Thank you for this this is my first season breeding I am 19 years old and for my collection I invited in a lot of recessive gene. I love your videos and I’m excited for this series.
Right now I am just a guy with 3 snakes, but I've just got my first rack and incubator and I can't wait to get goin! Thanks for the videos man really helpful stuff 👊
Hey guys, wanted to let you know that I heard about this video from someone on the morphmarket.com community forums. I'm not a ball python guy; I mostly keep colubrids and a few boas, but I sat here and watched your videos for about 90 minutes. I'm not new to keeping by any means, but I have struggle with some of the business aspects, and I wanted to thank you for taking the time to post this series. I actually got away from breeding for a couple of years and now I"m about to start having more babies available so I'm in the process of setting up a website and trying to be more active on youtube, fb, insta, etc.. I love what you're doing keep it up. The patreon was a genius idea and I'm glad it's helping you to further your passion.
I'm envious of successful breeders/ business owners. It shows they have a goal and nothing could stop them from achieving it. It's seeing and learning from others that is the inspiration for me to not give up on my dreams. Keep doing what ya do and make those pennies rain lol 😆 💜. Love you guys keep up the A+ work.
We've been breeding for a few seasons now and we are really trying to make this at least one of our's full time job...down the road. We still have full time day jobs. It's a lot of work. I appreciate you taking the time out to make a video like this. Some TH-camrs and breeders make it seem like it's very lucrative. And it can be nice to finally sell that one for a good amount of money. But that is not daily. Thanks so much for making this video. Even with all the hard work, it's worth it. Animals are amazing. :)
You might not see this but I love your channel and I was in Manhattan reptile world last week. I liked the zoo a lot and for the price was well worth it. Loved seeing all the rattlesnakes and speedy
Ive been discussing this with my boss at my daily job and few breeders im purchasing from collecting higher end ball pythons a snake at a time i also started breeding my snakes food cutting huge costs and i know what my snakes are eating at all times an fresh im way excited to watch this series this been on my mind constantly i started in mind set to grow this into a third income to eventually help and something of my own plus i luv this community and industry i see opportunity be apart of it learn an eventually become successful i watch daily vlogs of many top guys you an kurt included just to sponge up the free knowledge an to avoid mistakes as much as possible cant wait great video!!!
I wont be breeding for another year or two but this is all info that is really good to have now before I have any clutches. So glad to get extra alerts on this stuff by joining your patreon too so I don't miss any videos.
What's up brother great content it helping alot as my bestfriend and I are just getting into the hobby. We greatly enjoy the bluntness of your content at times lol. So from a fellow mid westner keep up the good work
Great topic, looking forward for this series :) Its my dream to have my own breeding business some years in the future. Im still a student and didnt have the room, neither the money to start off yet. As soon as i moved out of my parents house i got me my first ever pet snake, soon followed by a second one. Always wanted to work with animals and turn that into my job. Just inhaled all the knowledge about the species and the genetic aspects and now simply plan ahead which morphs i like the best and which projects i want to turn into reality. Thank you for intruducing us new enthusiasts into this awesome hobby and provide us with great content to be succesful, too :D really appreciate that
As a person who is getting started in the snake business (Boas) though and then a few years down the road hopefully start a hognose project up. This series definitely has my attention!
Thank you so much for making this amazing series. Totally enjoy this video and have moved all of the other ones in your business series to its own playlist on my channel. Don’t worry my videos are Private I’m not trying to steal your content. I can’t wait to work my way through them all. It’s better than a Netflix binge😂. I would love to talk to you more at sometime although I recognise that you must be a busy guy. I have a specific situation and would love to start up a reptile business I don’t wanna be a millionaire like Brian, but it would be nice to get to the stage where I can get enough income just to get by. Take care I’m away to start the rest of the videos now👍👍
Honestly, if you like them that much you should check out our patreon. Double the videos, access to ask us directly anything, awesome discord community to help, and buy and sell in.
That’s exactly how it started for me. I got my first ball python because I wanted to get over my fear of snakes. Now I have 11 balls and a boa and adding a second boa here soon. I had my first ovulation recently and will get either slugs or a few good eggs from my girl! Thanks for keeping it real with everyone
Awesome video I know I just started this year. I was going to do a video on that subject. Of the different ways you can start up. I can't wait to watch your videos. Keep up the good work Haters will be everywhere that is life. Like you said just ignore them. They're not important. Can't wait to see your series.
Great video. Love the business information. I keep oddball reptiles and am looking into balls. partially because they are easier to breathe than some of the reptiles I work with and there are some gorgeous morphs
Great stuff, you’ve been my go to for the past few days. Trying to get a little thing going for my girlfriend and I “for the money definitely” as well as the hobby and it sounds like you know what’s up🤘🏼
thank you for making this man i cant wait to see the rest of this series and can you do a video on finding mentors for venomous keeping? as well as where to find the laws of said keeping in your state
Love the new series man! I'm coming up on my first season in the fall. Several of my 12 females will be ready and some are close and might need to wait. I've been thinking about these upcoming topics a lot over the last year so I'm excited to hear your advice.
Subscribed. I am very interested in this series as I am a hobbyist who is looking to breed BPs on the side. Currently have about 17 animals half male and females. I just received my second TGR rack as well. I will be doing this all out of a spare bedroom in my condo😩
you say plan, and here i am, planning for 7-8 years in the future to be breeding boas and potentially pythons. maybe a bit overkill to plan this far ahead but ehhhh hopefully it works lmao
will follow this series this is what i like to watch when it comes to ball python as i was thinking of doing this, aiming for a certain morph combination really need to sell other hatchlings that i think will not help me to the morph i want. tho still dont have a ball python XD still watching vids from youtube to learn more and avoid common mistakes.
Man that carpet python is gorgeous! Thanks for the info, looking for supplemental retirement income but nothing crazy. I already breed Panther Chameleons, fairly successfully so transitioning to snakes should be similar. Also previous experience running a business, although in construction, the basic principles and customer service are the same. My weakness is time and patience for social media. I would actually rather clean rat tubs than do computer work, lol.
Awesome content Matt!! Can you go over how to rent a facility for your snake breeding business? Seems like there are a lot of roadblocks and restrictions on places that allow this. Keep up the great videos!
I haven't watched the whole video yet but I'm questioning something..... I know of a snake breeder who isn't registered with a town, but claims his business as an LLC. He sells quite a bit. Isn't this illegal?
I am interested in the going legit portion. A lot of people in my area are keeping things under the table. Makes me worried. I'm glad I have only been keeping a few years and haven't produced yet.
Same I know a person who snake breeds and rat breeds and he's not registered even though there's an LLC at the end of his name I know for a fact he's not registered because I went to the town to find out. And the people involved I can honestly tell you nothing's going to happen. I bet someone's going to get paid off to keep their mouths shut. Pisses me off.
Did you end up breeding that beautiful Jungle Jag your first snake?? I know a while back you where going to. Where on this planet can you find one just like him or pretty close??!!! Great show again. Let me know.
I have a question: I have a different popular breed of snake and I have a decent male and a pretty decent female and one female that is just normal. These are all young and the question I want to pose to you is, my next acquisition should be a better male or an exceptional female? I am assuming that you will say definitely a female. Thank you and all who have input. Your opinion is valued and your videos are definitely the best.
What is my first snake was a lavender albino retoc I got 2 years ago Im new to breeding I do have 19 retics now 11 burms 14 boas and 33ball pythons and I’m 13 years old I don’t know what to think about my best friend is also my Asian water moniter
Very excited to see where this series goes! Currently in Iraq on a deployment, but I really want to get back into the ball python market when I get home! My question is, how many hours are you putting in every day? I will be working, and going to college. I want to make sure Its manageable. Thank you so much!
Can you do a video on the Hoffman Gene ball python and what it can do to other genes and what it can produce does it have any deformation indigene if you cross two of them together? Cuz the Hoffman ball python Gene with a Calico look beautiful it really intensifies the color for sure

Thanks for doing these videos. I have 3 balls myself, looking for a 4th. Got into them about a year ago with the plans to start breeding and such. I’ve been eating up a pretty much any business content I can find around reptiles ever since!
if you been doing this for a good 6 years like i have i did made a decent amount of money at the point it helped me pay off my student loans BUT the other half pretty much want right back to the care of my snakes and rats. You need to be really smart on how to sell of course you need to know how to talk to people with respect it will go long way and you must have a PASSION.
I agree, but is it your only job? Likely not. Are you getting rich from it? Also likely not. Money is certainly there. Millions a year is very unlikely. It is not a get rich quick scheme. After 6 years (depending on how you started) it can easily supply a nice supplemental income. Absolutely not saying there is no financial reward here. Just saying the idea of I am going to start breeding, then make $200k to 500k profit a year, and then eventually more from a room in my house as it seems many try to push is not usually viable.
Also....as far as sales go, we will cover that. Passion and respect are certainly a point. I don't think most who fail lack passion. I also don't think all who find success have it. It helps, and for long term is needed as the amount of work far outweighs the gains. That is where passion cones in. I have zero passion for digging ditches. Pay me enough, I will dig em though. I need passion for this, as I have enough of a skill set to make WAY more money than at this. But would rather make less money a d enjoy what I do, then a shit load more but be empty.
@@OlympusReptiles I agree! You put in a lot of work then you would make money the hours you put in each week cleaning up after the snakes and also the rats it's a lot of work! sometimes i tell myself is this worth it.. to me Yes cause I enjoy the hell out of it BUT like you had mentioned there's a few people out there that don't planned ahead thinking that they can get rich doing this far from it! you will put in more work then you would make Money and if your not up for that you won't go to far.
I know ball pythons are your main thing but will you do vids talking bout other species for this series. Like good investment genes or species to get into.
Hey I know you have a serious love for the spider gene, could you look at my photo and tell me what morph I have. The breeder said she’s a pewter bee but she looks different to pictures I’ve seen of them. I would like to know so I can plan what to breed her too when she’s up too size. Great video by the way.
Olympus Reptiles thanks for your reply I’ll get a video when im back home and put a link if you could check it out it will be in a few days as im working away
what point did you start(if you did, power to you if you didn't) reporting it on your taxes? Does Morph market report your account to the IRS? asking for a friend......
I watch a your videos. Love your content. PLEASE talk louder! I'm killing myself to hear what you say way to often. And I don't want to miss a thing. Please?
Flipping is buying then selling right away. No idea on animal history, health, etc etc. Usually, it isn't represented that way either. So a seller will say yes it is healthy, eating this, etc with no first hand knowledge. I have personally seen someone buy a group of snakes at a show, then have them on their table for sale same day.
i have a hard time trusting any breeders because either there are babies that are expensive or adults that are half dead to be honest so if any one has suggestions please tell me
Please don't break the law because that creates another news story. "Over 50 guns, drugs and hundreds of snakes removed from home after cps visit.." doesn't shed good light to the general public. Side note: keeping my snakes in racks has been a great way to look really into organization in the eyes of others.
It is super easy to set up an LLC or something similar. Law should be followed as long as it is reasonable, however when it isn't I will follow the teaching of Thomas Jefferson.
Thank you for this this is my first season breeding I am 19 years old and for my collection I invited in a lot of recessive gene. I love your videos and I’m excited for this series.
Mine too! And me too 😁 I'm breeding King snakes not Ball pythons but even so this really helps to put things into perspective

I have one BP at the moment but looking at more. Mins is a female pinstripe breeding weight but holding off till I have incubator and hatchling rack.

I watch a your videos. Love your content. PLEASE talk louder! I'm killing myself to hear what you say way to often. And I don't want to miss a thing. Please?
The Mike is right by my mouth
I hear everything fine, might want to check out stuff on your end.
i don't want to get rich, i just want to be self sufficient.
Flipping?
Flipping is buying then selling right away. No idea on animal history, health, etc etc. Usually, it isn't represented that way either. So a seller will say yes it is healthy, eating this, etc with no first hand knowledge. I have personally seen someone buy a group of snakes at a show, then have them on their table for sale same day.
Do you pay taxes for your business?
Absolutely
But let's say somebody has an unregistered business would they pay taxes then?
i have a hard time trusting any breeders because either there are babies that are expensive or adults that are half dead to be honest so if any one has suggestions please tell me
Well, all snakes (except wild caught) come from a breeder.
Do you need a business license to breed and sell reptiles?
Not if you make it look like a hobby
Depends on where you live
@@OlympusReptiles I live in New Mexico in a small town called Truth or Consequences New.

I have ADHD too, haha
Mine isn't diagnosed, but it can be fairly obvious.
You own 1, 2 or 18 snakes... There is no in between... Lmao!
You have been my mentor from the beginning! We have sold out of our first year dooing this! dehartreotiledesign.com thanks you!
