Impressive setup!! Well done. I was reading online that Humblefish suggests keeping the tanks a good distance away. Due to airborne cross contamination. Just thought I should share.
Thanks, I heard about it but was wondering how realistic is it - I can't imagine a flatworm traveling outside the tank but probably would need to read up on it.
Adding some peppermint shrimp and a dragon face pipefish to your stage 1 tank would help with critter control. In case the aiptasia and such starts growing on the rocks and egg crate. I'm gonna add some to my own tank once they become available.
Another great video Dmitry! Love it! You also give me some ideas for dipping hahah, by the way, my first Acro, valida, still going strong, start incrusting and gained some color 👌
Looks good Dmitry! I too have a fish and coral QT system in the same room, right next to each other. Cross contamination is a real concern when the two systems are running concurrently - Ich/velvet for instance has been found to aerosolize up to 10 feet. Depending on how and when you transfer fish and corals to the main display, and what you are putting in, you can mitigate this risk, but I'm not taking any chances... I'm only running either coral or fish system at the one time, and sterilizing the entire systems in between. Usually we are quarantining more corals on a regular basis, once you stock the tank with fish, so I envision my two tanks eventually not having to jockey for priority. I've tried keeping water chemistry separate from the display tank for the coral QT, and it is a pain and less stable than it could be. So, what I also do is do a daily water exchange from the main display into the coral QT, then replace the water taken from the DT with fresh saltwater. This adds a little alk/cal/mg and some nutrients to the QT everyday. I use three Versa pumps for this. Two separate coral QT tiers is pretty cool - very thorough! Looking forward to seeing the new tank setup!
Thank you! I always wanted to do it right and so far this is the closest I could get. You are right - cross contamination is possible, I'm not too worried about ich/velvet as my main focus is corals and my fish tank does have a lid. I guess I'm buying a piece of mind here knowing that chanced of adding something bad to my tank are extremely low.
As always, great content. Are the corals that you sell going through this process? If so, do you have some beginner corals that have passed through your coral QT yet?
Thanks for sharing your experience. Could you please clarify why do you need stage 2? Isn't it a bit overkill? Aren't your corals clean enough after a month at stage 1?
Great question - I saw that Jason Fox was doing it in his farm and with this hobby one can never be sure as to what will make it past you. I figured that giving an extra month or two of buffer time in a stage 2 system is an extra insurance that might be quite useful. Definitely an overkill, but a good peace of mind.
Zach, I don't run any medication at this time - just lots of biological filtration, water changes and balanced diet. I do have some ich in my main system and from what I've attempted in the past I am ok with having ich as the amount of work/effort there is simply unattainable for me.
Great chat on Reefbumbs. So cool I’m in NYC watching a guy in Vermont told to a guy in Toronto Canada. My wife thinks I’m a nerd. Lol
Wives are always right. :) And thank you!
Great video, some close ups of different pests and what they would look like under a magnifying glass/what to do would have been cool!
Great suggestion, I think that once I have some new corals incoming there will be a good demo of the actual pests. I'll keep that in mind.
Excellent. I have to setup a QT for fish and corals, its difficult to allocate time for this but it has to be done now that I have space.
Yeah, I was holding off for as long as I could, but now - definitely worth it.

@@TreasureCorals i don't think it's that but more like bacteria or something from mist or vapor. I think he said 10' or perhaps more. I forget.

Good idea, I added one shrimp to it and never saw it there again :)
@@TreasureCorals They are true masters of hide and seek. I find molts in tanks I thought didn't have any shrimp left lol

That is great to hear, Nelson!
Excellent video man. I think you have a great routine. Cheers 🍻

Thank you, none are going through it just yet - I'd expect they will be available in about six months, but that's the long-term goal for me, yes. :)
@@TreasureCorals thanks Dmitry, I’ll text you to align on timing.

You mention that you haven’t lost any fish during your quarantine process.. what medications do you run? The standard prazi pro and cupramine?

Hey which bone cutters are those and how do you like them? I need some new cutters for fragging
These are large Boston Aquafarm cutters, I love them. Very easy to use and while they are curved - they are super sharp.
