The episode, besides being a filler, is a homage to the Martin Scorsese film "After Hours" which has a similar structure. The Blue Moon refers to Manchester City who use the song "Blue Moon" as their theme song. Beard's love of Jane Payne is summed up in his prayer in the church: "When I'm with her, life just seems more interesting." Also, Beard's alias of Declan McManus is actually the real name of Elvis Costello.
I was just about to mention that this was an "After Hours" episode. I remember that it wasn't too popular when it came out. I Liked it though.... It seems to have following now. A lot of movies and shows have paid homage to that movie... Atlanta had a good one.... I guess our heroes have never had a day like that. Where things do not go wrong, but monumentally wrong, and it even seems like space and time have conspired to influence timeline to unravel like a nested joke. Reality winks back and openly mocks you as you traipse through a Rube Goldbergian comedy of nightmares.... I guess....maybe the universe just saves that shite for the true weirdos...like me...
"Bird by bird" is a direct reference to a book by that name that is about the writing process, but the title itself a reference to an anecdote of the author's of how her brother was writing a report on birds that he had to cram to finish - their father's advice was to just take it bird by bird. Broadly the message is that big problems are manageable by tackling them in smaller pieces.
Kinda like a fever dream - YEP. And that's what I love about it - so perfect for Beard. Of course we understand why some folks hate the episode, but I really love it.
Fun fact, Beard actually can hoola hoop. Just as Rebecca can really sing and Higgins can really play the cello (double bass in US). Keep your eyes peeled for the actual talents of other characters too.
Finally! My absolute favorite episode of the show. It's so weird, and so amazing. Also reminds me of many a drug and alcohol fueled night, in the weirdness you experience :D Something that's easily missed is that all these commentators are old legends, and actual commentators, the biggest there is.
We don’t have the same blanket “open container” type laws but more recently local authorities can introduce Public Spaces Protection Orders that make specified actions illegal by designating them as anti-social behaviour. And some of those have included drinking in public. Transport for London banned drinking on the network a while back too. Thats England and Wales - I’m not sure about Scotland.
One of my favorite episodes (even though at the time a lot of people angrily complained about it). For something intended purely as filler it's SO interesting.
Older people in England get free public transport. And some of the sit on it for warmth because they can’t afford to heat their place. Not saying that’s what’s happening here necessarily, but I just thought of it.
1. This episode should be overstimulating; it’s what Coach Beard does. It’s a look inside his head. 2. To be fair, it’s a really good club song. Someday someone will make a half decent music video for it.
Wait, there are people who didn't like this episode?? My headcanon is that this is a semi-normal night for Beard. Like, his life is just casually insane and he's used to it.
I love the episode, but from IMDB user reviews, it's the lowest rated episode of the first two seasons and has the highest percent of 1 out of 10 ratings. A beloved episode by many, but very divisive.
@@ChadVital Lol, this is a show about an American handegg coach coming over to coach football, it's *all* stupid and pointless. That doesn't not make it fun.
@ listen, bud.. I see you replying to all my comments, but I think you should know: I’m not gay. Now, I’m flattered by the attention, but please, move on. You’ll find someone some day.

Also Beards Sarah's remark regarding best day of her live was straight out of "Fight Club"

What I love about this episode is how it shows you Jane from Beard's perspective.
They easily could do a spin-off of Coach Beard’s history.
Other people's embarrassment hurts my soul, too!

2:08 Yes. In the UK there is no restriction on drinking in a public place.
Yeah, the US is almost alone in that weirdness.
A pub or restaurant that agressively bussed their tables would also find itself out of business in most places for other disconnect.

@@a6ruled The oddest thing about the US is their public intoxication laws too though, where even being *drunk* in public can be a crime.
The Blue Moon is displayed after every Man City victory
I related to Arianna so much here. I too get massive second-hand embarrassment from people.
Very polarizing episode - love it or hate it with nothing in between. I hated it on first watch and think it's fine on the rewatches.
It’s funny that Maple called the football fan in the pub who was in GoT a “kid” when he’s older than her

This is a stand alone. Like the Christmas episode. Apple asked for 2 extra episodes. It’s based on a film, called…After Hours
It was a weird one, but still a good one
Thanks for explaining that 8 hours before the video premiered no one would have ever known without you...
@@dabreal82 why thank you ☺️
Freaking Thierry Henry

I love all the episodes, but this one and Amsterdam (S3) are my favorites.
Orion’s Belt!
As a neurodivergent person, yall are definitely One Of Us 😂❤
Hate to tell you this: There are no normal people. Which means we're all trying to find excuses.
I went to Warwick (1997). So did Brett Goldstein (but I don’t know the year).
This episode was a bit of an homage to the Martin Scorsese film After Hours.
Have you two made the connection that the initials of the pub trio's names are PB&J? :)

Who were yall referring to when you said they died recently?
Maggie smith
👍🏾
23:09 Just like how there's always great punk and hardcore music when you have a ruling government that's right wing.
Defo a filler, but i enjoyed it.
Even as I claim Ted Lasso is the best comedic series of all time… the Beardasode is LESS TGAN for me…
It takes 11 weeks to edit & post!?
Weirdest episode ever. 😂

MathematicS, multidisapline subject, short form is Maths.
I hate this episode. If ever there was a potential candidate for this series jumping the shark it's here imo.
Shows to react to:
*OZARK*
*YELLOW JACKETS*
*RESERVATION DOGS*
Ozark is SO dull 😂😂😂😂😂

The worst episode.
