I saw these commercials in Toronto ( we used to be able to pick up the Rochester stations) and like this one I remember that all of their commercials in the 1970's and maybe early 80's use to end with a phrase " we have all the Beach Boys albums." Nice to find this one with the Beach Boys actually playing in the background and ending with that phrase that I remember. Very cool to see and hear again !
Been a customer there for over 30 yrs. I remember my grandparents always saying that their ads were fun but I honestly never saw a single one whenever I visited! Still love the place tho, I was there last week & found the perfect Black Sabbath tshirt.
I was there about 5 yrs ago myself and found the perfect Sabbath shirt too! The one from their 1978 Never Say Die tour. Wore it to an Ozzy show a few weeks later -- the one & only time I've seen him live.
I am from Toronto. We saw Buffalo and Niagara Falls on our TV's but I don't think we got any Rochester TV where "The HOG" was. Also, I don't think Toronto was considered a "small Canadian town" even then.
@@IantaylorCanuck Ach zo! We occasionally got HoG ads in the Buffalo area but I saw them mostly when I'd visit my grandparents in the Rochester area. Went to the actual place almost every time I went to see them, still do now that most of my immediate family lives there.
Holy fuckin shit this is trippy. I never knew such commercials existed for the HOG. Did such a time and place like 1978 really exist? I grew up near there, and went in a bunch of times, it was amazing. I think it's awesome to know that this is what was on local TVs in the same place that I was raised. But 11 years before my time.
I remember this and other weirder commercials vividly and would walk there from school and pour through the albums. It became the self -titled "store that ate my brain." That was before the internet killed the outernet.
this commercial aired for like...20 years i think. i am lucky to leave nearby and have bought all my guitars there. never been to a better guitar shop.
their prices were so good a lot of people here in ontario, directly across the lake from rochester a lot of people would drive over there to the great house of guitars to buy their guitars, we used to get a few rochester stations so everyone knew of TGHoG over here as well as WNED17 rochesters pbs station that played monty python constantly along with great movies and a lot of other great britcoms.
I wish I could find the commercial i was in, it was for the fan mail vs hate mail campaign, must have been 77 or 78. some girl recognized me from it at a carnival and we wound up dating for a while.
There was another commercial for HOG (1980-82?? -- while in college a Brockport) which featured a more "psychedelic" look and feel to it. If anyone finds it, please drop me a line. I'd like to use it in my Marketing class I teach.
These are my cousins, my mom and Armand were kids and grew up together. Anyone see the one with the caveman in it? That's my dad. Is it anywhere out here?
Just bought a guitar there today! Cool place, great commercial
Dude grew up in Rochester, Ny in the 1980's this is a time trip for me! Thanks for this

What is the song that's playing in the background? It's hard to hear the lyrics.

i remember being scared of the house of the guitars, when i was a kid, because of these commercials.
I grew up watching this stuff on late night TV. It drifted across Lake Ontario to my small Canadian town and completely infected my brain!
Toronto area?

same here, rochesters pbs station WNED17 was awesome as well, its where i first got to see all the monty pythons flying circus episodes
@@skippbitman Yeah, I got that it was not Toronto but there are plenty of small towns near the Toronto "area", like I said.

"I'm looking for a set of North drums..."
"North drums? Yes, we have all the Beach Boys albums!"
The world was once a cool place.
Oh Yeah man....

Found out in around 2007 that my favorite record store in my home area of Buffalo closed in 2006.
"Can you stand closer to the phone? We're filming this"

nope --never been there, just remember in the late 70's being a kid and staying up late to watch SNL and these commercials warped my mind!
that's my guitar store. I grew up with these commercials.
if you ever get the chance to go here do, it is like heaven
WOW !!! I hadn't seen that in about 35 years !!!!!
I told Armand that he has no idea how innovative these commercials were. If someone swiped these ad ideas today, they would be called a genius.
The Beach Boys - Sail on Sailor
Thank you!
Crazy to think that song was like 5 years old when this ad came out
i dont go anywere but the hog for all my guitar and music stuff
The House of Guitars is Awesome.
I'd like to know what they're on when they tape these commercials.
I want to go there NOW!
