i loved to draw and paint as a kid, but lost my passion for it when i went to art school. art therapy has brought me back to painting. i am drawing much more freely and using art for my wellbeing now. i love your videos!!!
O, my dear! I discovered your videos a couple of weeks ago and can't thank you enough for sharing your art and practice. ❤ A few years ago, I fell ill with pneumococcal meningitis and came quite close to "leaving this earthly plain"😮. In the years since, I lost my passion for painting and really struggled through self-examination and processing my art journey. You have lit the little fire inside my creative heart and I have begun painting again! You, your videos and your art are truly inspiring❤from 🇨🇦
Orla, this has to be one of my favorite videos! It was so helpful to see the process of the different styles and then to view all the underpaintings next to each other. On a side note, I really love your infectious spirit when you talk about your abstract style. Keep doing what you are doing because there are artists, newbies or seasoned, that appreciate your time and knowledge. Much love from the US.
14:18 thank you so much Orla for answering my question. I feel like it really cleared things up for me, especially as an artist who is trying to figure out herself through art❤ Made my day! As a person, i saw myself gravitate towards flowers a lot, i mean even my dresses have flowers, so one day it just clicked and i started incorporating more florals in my artwork!
Aw no worries at all, it's such a good one! ☀️ And yessss that's beautiful! I think the more we bring what we love to our art, the more us it will feel :)
I have only just seen this video and although it’s 2 months old I just wanted to say what a superb video share this was for me. Your passion and excitement really shone through which is always beautiful to see in others and that paired with your process and reflections produced a very inspiring creative video 🙌🏼
Was feeling the old non creative doldrums today and your vid got me running for my supplies. Thank you my beautiful! Those shells on the beach.. the colours and shapes were sublime 💗
Thank you so much for these videos. You are a huge inspiration Orla. I am just discovering myself and can't believe what is coming out. You give me courage to keep going when that voice in the back tries to shut me down. I am thrilled about your upcoming workshop.
After you initially showed all the paintings, just as you were putting them up on the wall, I was thinking that I like the realistic one, but I absolutely LOVE the one on the far right that is very abstract. So I'm glad to hear that you were very excited by that one too! Really good video and I learned a lot too! Thank you!
So good! I'll be watching this one again for sure lol. You inspire, as always...and make art feel more accessible. I always learn something. :) Thank you, Orla!
Thank you for another really inspiring video! Not surprising that you're thinking of branching out into textiles: one of the things I love about your paintings is the textures. That chopped-off brush is amazing!
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful work and your process. I was really looking forward for Saturday but I have already scheduled and urgent dentist appointment, so sorry but I can't be in your zoom session. Thank you so much for the opportunity and maybe next time. All my best
Thanks Holly :) I use all sorts, in this video it's 250gsm cartridge paper. Framing wise I always like to keep it simple! I posted some photos of these framed on my insta if you'd like to see examples 💫
I love your art, your process and your energy! Thank you so much for sharing. Someday I will figure out Patreon and follow you there as well. I have a strange question. Your smock/apron is very cool. I would like to make one like it. Any chance you would share where the seams are or a pattern? Thanks!
thanks so much! haha no problem; there are only 4 seams, shoulders and sides. I've seen patterns by searching 'cross back apron' but also had this DIY hack saved if you like freestyling; theeverydayfarmhouse.com/cross-back-apron-pattern/
This is so helpful, thank you for sharing your process. What kind of pastels are you using? Can I use oil pastels with acrylic paint? Asking because that's what I have!
Thank you! I’m using neopastel 2’s here - but if you’re wondering about combining mediums, always try it out and see what happens! It works if you like it 😊 personally, I love acrylics and pastels together 💫
Your art is fantastic! I love seeing how you bring your ideas to life. I'm on a similar journey, sharing my own techniques and creative process on my channel. It’d be awesome if you stopped by sometime-always great to connect with other artists!

So happy to hear you've found your way back to it - it's one of my ways to look after myself too 😊

I really enjoyed watching your progression in these. I’m wondering what kind of paper you use and how you would frame them. Thanks.
Thanks Holly :) I use all sorts, in this video it's 250gsm cartridge paper. Framing wise I always like to keep it simple! I posted some photos of these framed on my insta if you'd like to see examples 💫

i bet you would like the work of Ivon Hitchens.
do you keep all the paintings that you do? / what do you do with them?
I tend to sell the originals on paper through my website, and larger pieces through galleries, and keep the research pieces 😊
