND lighter with the soft top but it could have been even lighter. of course, we're taking about an SL , not a Miata or a lotus so longer is ok, for stability and comfort.
I'm pretty sure you can program the key to roll the windows up or down, and to do other stuff. And you say "hey mercedes turn the heat on". And it usually goes pretty fast. If you say hey mercedes and wait it , it usually doesn't work to good. The MY MB app works really good you can do alot from there. To connect to Bluetooth or Android auto you have to connect threw a wire, but more than one phone will connect to the phone Bluetooth at once...
The car is otherwise gorgeous!!! I’m sure it’s functional, but that wing really killed the look for me though. It’s not subtle at all!! I’m sure I’ll see some of these running around eventually with those stupid drivers who ride with the wing “up” all the time, and then I’m sure I’ll just start hating the way the rest of it looks.
I really wish Mercedes and Porsche (911) would just utilize that backseat area as a large flat cargo space rather than put seats. No one is actually seating anyone back there and it’d be far more useful to have the additional storage room
The SL 55 is the one to get. Forget about the SL 65 with its Night Package, chrome suits this car way better than the high gloss black look. And you don’t want a stiffer suspension with this kind of car, and this kind of car doesn’t need a more powerful engine than what you get with the SL 55.
Why do car manufacturers insist on making so many things software based and not physical? So incredibly stupid that you have to sit there for 15 seconds, holding this dumb slider to the right, to put your top down. Make it a button or switch. Worst trend ever.
Honestly i think nowadays performance is generally really good, but will almost always be beat by electric. So when it comes to ICE cars, i think the experience is important. The shifting, the exhaust, the induction, the power delivery, etc. I think this car does it pretty well (along with say, the LC and IS500 for example.)
I always loved Mercedes ever since my first car a 07 c230 lol but even if I could afford this I don’t think I’d go for it bring buttons back and just ditch the back seat and make like a shelf or something
Hey Mercedes. I have an idea for the next SL: 1200kg, powered by a 3 liter naturally aspirated engine with over 300HP. The AMG adds 300kg and becomes a plug in hybrid for people who love telling other people they love the planet.
We haven’t been this in love with an SL-Class since the late 90’s, early 2000’s era. Mercedes-AMG definitely nailed the design. Would you guys get this over a comparable Porsche 911?
100% id get the over a Beetle
No, I’d get a 911 for sure. I’d need to drive both to be sure though. I prefer the car with better dynamics and the SL is too heavy for me.
Nope, Porsche for sure.
No, and I’d get an 8 Series over it to. The interior just looks tight.
No. I'd still get the Porsche, probably drives better because its lighter, and I prefer a vehicle that dosen't have an iPad tacked on it.
Thanks for having us on the video!
The only thing they messed up on is the roof. It should be a hard top not fabric
Absolutely!!!
this model fits the convertible perfectly, I would drive with the top down if I got the chance to drive it.
The hard top would look nicer but it also adds weight, and the mechanism is more complex + likely to fail over time.
@@caglioso Bingo!!! Which is why I hate moonroofs..
Agreed. The selling point over Porsche
I like the color of the one you got. That blue whould look great in the sun.
my god, that car looks like a million bucks.
Amazing for plastic.
lucky as that is how much you need over time to own one.
Warranty will be fine.

No they killed the coupe 😕😳😢🥺😭Mercedes streaming down..I like the coupe it's bigger than this..convertibles are seasonal..coupes are 4 ever..😔
“Have they done enough to make the AMG class desirable again.” Absolutely. AWD, better suspension, and improved handling.

Gotta start wearing gloves to avoid them prints 😂
unfortunately it's the new trend. And manufacturers love the idea since it's a cheap cost cutting tablet that's "breakthrough tech"
@@omidnamin9004 Considering most people today are glued to a screen it’s funny to hear them bitch about one in the car

Love the genuine back seat review. This is so important to me making a decision to purchase a new SL55. Thankyou.
I haven't been a fan of what MB has been doing lately, but this thing looks great.
This is all so much better than the direction BMW's going...their design/vision is just delusional.
Future Classic! SL63 is a Monster 3.12Sec 0-60 good lord.
Great review!
Thats what a Mercedes should be
Sexy Benz!! Just wish it had a hardtop instead and a smaller infotainment screen. What they have going on is a little busy

What a car man what an engine..
You can actually make the roof go down by just tapping the button once and then holding the button right after.
Can you please do a review on a 2020-2021 C63s coupe ?
It has a Porsche 911 vibe which is actually good because it is one of my favorites.

Is thIs starling bLue, or hyper blue? I know you said hyper but on the configurator it looks more like the Starling blue.
