Being blamed for all the world's mishaps is one of the biggest downsides of having 500 million to 1 trillion dollars. Scratch that - that's the only downside, although I doubt anyone from the Rothschild family cares all that much what Ivan from Nish, Serbia, thinks of them. The wealthiest family in the world that generated hundreds if not thousands of conspiracy theories since as early as the 18th century has a much better way to spend their time - namely to make expensive purchases that will make them even wealthier over time. Today, we will take a look precisely at the Rothschilds' most profitable investments over the years.

Lord Rothschild is a highly cultured, aristocratic, very old man. Mr Burns is nothing like that. He is modeled on people like Elon Musk, vulgar tycoons who care only about money and their ego.
In the Investopedia List of the 10 richest families, the Rothschilds do not appear. Lord Rothschild is thought to be worth about $1 billion. Other members of the family are also very rich, but they are not among the richest people in the world.
I don't know who Mr. Simpson is modeled on, if indeed he is modeled n anyone. But he is not modeled on the 4th Baron Rothschild.

It’s not a coincidence that it seems like every single thing they put their hands on turns into billions and billions of dollars.

    • @leezaslofsky4438
      @leezaslofsky4438 ปีที่แล้ว

Really? What do they "put their hands on", according to you? Do you know of even one example of something they have "put their hand to"? No you don't. In fact, the Rothschilds, like other investors, sometimes lose money on their investments. Over time, they have had a net profit on their investments, which is why they are rich today. The same is true of the Rockefellers, the DuPonts, and many other very wealthy families.
These families' wealth is a result of capitalism, which has a strong tendency to concentrate wealth in fewer and fewer hands. By careful investing and clever tax evasion, rich people manage to hold on to, and increase, their wealth.
Many rich people deposit their money in offshore accounts, where they pay little or no tax. Many set up trust funds and other ways to avoid inheritance tax. They also lobby for lower taxes -- they had a big win with Trump's huge tax cut for the rich.
If you are opposed to this concentration of wealth among a small number of rich people, you might want to learn about socialism, which says that the wealth produced by the workers should remain with the workers.

They also have failures, for sure, but people see only their wealth. Truth be told i think that all the guys who became great money makers for this family, worked very hard to study and to become people of great value. Some people hate them, but it is even hard to count how many people they employ, so in the end, rich people who invest their money, are a good thing for the world (most of them)

This is where stupid people start start saying it's because they're Jewish, and smart people realize it's because they already have the capital to outcompete and survive any downturn. When you give ultra wealth-savvy people billions of dollars to start with, they make billions of dollars

    • @leezaslofsky4438
      @leezaslofsky4438 ปีที่แล้ว

@@J_C95 Meyer Rothschild did not "start with" billions of dollars.
Back then in the 18th century in Frankfurt, a Free City within the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation, Rothschild lived in the Jewish ghetto, which was locked each night.
Because it was considered sinful for a Christian to lend money at interest (usury). that sinful occupation was left to the Jews. Most other occupations were closed to them. Meyer Rothschild was in that business, as a pawnbroker.
He and his wife had five sons, a blessing for any family in those days. Like other fathers in those days, he raised them so they would be able to carry on his business when he retired or died.
Meyer has a brilliant idea: he would send his sons to foreign cities and have them set up branches of his business there. Because they were his sons, they would cooperate with each other, keep each other informed of what was going on in their neck of the woods, and use that cooperation as a basis for making a lot of money.
His sons set up branches in London, Paris, Vienna, and Naples. A big part of their business was raising money for the local rulers, who were always borrowing money to pay for their armies and their palaces.
The money was raised by selling bonds: the king would promise to pay back the money plus interest. The Rothschilds would make money by "discounting", that is, they would get the bonds at a lower price than the face value, and sell them at face value to investors.
Selling bonds was not easy. Many people rightly feared that the bonds would not be repaid, and they would lose the money they spent to buy them. They looked for "discounters" whom they could trust. "Will this bond pay in full plus interest?" was their question.
The Rothschilds developed a reputation for absolute honesty and trustworthiness. Their word was their bond, no written contract needed. If they said the bond was good, it was -- and if it wasn't, the Rothschilds would pay the difference.
Investors came to rely on the Rothschilds, and they became indispensable to kings who needed to borrow money. Kings would ask their advice -- if I issue bonds now, will they sell? If they don't sell, I guess I can't go to war. The Rothschilds' advice would be completely reliable. They even stopped France from going to war with Spain in the 1830s by advising that the French king would not be able to finance his war, since no one would buy French bonds.
The Rothschilds were told that if they converted to Christianity, they would likely do even better, as some people didn't want to deal with Jews. They refused. Instead, the worked to change the laws that barred Jews from participating fully in English society. (For example, to attend a university you had to be a member of the Church of England -- no Catholics or Jews allowed).
As the Rothschild formula of excellent cooperation across international boundaries, honesty, and business savvy worked to bring in large profits, the Rothschilds invested in the rapidly growing industries of Britain and other countries, and their wealth increased as these
      enterprises prospered.
By the 1840s they were widely known as the richest family in Europe, with wealth on a level with the wealth of kings. They gave a lot of money to charity, especially to helping the poverty stricken Jews of Eastern Europe, building synagogue and hospitals, etc.
The discounting business went out of style as national governments began selling bonds directly to the public, without using bankers like the Rothschilds (as they do to this day). But by that time the Rothschilds had investments in many industries, and their wealth kept growing.
The fame of the Rothschilds had an ugly side to it: many people were shocked that in Christian Europe, a family of Jews was richer than anyone else. They thought it was a scandal, maybe even the work of Satan. Jews had been forced to live in ghettos for centuries. The French Revolution had swept many of those old laws away, and the Jews were "emancipated" and allowed to participate in mainstream society. To many Christians, this was sinful, disgraceful.
The Rothschilds took a lot of the heat from such people. They were the most prominent Jews in the world, the richest family in the world. For this they were admired by many, and hated by many others. Their name became proverbial "as rich as Rothschild".
Since the middle of the 19th century, the Rothschilds have continued their banking business under the original name "M.N. Rothschild & Sons" They have a website. Much of their business involves privatization or government companies, which has been a major trend over the past few decades.
They have also used their wealth to collect art, build palatial homes, finance scientific expeditions (the Oceanic Museum in Monte Carlo was founded by the Rothschilds), and many other ventures.
Nowadays the Rothschilds are no longer the richest family in the world -- not even in the top ten. But, like the Rockefellers, the DuPonts, the Mars family (Mars bars), the Cargills, and the Koch Brothers, they remain extremely rich, even if the founders of their wealth are long gone.
That is how capitalism works. As a socialist, I believe that no one should have such great wealth, especially when so many are in dire poverty. I think we shold have heavy wealth taxes that will take away their bulk of that wealth and use it for the benefit of the people.
But we don't live in a socialist society. We live in a capitalist one. And capitalism makes a few people very, very rich, and many very, very poor. The Rothschilds area famous example of success in a capitalist society. So are Elon Musk and Bill Gates. Warren Buffett and Jeff Bozos.

    • @leezaslofsky4438

Really? The fastest growing country in the world is China. Do the Rothschilds control China? How about India, Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, etc? Do the Rothschilds pick up the phone and tell Xi Jinping what to do today? Do they tell Biden what to do?
The Rothschilds are very rich. Wealth is a form of power, just as military force is a form of power. The Rothschilds have lots of money, true. But they have no military power at all. They don't control any governments, though they have some influence on some governments.
The ancient myth about the unlimited power of the Rothschild family has never been true, and nowadays it is less true than it was in the 19th century, when the myth of their power originated.
But some people really, really want to believe that thee is some evil power "behind" what goes on in the world, and some of these people pick on the Rothschilds because of their long history of being very wealthy. There is also a huge element of anti Semitism in this kind of attack on the Rothschilds, as shown by Nazi propaganda and other anti Semitic outpourings.
Capitalism doesn't care who gets to join the Billionaires Club. It rewards people as different as Warren Buffett, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, the Walton family, and, yes, the Trump family. it is an economic system that works to concentrate wealth in fewer and fewer hands, but it doesn't care whose hands they are -- an Arabian king, a Chinese entrepreneur, a con artist, a lottery winner, the heir to a big fortune dating back centuries, a preacher of the "prosperity gospel", the inventor of a better mousetrap.
Instead of parroting Nazi propaganda and laming one family for all the evil in the world, it would be better to look at the system that dictates concentration of wealth in a few hands, and the resulting poverty of millions of people.

The Rothchilds do not own any governments. Rich people have always been influential. The way to gain equality for all is not to become anti Semitic and to single out Jews like the Rothschilds for hatred. It is to build a new economic system that produces equality and fairness for all.

Ahem... #1 Glencore - the company total market cap is $62 Billion - BUT Nat Rothschild 'only' bought $50 million worth of Glencore convertible bonds, which ended up being a roughly $100 million stake in Glencore shares. So, they don't "own" Glencore, but own less than 0.2% of Glencore.
It's a bit like saying my assets include the National Australia Bank (worth $97 Billion) just because I own $1,000 worth of NAB shares!
ps. the $100 million boat is a big ticket purchase, but I doubt it produces any income of capital appreciation - most boats depreciate and aren't worth much more than scrap value after a few decades. So having it on a list of assets that are growing the Rothschild's wealth is very dubious.
pps. The Rothschild story is a great example of the value of investing for long periods of time (in this case several centuries) and diversification. One of the smartest moves they made was to diversify across many businesses, countries and continents. So when they lost everything in one country due to war etc., they still had a substantial part of the family wealth held elsewhere.

The Rothschilds did not fund "both sides in a war". In fact, they played a major role in preventing a war between Prussia and France in 1830 by advising the King of Prussia that they did not believe they could sell his bonds to fund the war.
Which war are you referring to? In World War I the London Rothschilds helped the British raise funds by buying War Bonds. They helped mobilize funds from other Jewish owned banks as well.
The Paris, Frankfurt, Vienna and Naples Rothschilds helped to fund the war efforts of the countries where they were located. This mean that they helped fund the Central Powers as well as the Allies. Is it your opinion that all the branches should have funded one side, regardless of their location? If they did that, some of their branches would have been shut down. Are you saying that the German Rothschilds should have let their branch be shut down rather than help fund the German war effort?
In WWII the Rothschilds naturally did not fund Nazi Germany, because as Jews, they were condemned to death by the Nazis. The Nazis had already shut down their branches in Frankfurt and Vienna before the war, as they shut down all Jewish owned banks and businesses and forced them to sell their assets at knock down prices to "Aryans".
So in WWII all the Rothschilds' help went to the Allies.
Do you say that the Rothschilds both sides in the Korean War? The Vietnam War? The Iraq War? The Afghanistan War?
Why are you still raising the issue of WWI after over 100 years? Because you are deeply concerned about how that war was funded? Or because you think it's a a clever way to throw mud at the Rothschilds, whom you hate for the same reason Hitler did.
The Rothschilds never "took over a country's currency". How would they do that? That idiotic statement shows that you are taking your ideas from lying anti Semitic conspiracy websites -- Nazi websites. And that shows that you are probably a Nazi yourself. You have no right to spread your filthy lies on TH-cam.

The Rothschild family comes from Frankfurt, at the time a Free City within the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. Frankfurt is located not in Austria, but in central Germany.
Jews didn't have family names. They were known as the "son of ---" or the "daughter or wife of ---". But as time went on, countries began to require everyone to take a family name, for administrative reasons. Many people took names related to their occupations; others took names derived from where they lived, others took names from nature, like trees or crops or rivers.
The French Revolution emancipated Jews from the many restrictions and special taxes and fees they had been forced to deal with for many centuries. The French conquered much of Europe (the Low Countries, much of Germany and Austria, most of Italy, Spain, Poland etc) in the years following the Revolution, and applied their laws in those countries, including emancipation of Jews.
Liberty Equality, Fraternity was and is the slogan of the French Republic. That included all humans, including Jews and other oppressed people. In Britain, Jews had to wait until 1830 for emancipation. In much of eastern Europe, Jews had to wait until the Communist regimes took over.
These facts turned many Christians against the French Revolution and against Communism -- they hated these because they were beneficial to the Jews. And that explains much of modern anti Semitism: the revolt of some Christians against the freedom for Jews.

@@paulwallis7586 The Rothschild Bank set up branches in Vienna, Naples, Paris and London in addition to their original branch in Frankfurt.
Luckily Meyer Rothschild had enough sons to send to these financial centres of the time.
One innovation of the Rothschilds was their courier service, which was probably the fastest in Europe at the time. Thus they were able to get information faster than other people, and use it to guide their banking operations.
In the period when the Rothschilds got established and became very rich, governments did not sell their own bonds. Instead, they arranged a deal with a major banker, who then sold them on the money markets, after taking a fee ff the top.
The Rothschilds were well placed to do this work, with their branch offices and their accurate, timely information on the policies of Europe's rulers.
So if a king was planning to go to war, he would have to borrow a lot of money to pay the troops, buy supplies, etc. He would do this by making a deal with a bank, which agreed to sell a certain quantity of bonds. To do this, they had to have intimate, up to date knowledge of the money market.
On occasion, the Rothschilds would tell a king that they were not optimistic that they could sell his bonds. The king would then have to decide if he still wanted to go to war, with far less money than he had hoped to get. Usually the king would back off, as happened in 1830 when the King of Prussia was dissuaded from going to war with France because the Rothschilds told him they wouldn't be able to sell his bonds in the existing market conditions.
The Rothschilds had a rock solid reputation for keeping their word, even if it was merely a verbal agreement sealed with a handshake. They were known to be extremely well informed about political and financial matters, since they had direct contact with the main political players in Europe.
Thus, by maintaining good relations among the brothers, by making sure they were well informed, by maintaining an unimpeachable reputation for keeping their word, and by maintaining branches in the main capitals of Europe, the Rothschilds were able to become the richest family in the world in the first half of the 19th century.
Since then they have compounded their wealth by maintaining good relations in the family, by being ready to change their focus of operations as the economy changed (governments stopped using banks to sell their bonds before WWI, and began selling them directly to the public).
The current board of the M.A. Rothschild & Sons Ltd, the main family firm, does NOT have a single Rothschild on it. The family members have other interests besides making money -- for example they funded many expeditions to places like New Guinea; there is the Oceanic Museum in Monaco which displays the many specimens collected on such expeditions; the Rothschilds have been art collectors for many decades, and they display much of this priceless art to the public; one Rothschild devotes his time to environmental issues; another is a professional photographer.
The Hitler regime shut down the Frankfurt, Vienna and Paris branches of the Rothschild Bank as part of their persecution of the Jews. They narrowly missed arresting the Paris Rothschild, whom they would certainly have sent to the gas chamber., along with his family.
The Rothschilds remain very rich, but they have been surpassed by others, like Jeff Bozos and Bill Gates, Elon Musk and other billionaires. They do not run the world; they do not own Israel, they do not tell governments what to do, despite the myths that have grown up around them dating back to the 1840s, when they were the richest family on earth and many people were scandalized that a family of Jews should have achieved such a prominent position.
The Nazis made a movie about the Rothschilds, aiming to show them as cheaters and swindlers to match their propaganda against Jews. The movie was a flop.

They've got plenty of props for a Bond villain. I wonder if the Brocelli group can rent one of their manor houses for one of their films. The yacht alone would be perfect for Stromberg. As for the $700.00 wine, It would be extravagant to drink, but it would spoil if I kept it as an investment. I can barely get by, never mind buying a wine cave for the Mouton wine. I could keep the wine in the attic, but it would soon turn bitter. That would make for very expensive salad dressing. Anyhow Rothschild is pronounced like rot-shield with some Germanic nuances to the vowels. The D sound is almost like the letter T.

The immense greed of a few super rich people on this earth has left hundreds of millions of people destitute. There is no honor in such wealth. Nor are they to be admired. While they frolic in their obscene wealth millions of others wallow in abject poverty. The chasm between these people and the millions who have absolutely nothing is a gross injustice.
It’s a myth perpetuated by the super rich that it is your own fault if you are poor. It is not! People who are born to wealth have a multitude of options in life that people born to poverty do not have. Better food, better housing, safer surroundings, better schools etc etc. all this is guaranteed for the offspring of the super rich.
Earning money through hard work and thus becoming wealthy is not a problem. But it becomes a problem when your wealth is so massive that it hurts others. The super wealthy did not build their fortunes on their own. They were built on the labor and the backs of their employees who more often than not were paid a pittance for their efforts. Amazon is notorious for paying people as little as possible, making it impossible for them to have a living wage, yet Jeff Bezos is now one of the wealthiest people on the planet and he is not the only one.
Bill Gates has understood these problems about insane wealth and he has been busy giving back a lot of his wealth to humanity in general.
Our purpose in life is to serve humanity, not gather riches which we won’t be able to take with us when we die. The universe abhors imbalance and injustice and a time will come when these super rich will lose everything they possess.
