Seoul is a very fantastic city to travel. All food prices already include taxes and no extra tips. Most of the attractions, including Hongdae, Gangnam Station, Insadong, Myeongdong and the Palaces, are easily accessible by subway. First of all, security is excellent so you can walk around safely at night!

Fun Fact: People consider Canada as safe country in general. Comparing South Korea vs Canada, in terms of crime rate, you are 2.4 times more likely to get murdered in Canada than in South Korea. You are 20 times more likely to become a victim of auto theft in Canada than South Korea. So, yes, Korea is very safe country to travel to.

Korean public transportation system is the best in the world. You can transfer from subway to buses using the one metro card. Very convinient and cheap as well. Seoul city provides lots of free wifi everywhere you go and it is very fast even though it is free. Also even inside a subway train, there is a wifi connection as well so you can use internet even inside a train. Korea provides the fastest wifi in the world(they are using 5G nationwide right now) so you never have to worry about not having internet connection over there. It is also a very safe country where you can walk around alone late at night without worrying much about safety. Seoul is definitely a fun, vibrant, lively, sleepless city.

Japan has no real reflection like Germany. 90% of Japanese are not sorry for the history of genocide, mass rape, and looting if they invade Korea and other Asian regions. Japanese history education teaches that Japanese ancestors protected Asia. If Japan doesn't provide proper history education, we can't be friends. Germany made history textbooks with neighboring countries. Japan should learn from Germany.

Hong Kong, one of the most significant cities around the world, was too densely populated and fee of the transportation was too high. Osaka and Kyoto, those cities were very clean and beautiful, but snacks and transportation were quite expensive. And Taipei, you can travel there with low budget but the streets weren't clean enough. Indonesia, Philippines and other southeastern asian countries, they cannot even compete with them.

I know what you mean, when I've been to NY as well as Europe, like Italy and the Netherlands. I was so impressed of the cleanliness and the advanced built subway stations and trains in Seoul. I think the other countries need to revamp and build their public transportation vehicles too, but it does take a LOT of money for such investment.
It was old, nothing like the Korea today 20 years ago. Korea had progressed and advanced so quickly past 10-15 years or so. I think the country can build such system, as they invest A LOT into the public infrastructural facilities with their high technologies. It's a small country, and why I think they can do this, unlike the US. Still, I think the US can invest in the public transportation for cleanliness and such, but there are people who're not "well" to roughen up the newly built things with graffiti and whathaveyou. Sad.

@@ddtattooist9386 maybe cafes as coffee is expensive in Korea, but definitely not supermarkets other than certain fruits and beef. Glad to see this video. You put a lot of useful and correct tips for tourists, from the perspective of a local person. I loved that you introduced a chargeable card in metro :) Many Koreans use it in their daily lives. Also, normally credit/debit cards in Korea have a function for transportation, so people can attach their credit cards to the machine and the fare is paid directly from their bank accounts. No need to top-up!
Also, I think it is 'experiencing local people's nightlife' that maximizes happiness in travelling Korea.
5~6 GBP foods are great to make you full, but I strongly recommend tourists to try Korean barbecue for dinner, no matter pork(samgyeopsal) or beef. Korean local alcohol 'soju' will be a good pair of it. Visit a barbecue restaurant in group(at least 2 ppl) and pour soju in each other's glass. You can try some games that people in 20s or 30s play while drinking. And then you can go to a bar for the 'second round''. Obviously it will cost more than what the video mentioned, but will give you a wonderful memory.
Many Thx for making this video! From S.Korea

And in the end of your trip you can get the 5000won back if you return it to the ticketing machine so it's kind of deposit money for it.

Best place to exchange currency is Myeong Dong, the stores right in front of the Chinese Embassy. They have the best deals, along with most of the other stores in MD. Don't exchange your dollar(euros or yen, etc) in your country, when it may be more expensive than in Korea. I live in the US, and I noticed the places in MD had so much better deals than the banks in the US.
When you arrive at ICN airport and you have no Korean won, just exchange a small amount at the airport currency exchange for the transportation fare, then when you arrive in Seoul, head to MD. You can take the airport limo bus (10,000 Won/ less than $10) to Seoul. There are several airport buses that go to Seoul so you need to find out the nearest bus stop to your place of staying.

By the way i recommend you guys to check out Jong-ro area for sure. hong dae and gang nam is great. but Jong-ro has more interesting places that you can experience old seoul and new seoul at the same time.

To put it more precisely, if you want to stay in private motel, on average it comes to around 60$ US on weekends and over 40$ on weekdays
there are not many people who want to grab a meal at a convenience store during short travel, so if you want to have popular dish in Korea like grilled pork belly meat, it will cost you around over 25$ for two people. Including drinks, it will increase more. The price of the grilled meat on this footage was technically about per 150g. don't get fooled :) even though Seoul trip won't be cheap trip, you will definitely get happy with that. 24 hours PC cafe, multi-karaoke, the use of delivery service at any places are my recommendation and there are tons of trendy suburbs in Seoul other than typically popular ones like Gangnam and HongDae. The more you study Korea, the happier you are.cheers

I love Myeongdong! I used to live 15mins of walking distance from it; that was my go-to place when I was bored, wanted to do some "eye-shopping" or felt like eating street food. The restaurants are indeed more expensive than in other places, so I would spend my money only on clothes (H&M, Forever21 have A LOT of discounts), make-up (they give so many free samples and masks!) or stationary (Daiso anyone?). I think it is definitely worth a visit so that tourists can enjoy all those neon lights and the overall uniqueness of that place! :)

You should expect to pay around 10,000 KRW when you're going to anywhere near tourist attractions. 5000~6000 KRW is a very unrealistic price for a meal, except for some districts near the university. Also, beside Kakao Taxi there are other must-have apps like Naver Maps, Kakao Subway, and Mangoplate. Naver Maps is a prevalent map app in Korea because Google Maps sucks in Korea. (Some legislative issue banned Google from using the more accurate map.) Kakao Subway is obviously a subway app. Mangoplate is a restaurant review app that you can search based on food categories or your location. You won't screw 90% of the times if you just go to the top-ranked places in the app. All three apps support English in their language settings so make sure to make use of these apps unless you have a Korean friend to guide you.

3:18 The restaurant he introduced is a famous noodle cooking restaurnts in Korea. It is a franchise restaurant made by Gordon Ramsay in Korea and is popular with locals at reasonable prices. You can easily find it anywhere in Seoul because it is a very famous chain store. In fact, the price of meals in hongdae is more expensive than other places in Seoul.

Yes it’s more expensive than Vietnam, Thailand and other countries you named BUT it’s SO much safer- and it’s an industrialized country! The life quality is different than for example Vietnam’s.
Edit: the tmoney (subway) card can also be used in other parts:)

Jeonju, located south of Seoul, is cheaper than Seoul. This is like looking at the price difference between Eastern and Western Europe. However, there are several infrastructure differences. For example, there is a problem such as the presence or absence of a subway. However, there are several advantages over Seoul. If there is no traffic jam or the taxi fare is low, you can go anywhere in 2 hours to take the fastest train from Korea to another city. Jeonju is close to the center of Korea. I hope this long article will help you travel. Good luck.(P.S.: My English may be awkward, so I would appreciate your understanding.)
