I think the voodoo lady already saw the dads fate with the moms reading. She did the spell just for laughs. Which is why she said a man will fall on his own sword.
I side-eye people that don’t side-eye the father. Him only dancing with one daughter in public. The fact that his daughter was tasked with making him “ feel good “. The inappropriate “maturity “ , if you understand the psychology of grooming and incest it’s cut and dry. There’s boundaries between parents that should be clearly defined. A hug and a “ go back to bed “ is the healthiest response. Also often perpetrators will blame the victim and say that the child came on to them. A child is a child’s regardless. It was incestuous at the very least emotionally but I believe also physically
This is definitely the type movie that if you watch as a child, you MUST watch again as an adult. Your perspective will definitely change and you will see the movie and events differently
This is true. I always said I didnt like this movie. When I watched it as a child it gave me the creeps, because of the daughter father scene. I watched it again last night and really enjoyed it.
One of my favourite movies! Side note, I’ve ALWAYS wanted a part 2. Jurnee and Megan have grown into amazing actors, and as a whole, that cast would SLAY…
I don't see how anyone can not see Cisely as a victim. A kid doesn't grow that type of fascination with their own parent out of nowhere. And even IF he didn't touch her he definitely didn't treat her as a child. The girl was messed up and that didn't come from nowhere. So even if his version was the true one he still created that problem.
I remember watching the movie in one of my clinical assessment classes years ago. The topic was family secrets, incest, boundaries, and other themes. I always felt both parents created an messy atmosphere with no clear boundaries for the children. The children were passing alcohol at the party. Mom jokes around and ask one of the children if they were drunk. Mom and dad had their clear favorites and Eve is left with no one except her aunt. I also believe Dad is a narcissist and played around with Cicely and has her in his pocket. Also, very typical of narcissistic parents. Then he is in shock when Cicely pushes the boundaries. I’m like dad, you had messy boundaries this girl her whole life. What did you think was going to happen? Dad is too busy basking in the glow of his greatness.
Back then they gave kids a little alcohol… Look at Italian and Irish movies… they do the same thing. Life was a bit more intense so during parties they did that… it was monitored and usually made them sleepy… Like ur grandma probably slipping you some cold medicine… Same thing 😅
Cicely was confused by the kiss with her father, because her father had been grooming her the entire time. I hate how Cicely is not seen as a child but a “fast girl”. She is innocent. She was acting out because of the SA. And the scene where Eve is complaining about Cicely taking “baths”, I believe her father assaulted her which also explains the blood. I think the baths symbolizes her trying to cleanse from the event. Mozelle and Elzora had a complicated relationship due to Mozelle always putting her terrible brother in a good light knowing he was a terrible man. Which her karma for that involved her bf’s dying. Since she always exonerated men by neglecting her intuition when it came to them and not holding them accountable. Elzora didn’t do any spells. Louis was going to fall on his own sword. It was Eve who planted the sword at the market with Matty’s husband.
Just recently I found out Roz Batiste had a disable mute brother who lived with them on a wheelchair who witness every scene but they cut him out. And what's creepy, you do see him in the background seeing everything.
I always thought he was sleeping with the child because she's trying to be her mom for him. That's weird to me. I think he cursed his sister when they were younger and when he died it released her from the curse.
I thought so too because why was she so vested in finding or why Eve was crying after seeing them in the garage. She was used to altering her own reality. Their relationship didn’t seem normal. When she got depressed for those two weeks.. yes.
Aunt Mozelle did see what Eve was hiding. It wasn't a mental block, Mozelle saw the horrid story of what Eve was hiding. You find that out at the end of the movie when Eve finds a letter her father wrote to Mozelle. Mozelle apparently confronted him about the incident between him and Cisely. He never had a chance to give Mozelle the letter. Eve confronted Cisely and then made Cisely do the hand vision thing with her. In the vision, you see the truth of what really happened. I feel like the reason the psychic lady's spell worked is because Eve's intentions were set, and she already gave Mr. Mereaux a heads up about his wife.
I say this: Eve’s intentions were dead set - i mean she did have the energy on that doll and she warned the man about the affair. I dont think the voodoo was really done - she was probably duped because the Witch lady already seen the demise when her mom came for the reading. A soilder falling on his own sword - the father’s ego. I dont think on a spiritual level it would have been wise to “ quicken or advance “ what was already to happen”
In the scene where Eve ask Cisely for her hands so she can see what actually happened between her and their father, in the scenes that she see's, she sees Cisely leaning in to kiss her father like she was a grown woman. I believe that's why she keeps repeating "I don't know what happened ". This was a great review of my favorite movie. Thank you
IMO When Eve gave Mozelle her hands and she pulled them away quickly it because she saw what Louis supposedly did to Cecily but she didn’t want to accept what she saw.
She certainly saw what Cicely told Eve because she asked him about it before his death and in the letter, his response sounded as if Mozell fully accused him of it.
Yup. Because that was the whole point of him writting the letter in the first place. It seemed like Mozelle had accused him and he wanted to tell his side of the story of what really happened. When Mozelle saw Eve's understanding of what happen I think she didn't know how to process that information about her brother. Which is why she went and confronted him off screen.
I’ve literally lived a lot of this. My family is the Batiste/Baptiste/family, and we come from Alexandria and Marksville Louisiana and also my family is actually descendants of John Paul Batiste , and Josephine Mayereux I have a aunt Frances who is literally just like on Moselle.
I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this but in the uncut version mozelle and Louis had a wheelchair bound older brother that was in the room when it all happened. He was always in the room seeing everything.
@@roselynholloway7863 Yes and no. We all do voodoo on a daily whether you realize or not. I’ve never done anything with blood, however I have made manifestations candles with my own DNA. I also got a reading from a Babalow a few months ago witch was pretty cool. If anything I lean more toward the ifa tradition
I think the fathers version is correct. Cecilia seems to possess a gift where she’s able to distort the truth. She did it several times in the movie. Once at the beginning with eve, again when she was telling the mother what happened when she went out when they were still on confinement and then again in the end when she told eve her version of what happened that night between her and the father
Yeah. I didn't want to blame the child because she didn't have control in the situation. But, something bothered me about how she acted and how she openly challenged her mother. Then I took in how the aunt would watch Ciecly, and it sent alarms in my head. But I wanted to know if the dad was taking advantage of her or whether Ciecly was no good and obsessed with him. I wish they would've clarified, but I understand why they didn't.😞
I think Cisly had an unhealthy obsession with her father. Knowing that her father cheats makes her jealous. Her going out and cutting her hair to look like her mom's and wearing red lipstick to look older is almost like she wanted to present herself as a grown woman to her dad. Maybe to keep him home. She knows he loves women. She also blames her mother for her dad never being home telling her mom if she runs him off she won't forgive her. Maybe she came on to her dad as a way of doing her mom's job because she thinks she's grown. When her dad rejected her she was embarrassed and when her dad slapped her she was mortified and her feelings were hurt. So she told her version of the story to protect herself and in some way to get back at her dad. She does have a habit of spinning stories in other directions.
@@wonderingmind8547 I think something interesting is looking at the movie as an adult vs a child, as a young person when ppl see girl who act like that, they sweep it under the rug, and say oh she fast or trynna be grown etc, when your an adult you think about how did said child get that way? their groomed/molested etc and thats why they came off like that, because they had their innocence taken from them & they lose that childlike essence Buh I feel like unfortunately allot of ppl especially in urban cultures don’t recognize the signs & blame the child
I think they were both telling the truth. Cisely had a lot of confused feelings, and when the kiss happened, I think she was genuinely scared and didn't fully understand what was happening.
I love this breakdown. Can you review Beloved? Never understood why the dead came back grown. I think death can be manipulated. Ask voodoo priests in Haiti.
@@blaquewitchyaya Cuz why would they do him dirty like that in the same exact way they did Shamar Moore’s cornroll wig in Diary of a mad black woman??😮🤣😂
This is one of my favorite movies ever! I think Mozell told Eve she will harm her if she hurt her mother was because Mozell knew that Eve was beginning to how Louis was with other women. Eve started giving clues to her mother. Mozell said her and Louis were a like. While they had a true love, they both were always searching for more. Mozell knew that her love for another man ended up in death in one of her marriages. She knew that the possibilities were the same for Louis. I think that this ties into the "curse" and gift of the family. They have spiritual gifts and also consumed with lust.
Sicily had the skill of reframing memories, which is useful for blocking trauma. I think she was trying to do that for her sister. I totally believe the father because Sicily already displayed her ability to twist an event, plus she wanted to wash away the truth into the bayou.
1st this is one of my favorite movies. It is the quotes for me straight gems! 💎💎💎💎💎 1. "To certain type of women, I am a hero. I need to be a hero". Louise Batiste 2. "Memory is a section of images, some elusive, others imprinted indelibly on the brain". Older Eve 3. In my day we were grateful for signs and warnings". Granny Batiste The best lesson I took from this movie was to have a full understanding/ know exactly what you want and ask specifically how something will be done. Eve thinking it was going to be a doll and it was not. 👀👀
I believe that the father was ready to transition. He unconsciously involved Eve in creating his demise. This is why she was so privy to certain situations and why he made her feel the way he did. He was including her because he was confident that she could get the job done.
I think the voodoo lady and the Aunt knew each other. They both spoke each others name. Eve was also called “pineapple thief “ this is a fruit of Yemaya. At the time of her aunt telling her about the water and the air while Eve was wearing a blue.
I feel like the reader already saw what happened qhen she did the reading early on and when Eve came to her i think she just took her money and didn't do anything. As far as the dad and Cesiley think he probably had his way with her and tried to silence her by giving her things that's why she felt like this grown woman and did her hair and wore the lipstick, before that he was just telling her things or giving her kisses every now and then he had his own daughter fantasizing over him.
But the curious thing is, Ciecly wore her hair and makeup in her mother's style. I thought she either wanted to replace her mom or the dad might have often commented on how alike she looked to her mother.
The part that has always confused me is we see Eve block Mozelles entry to the vision but then with the letter it’s confirmed that she knows what happened between Cisely and Louis.
If you watch the director’s cut, I think many people will see it much differently. In the director’s cut, Auntie Mozelle actually hears Cisely crying and screaming as if something went on, which is why she goes to her brother to inquire and see if he will tell the truth. I think you can order it in here, let me know your thoughts once you watch!
Interesting while I'm listening to this with earphone my very Christian father randomly comes in telling me don't ever get tarot readings and astrology readings and don't do witchcraft, etc. That is so beautiful that the curse got removed. It's a good reminder that you never know the full story especially since we don't know who's side is the true side. As a baby closet witch and spiritual person I think it's both. He was gonna fall anyways but the Voodoo sped up the process.
Love this movie. Love your breakdown. I’m a descendant of a Jean Baptiste. Can’t say if this is the same person mentioned in the movie but my aunt and I also have premonitions.
One of my absolute favorite movies. I always felt so connected to this movie even till this day. You definitely gave me a new perspective on Eve's sister's situation with her father. Definitely think the father got what he bargained for. Moselle's last fiance seemed like some sort of medicine man himself, so I wouldn't be surprised if he had something to do with the curse breaking.
This was such an amazing review and I'm so glad I found your channel!!! I believe Luis' fate was set the second he started his affair with Mrs. Mereaux. Elzora's hex just sped up the process. I actually believe Cisley because children rewriting memory is a trauma response. Luis has an incredibly inappropriate relationship with Cisley and her Electra complex was the result of her child mind trying to cope with her father's behavior. Her "timely" period also furthers my belief. I think Mozelle had a spiritual husband who saw her earthly marriages as adultery and reacted violently. Luis dying at the railroad tracks was circumstantial enough for his death to be a sacrifice so he could entreat the spirit to let Mozelle enjoy an earthly love/marriage.
“Cisely was distraught, she had to get carried out the church chile” 😂😂😂😂. When you said that I hollered !!! Because it’s always the ones who kept up the most shit be tore up at the funeral .
Luis only married Roz for the image and she didn't make him feel like a hero. When Elzora said to look to your children she knew that they would need her attention because of Luis' death. I think that Cisely and Luis' relationship was inappropriate but I don't think he abused her, however, he lead her to think she was like one of his girlfriends. I got Esu from the penny in Eve's vision, which led me to believe Elzora cursed Mozelle. 2 of a kind meant both were cheaters and gifted.
I believe Cicely had an Electra complex. After Eve told her about Mrs. Monroe, she saw her as competition. She got her period and kind of came into her "womanhood" hence the haircut&lipstick. In her eyes, she was a woman. She didn't comfort him like a child would. She approached him as a woman, which was why he was so stunned and she was upset. He rejected her and she was heartbroken. She behaved just like someone going through a bad breakup. I think Cicely was also gifted ,but in a way where she could manipulate the past/memories. Eve seemed to be the protector /seerer of her family. They couldn't hide anything from her. She always tried to fix their issues but wasn't taken seriously because she was a child. Since, she couldn't save her Dad she saved her sister because she already knew what Mozelle would do to her if she ever found out. I think when Lewis died that "friendly " spirit she shared with her brother also died, which freed her to love genuinely breaking the curse.
Louis saying good night put his nail in the coffin. Mr. Monroe said not to speak to his wife again yet he decided to tell her good night anyway. Good night was his last words.
In the director's commentary it says there is a character cut out of movie...a disabled/mute uncle who sees interaction between Luis and Cisely. the removed him to leave it ambiguous
I believe the father only because Sisley has a past of destroying the truth. And yes I believe hid death broke the curse. I think the voodoo accelerated the events and came back full circle.
I actually believed the dad. I didn’t find it weird that he favored her. I figured she was his first born child and although parents are supposed to love their children evenly he loved her the most. I feel she was embarrassed by what happened and chose to leave.
That's the part I was waiting on. Eve had up a block maybe unconsciously so Aunt Mozelle wasn't able to see Eve, and that semi spooked her. She knew then that Eve was more powerful than she realized.
I think Louis' reckless mouth was always gonna get him in trouble, the pieces were already coming together before Eve paid Elzara. Elzara's spell escalated Louis' death. He might have lived much longer if he won't a marked man. Also when Louis died he continued to work on his family's behalf in the spiritual realm; his first act was removing Mozell's hex. This was an unintended consequence of Elzara doing the spell and of Eve paying for Louis' murder (Wow 😳😳) Elzara definitely didn't intend to uncross Mozell (1. Bc Elzara hates Mozell 2. Especially not if she cursed her in the first place, which I don't think she did). But voodoo and other African religions/spiritualities can heal lineages in many ways bc our enslaved ancestors had to do what it do. I have lots of thoughts and opinions abt that.
@@emanispencer7744 I been thinking that given the (perceived) age difference b/t Elzara and Mozell. Elzara laid a generational curse on Mozell's mother. Obviously I have no evidence based on the movie but it makes sense to me that Elzara and Mozell mama had beef, Elzara hex Mozell mama, and therefore Elzara would hate Mozell bc of her mother. 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
I was always confused about the father daughter kiss. I like the mystery aspect of it, but at the same time,I NEED ANSWERS!! I wish they would've made a part 2 with all the answers 🤷🏾♀️
I believe Cisely; 1. She was 10 years old, a whole child not even a teen. 2. The play on the older, more knowledgeable individual retelling a different version of the story to protect someone. Both times the father is being protected.
I loved this movie and your breakdown. I believe that the daddy died due to his own ego. He already had Mattie around the office, sexing her at home (the shed) and parading her around town. He was so sloppy that kids were in their business. The roots didn't even get a chance to work. Lol. Idk what I believe concerning him and the eldest. I do know that I hated how he pitted her against the mom. Interesting perspective on him being the sacrifice. 🤔
That’s what I believe about the dad’s death too. Perhaps Eve precipitated the inevitable end of a cheater that arrogant by talking to the husband about his wife and her father’s affair.
Yes sis thank you for reviewing this ! I remember watching this when I was younger . It introduced me to spirituality and I knew then spell/root work is real . The movie still gives me the chills . I love your channel forever subscriber ❤
Great breakdown, when I watched it I believe that Cicely was inappropriate with her dad. I believe the dad. The voodoo may have sped up his death. And yes I believe that the dad's death broke the curse for Mizell. I love that the movie had an open ended ending.. This was so INTERESTING ❤❤❤👓 👓 👓
I’m so tickled when you said everyone has hard decisions to make, “whether you want a side part or middle part” etc. etc. 😂😂 your voice is so soothing. I can listen to you narrate anything! 🤍
@pamsunshine9233... The sister kept mentioning how much alike they were. It seemed as if she and her brother were one in the same, just one male, one female. His death may have been (don't know for sure) what was necessary to break her curse. She kept losing me she loved. She loved her brother (ofc differently) dearly, and maybe losing him was necessary. Perhaps if she had died first, he would have calmed down with all of his cheating.
I think Mozelle threatened Eve as a form of “stay in a child’s place” cuz in the end the letter telling the father’s was addressed to Mozelle (so she did confront him) albeit it wasn’t Eve’s fault- Mozelle was probably just hearing that for the first time she said it. And she was alrdy privy to her sister in laws feelings toppled with the reading…. She was prob just in her own mental panic …. in my mind, in my mind 😅
Feel like Cecile got mad at eve because to eve she was just making fun of her big sister but in Cecile's eyes it's like girl you don't even know what happened..like you can tell she was super ashamed and embarrassed about it she probably didn't feel normal and eve unknowingly amplified that shame that Cecile had..
Eve's Bayou is a classic! I think that the dad was a dead man walking since he was messing with Mrs. Mereaux and there were rumors going around, but Eve just expedited the timeframe when she hinted it to Mr. Mereaux and did the Voodoo. I'm back and forth on whether I believe Cisely's recollection of what happened with their dad since she was shown to warp memories, but I do understand it could've been a trauma response to being gr00med. And Mozelle confronting the dad makes me think that he's not as innocent as he tried to make himself out to be in the letter. Regardless of what the truth is, the dad is at fault for being a narcissist with a lack of boundaries and favoritism with Cisely.
Eve absolutely put that in motion. Her intentions were set the whole time and she did the work. Then everything fell into alignment in the end, whether she wanted it to or not. Watching this again really highlights the intent, work, and focus of manifestation for me, thanks.
Two thoughts on the father daughter relationship: There is a term in psychology where the child falls in love with the parent wanting to replace the other parent. I think the teen wanted to be with her father and because he was already unfaithful she figured she had a shot. So when he rejected her is why she was really hurt. On the other had I thought the dad and the daughter was already messing around (touching and kissing). Sense he always chose to dance with her over the other and how she protected him. Especially when she stayed with him and the blood was from losing her virginity to him. Then when he rejected her after the fight she wanted to leave the house. Great break down
I agree I think the daughter thought she could do better than her mother and keep her father. Remember when she told her mother she didn't know how to keep her man👀
Girl, you hit the nail on the head. There are clues. throughout the movie, about their relationship. being inappropriate I do believe that his sister figured out what had happened
I agree remember yaya said when they were stuck in the house and cicely went missing and showed back up with her hair cut like the mom’s and wearing red lipstick that the mom was wearing when the movie came on?!very telling as if she was now the lady of the house bc she no longer trusted her mother’s judgement of the vision like she was the only sensible one..
I interpret the situation similarly to you. We have to look at the intention of why the spell was worked and the free will of those involved. Although the working set certain things in motion, ultimately, it was up to those individuals involved to determine if the working would come to fruition. Louis' ego is what led to his undoing. The working was intended to reveal a truth that everybody knew, but did not want to acknowledge in order to maintain a facad. We see throughout the entire movie how a family with spiritual giftings dealing in truth are able to be dishonest both with themselves and each other. That's why they are able to block one another when reading each other. They have become so good at telling a story/portraying an image that they can manipulate and distort their own vision.
Watched this movie last night, and as someone whose parent was inappropriate with me, I think Cisely's version of events is the truth. People pount out that Cisely hides the truth with the cheating scene, but i did the same thing, because the abuse starts well before getting physical, and that's a survival tactic. The father's letter claiming he wasnt at fault and framing his actions as innocent also resonated with me as something my parent did. And like- if she was infatuated, if she did kiss him, why is she infatuated? It is not just a natural inclination to think of your father that way. It speaks to her father having been inappropriate with her and nurturing those thoughts, which is emotional incest. Cisely still wouldn't be the one at fault.
I love this movie but if you watch this channel up here called axiom amnesia, they also do a review on this. From their review and pieces from the movie they thought that Eve actually didn’t use voodoo but in fact that their family had a curse sat upon them from the local voodoo lady (because of the obvious tension between Eve’s aunt and her) and the events were meant to play out that way and couldn’t have been stopped because of said curse. I think you’ll also like their video ❤
"Some things are better left unsaid." Best line in the movie, and advice I remind myself to this day when I feel myself ready to respond from emotion. Love this movie, and great breakdown! Subscribed!
I heard a theory that the father passed because Mazelle loved him (eventhough thats a brother/sister love) so any man she loves dies. Idk I've just heard that theory...
Thank you! Blaque Witch really enjoyed the way that you recapped the movie Eve's Bayou. It felt as if I was washing for the first time. And your perspective on the characters was right on point. This was very insightful.
As this movie being my all time favorite since childhood, you really did your big one with the recap! Great job! edit: when you reminded us of "sometimes a soldier falls on his own sword" and connected it with him saying goodnight, it made me think of the Knight of Swords in low vibration.
Loveeeedddd this breakdown. I watched eves bayou a couple of weeks ago and I was searching for a good breakdown and couldn’t find one. This brought me so much insight beyond surface level. Great video! Would love to see more !
Yo, there's a whole director's cut with a character that doesn't make the cut who witnessed everything. For the record, I believe that they had a generational curse but not from the psychic woman, just in their bloodline. I think that there were multiple timelines for the father which is why the psychic predicted the death to Roz the mother. I think the voodoo around his spiritual contact gave it the extra kick to bring him to his demise. I think some grooming went into the oldest daughter but mostly emotionally rather than physically. Which is why she is concerned that he'll "divorce us" rather than her mom. Order the dvd of the director's cut or research it a little.
The father knew that his daughter was in love with him! She hated her mother because she thought she would make a better wife! He loved being worshipped and he was with his daughter and his wife knew it! Like so many women did back in that time.He was the curse of that family! And when he died it was broken. Incest was very big in black family in that time between brother and sister as well.
It was definitely his own demise. Plus IFA teaches us that it’s two dates we can’t cheat, the day you were born and the day you will transition to the spirit realm. The dad could’ve changed what happened in between those dates but he didn’t because of his ego. You get back what you throw out! Period!!! I could see him sacrificing himself to free the curse of his sister. He probably had a vision of seeing his daughters having the same curse as his sister. Plus he knew the karma he threw out and let’s face it none of us want to hurt the ppl we love. So I feel he wanted them to have a chance at love and happiness with a partner. In the beginning we know the story of Eve’s great grandparents an enslaved woman and a slave owner. I’m pretty sure so many people cursed that family.
Reading other real readers is something always keep the cleansing going through the whole reading and make sure the space is empty before inviting them in. They are normally buzzing with all types of things
I do think the wax coffin was the reason for the outcome. However, Eve had already laid the foundation. Her rage was the spell. The payment ($20) was the sacrifice & and the coffin with the tag lock were the tools but Eve set that spell in motion herself when she planted the seed into Mr. Mereaux’s perspective. Faith without work is dead. The spell wouldn’t have worked with Eve’s push. The wax coffin helped the events to unfold in a way that death was sure (hence the way the Doctor pushed Mr. Mereaux so far that he was driven to murder.) It always made me chuckle the way Elzora knew exactly what was coming. The idea that the death of the Doc was the sacrifice that broke Moselle’s curse is definitely interesting.

I feel like both versions of the kiss are correct with the fathers side of it. He felt like his daughter was being inappropriate and seeing him as more than her dad which is some type of psychological thing with parents and children you are infatuated with a parent, especially if they’re good to you And the daughter her version is she was just trying to show affection to her father and he rejected her so both versions are true. It’s just their perspectives are different. And as far as Eve goes I believe the voodoo did work, because from the very beginning of the movie, she had a dislike for her father and her intent was for him to be different, especially towards her, and the story that her sister told her was definitely fuel on a flame that was already burning within her. No I do think because she is a child. She doesn’t understand that death is permanent so as a child she just said oh I want him dead, but what she really meant was I want him to change
I remember this movie coming out when I was a kid, we had it on vhs lol. In my opinion, you can sum this movie up with one sentence. A child didn’t stay in her place and it cause a sh*t load of things to happen…🤷🏽♀️
Yes , thank you for saying that because the celebrity reading concept never sat right with me like it’s just weird to me to be that invested in a strangers life . I’ve just recently discovered your channel and I absolutely love it here 💕✨
I think the voodoo lady already saw the dads fate with the moms reading. She did the spell just for laughs. Which is why she said a man will fall on his own sword.
Wow! Didn't even think of this!
right, I was thinking that as well
Oh yes, wow that really went over my head.
She might have been the one to curse the family altogether now that I think of it
I agree. Don’t they usually do divination anyway?
I side-eye people that don’t side-eye the father. Him only dancing with one daughter in public. The fact that his daughter was tasked with making him “ feel good “. The inappropriate “maturity “ , if you understand the psychology of grooming and incest it’s cut and dry. There’s boundaries between parents that should be clearly defined. A hug and a “ go back to bed “ is the healthiest response. Also often perpetrators will blame the victim and say that the child came on to them. A child is a child’s regardless. It was incestuous at the very least emotionally but I believe also physically
Oh yeah that's how I and my ex-husband read that too. My ex is a former police officer and he said it was text book grooming
@@FifthElement-t2b Exactly! Living in home with my father, that particular scene frightened me. I love the movie now and understand more.
That settles it. I'm watching this again soon so I can have the adult perspective!
Yes especially if you're from there. Made so much sense so young. I can't explain it 😅
Exactly. I watched it at 14 years old. It’s most definitely on my rewatch list !!
I think her dad never danced with her because he knew she has visions.
One of my favourite movies! Side note, I’ve ALWAYS wanted a part 2. Jurnee and Megan have grown into amazing actors, and as a whole, that cast would SLAY…
Yes maybe like a family reunion sequel !
Yessssssssssss
But in today's climate do you think the part 2 could be as good as the first one? Because everything has to be so Politically Correct now.
I would love to see a sequel. Maybe they could go more into Eve’s gift of sight

Yes and he also had a way with distortion of the truth. He couldn't hide behind the mask anymore when Eve saw him with Mrs. Monroe AGAIN at the bar.
In some families, it is not unusual for children to serve the drinks, and no one is surprised if they sneak a sip...or two.
I feel Louis was a narcissist too ! The way he gaslit was out of this world
Back then they gave kids a little alcohol… Look at Italian and Irish movies… they do the same thing. Life was a bit more intense so during parties they did that… it was monitored and usually made them sleepy… Like ur grandma probably slipping you some cold medicine… Same thing 😅
🎯
❤
Just recently I found out Roz Batiste had a disable mute brother who lived with them on a wheelchair who witness every scene but they cut him out. And what's creepy, you do see him in the background seeing everything.
Facts!!!!!!! You ain’t lying!
He’s in the directors cut on dvd! I found out about it when I bought the dvds. I love this movie and pretty much anything about Louisiana and voodoo
@@divineempress8539me too! Louisiana to me it's so mysterious and curious and mystical/ magical with so much deep history. It draws me in somehow🌑🔥
I always thought he was sleeping with the child because she's trying to be her mom for him. That's weird to me. I think he cursed his sister when they were younger and when he died it released her from the curse.
🎯
I absolutely agree with this. This what I was thinking
This is a very good perspective
Excellent interpretation.Did the girl really get her period then or did more happen than? She was extremely upset by her first “menses”.
That’s right ! Because they didn’t show how Mozelle found out, so it had to be the vision that told her !
Mozelle found out when Cicely motioned to Eve to hush/stay quiet. Mozelle caught that.
Bingo! 🎯 He molested his daughter
Hmmmm, that’s a good point !
Agreed. Mozelle didn't want Eve to know what she saw

@@JaRealBrooks do you feel the reading was accurate
Your on to something .
Yea the daughter definitely had an Opehlia complace
@@wonderingmind8547 I think something interesting is looking at the movie as an adult vs a child, as a young person when ppl see girl who act like that, they sweep it under the rug, and say oh she fast or trynna be grown etc, when your an adult you think about how did said child get that way? their groomed/molested etc and thats why they came off like that, because they had their innocence taken from them & they lose that childlike essence
Buh I feel like unfortunately allot of ppl especially in urban cultures don’t recognize the signs & blame the child
I think they were both telling the truth. Cisely had a lot of confused feelings, and when the kiss happened, I think she was genuinely scared and didn't fully understand what was happening.
She understood that’s why she did it she was basically trying to give him what the mother wasn’t to keep him around and it didn’t work
You are a great storyteller! I’ve seen this movie hundreds of times and I can picture each scene as you describe.

Yes . Sounds kind of like me . Like a marina / marine curse .
Sicily had the skill of reframing memories, which is useful for blocking trauma. I think she was trying to do that for her sister.
I totally believe the father because Sicily already displayed her ability to twist an event, plus she wanted to wash away the truth into the bayou.
🎯
1st this is one of my favorite movies. It is the quotes for me straight gems! 💎💎💎💎💎
1. "To certain type of women, I am a hero. I need to be a hero". Louise Batiste
2. "Memory is a section of images, some elusive, others imprinted indelibly on the brain". Older Eve
3. In my day we were grateful for signs and warnings". Granny Batiste
The best lesson I took from this movie was to have a full understanding/ know exactly what you want and ask specifically how something will be done. Eve thinking it was going to be a doll and it was not. 👀👀
I believe that the father was ready to transition. He unconsciously involved Eve in creating his demise. This is why she was so privy to certain situations and why he made her feel the way he did. He was including her because he was confident that she could get the job done.
that's an interesting thought
Why would he be ready though?
Maybe the curse . That mozelle has . Was she his sister or the mother 's sister ?
@@taylorhagler5959Mozelle was Luis’ sister.
I think the voodoo lady and the Aunt knew each other. They both spoke each others name.
Eve was also called “pineapple thief “ this is a fruit of Yemaya. At the time of her aunt telling her about the water and the air while Eve was wearing a blue.
They did, it was about the aunt hiding and the lady was like u just like me witch lol I know who you are… She’s a black widow
I feel like the reader already saw what happened qhen she did the reading early on and when Eve came to her i think she just took her money and didn't do anything. As far as the dad and Cesiley think he probably had his way with her and tried to silence her by giving her things that's why she felt like this grown woman and did her hair and wore the lipstick, before that he was just telling her things or giving her kisses every now and then he had his own daughter fantasizing over him.
thats a gooooood point !!
But the curious thing is, Ciecly wore her hair and makeup in her mother's style. I thought she either wanted to replace her mom or the dad might have often commented on how alike she looked to her mother.

Eve’s Bayou is by far one of my favorite movies. There’s some many twist and turns and levels of interpretation.
❤
Treating Cisely like one of his girlfriends or in a way that made her think of herself that way is emotional incest, so I'd still call that abuse
@@idrisa7909 I agree, I was referring to sexual abuse.
Whew, when you said "taking your son out of school" that hit my spirit.. I'm so torn between homeschooling and traditional..
Same Mama!
Stick to home school! Until high school maybe. I wish I had of
Louis saying good night put his nail in the coffin. Mr. Monroe said not to speak to his wife again yet he decided to tell her good night anyway. Good night was his last words.
In the director's commentary it says there is a character cut out of movie...a disabled/mute uncle who sees interaction between Luis and Cisely. the removed him to leave it ambiguous
Hmmmmm they should have left that innnnnn!!!
Wooow

I believe the father only because Sisley has a past of destroying the truth. And yes I believe hid death broke the curse. I think the voodoo accelerated the events and came back full circle.
How did the circle began and how did he ended it?
I think the curse was lust and being tied to the house cuz remember it was given as a gift to the slave master's slave
This movie is a classic and you did a great job breaking it down. I felt like I was rewatching it 🫶🏽
I actually believed the dad. I didn’t find it weird that he favored her. I figured she was his first born child and although parents are supposed to love their children evenly he loved her the most. I feel she was embarrassed by what happened and chose to leave.
Yeah, like the mom favored the son, who was the youngest. And Eve was closest to her Aunt.
I'm my Father's 1st born and I've never had that kind of intimacy with my dad, that's creepy
We would like to believe there is no favoritism between kids but me being the middle I feel like the blacksheep
Omg I really want your take on Beloved that movie had us in a choke hold in our household
This is a good one‼️
That's the part I was waiting on. Eve had up a block maybe unconsciously so Aunt Mozelle wasn't able to see Eve, and that semi spooked her. She knew then that Eve was more powerful than she realized.
Eve bayou is one of my favorites.
Mines too ❤️❤️
I think Louis' reckless mouth was always gonna get him in trouble, the pieces were already coming together before Eve paid Elzara.
Do you think it was her who cursed her in the first place I always thought that maybe one of Mozelles lover’s was Elzara

How did his the death break the curse of mitzell?
I love how you tell stories and give your reviews and Eve bayou is one of my favorite spirituality movies i wish i had eve gift of sight 😞
I have watched this movies so many times and now i have to go back with the knowledge i gained from this review.
Remember when she told her mother she didn't know how to keep her man👀
@@carmencarothers4288 right
Girl, you hit the nail on the head.
Do you know why this situation occurs? Is it the parents fault of is the kid just F'd up?

I've never understood this movie so well! Thank you for providing so much context.
Would love to see you break down the movie Beloved!!!

I watch this movie all the time!!! Glad someone is showing a classic some love❤❤❤❤❤❤
