    I drop out off SHS at the age of 17 because of financial reasons. I had a filling station job i was paid 300gh but tips comes so the work was good. Something happened, i lost the job. Because of family issues. I was jobless and broke. I got a security job that pays 300gh, it too small so i looked for a cleaning work that pays 300gh, i do that in the morning to 5pm and i will move to my security work 6pm tell morning. I did that for 6 years. I am 27 now. I started my MOMO business 2 years now i make 5-7K after expenses . If i was paid 1k when i was doing the security job it would have changed a lot. 2k is even plenty if you have the right mindset.

    Let's say you work from 9am to 5pm that's 8 hours a day, Monday to Friday. let's assume you are paid 11.44gh an hour in Ghana, that is 8hrs x 5days =40 hrs a week , now take 40 hrs × 11.44 gh = 457.6 a week
    In a month you will earn 1,830.4gh a month , let's round up to 2000gh in a month. Now let's switch
    £11.44 an hour is the minimum wage in UK , £2000 is an average salary for any entry job , and it's enough to pay your rent, food , tax , transport and even a car,phone and other stuffs on contract and still save more like £500 in a month depending on how u spend. The same system applied in Ghana u won't get the result , 2k is more than enough for an entry job , but high inflation and cost of living has devalue 2k . Before u argue remember 1gh = 1$ in Ghana before, if we had worked hard to maintain it , this won't be our story.

    For context sake we need to deal with specifics. Your title should have been "Would you take 2000gh as a graduate living in Accra?"
    I was working in Accra way back after school in 2019 and was taking 700gh as a fresh employee who was employed right after uni in a real estate company. After a year, I moved to Kumasi and gained a job which was paying me about 1,200 in 2021 and now, I'm being paid 5k. In Kumasi, expenses are quite low as compared to Accra so context is really important here for the discussion.
    Nice discussion ❤

    • @controller8927
      @controller8927 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's not true, living in Accra shouldn't be yardstick to be poor or broke as compared to kumasi. You're talking as if you were living in the area of Kwame despite. The same prices are high or low both in Kumasi and Accra. Depending on where you live and.your expenses. You're paid 500 cedis but keep sending money to your girlfriend.

    • @thepixelambassador6980
      @thepixelambassador6980 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @controller8927 what are you driving at cus I was addressing the topic to be more specific not using Accra as any yardstick. Bear in mind, the cost and standard of living varies from place to place so generalizing a topic such as this wouldn't help.

  • @sbaidoo25
    @sbaidoo25 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    I agree with the guy in glasses. Experience is what pushes your worth up. In 2019, I was taking 1500ghs/m ... company shutdown after 6months. In 2020, I couldn't get a job... so I accepted a 500ghs monthly allowance job outside Accra. I had a masters at the time ooo. someone I had networked with previously helped me get free accommodation. I walked most times from work to my place after work (mainly because I was trying to lose weight) so I had very little transportation expenses. My money was mostly spent on food which was relatively cheap too because I mostly cooked my own food. I accepted that job with the mindset to only gain experience. After working there for 5 months, I got a remote job which was looking for someone with my specific degrees and job experience combos emphasizing more on the 500ghs job experience. The salary was a significant upgrade. I thank God everyday that I didn't refuse that low allowance job.

    Why not??? I can tell you that those against still have the best Samsung and IPhones that Kojo, when you went abroad don’t have. Kojo, the problem is most of us want to catapult to the top in a flash. I understand the location of the job is importance BUT what we have not been trained is not just go there to work but what can you gain intellectually from that place within a short term to build up something for yourself? If one breaks even after graduation, one should focus on knowledge acquirement and plans to move on after. Some of these young ones after graduation still want to go to restaurants during lunch. Get a lunch bag, make your own sandwich and with a drink have lunch at work. Live within your means and acquire additional knowledge while making minimum wage. This is done in most advance countries.

    How is it possible that in 2024, people in Ghana are still being paid as low as £100 a month? This is a complete failure of leadership! Personally, I will take 2k if I'm offered a job after graduation.
    I believe that the bigger salary that you think you deserve needs experience so how do you get that experience if you don't take the job?
    The thing is in as much as we think we deserve better salaries, you should manage the small amount while working on getting that dream salary.
    Our main motive of working shouldn't be only the money involved.
    Moreover most companies will increase your salary if the notice the value you bring to the table.
    That time you can then claim your worth if they no that what you bring to the table can not be attained from anywhere.
    Just put in the work.

    I just love as "...as a graduate" has been added to the caption cuz if I graduate (entry level) rn and I'm being offered Gh¢2000 monthly... I'll gladly take it and use it to gain experience cuz to get a big firm and subsequently a bigger pay, most employees would require you to have like 4+ years experience.
    As a graduate, I'd still be staying with my parents so 2k would be cool for me.....work for like 3 years to gain experience, upgrade myself in those period by taking professional courses, online courses etc to increase my value.
    Employers won't pay you much for just having a degree , they pay you for what you can offer.
    Money is everything but money is not everything!
