Your stairs came out great. I had to laugh when you mentioned that you had to gather the motivation to paint your stairs.😂 I built my home in 1999-2000 and carpeted my stairs inside the house. I however wasn’t sure how I wanted to finish the steps from the garage to the basement. This morning I used these steps and got a bunch of “motivation “ so I was looking for some ideas and found your video. I have the paint so now I have to do some prep work (cleaning, sanding and taping) I am very patient so I’m think it will be very rewarding. Wish me luck. 🤞

I’m getting ready to do the same. I painted my hand rails and spindles black today. Just a TIP, use baby wipes or Clorox wipes to get paint off; it works. Just do it ASAP

Thanks for sharing this video. We were thinking about getting ours done but wasn't sure on the method. I love the concept of painting every other step so you can still use the staircase. The final result looks amazing!

I love this! I am so inspired to do my own. Our floors are also the same color at the bottom of the stairs. The only thing is I have laminate on part of my stairs so need to see if I can paint over it!

Amazing I’m considering doing it, not sure if black will work for us, possibly dark grey but love it, always like to check a sane persons methods before painting projects and glad I did as I coan imagine leaving everything up stairs etc and marking every other step is a great ideal to stop you getting carried away haha

Use graining tool with a little lighter paint color would look way better
If it says four hours why do two, then dust the steps which could likely spread dust onto the potentially not completly dried paint! 🤔🤷♀️ The final finish is beautiful. You did a great job!! Your patience paid off🥳😉. Like you said you can always revisit periodically if any finishing touches are needed. 🙏

Looks really good I wish I could do it in my house but there's always people up and down the stairs I do like them colours and that black paint looked like it went on really well

This looks really good. I love the black and white! Is the black paint for the stair treads a special type of paint that is hardy for walking on? What made you choose gloss for the risers and satin for the treads, and what do you think of the effect? Thank you so much for this video.

It’s been fine thank you. Marks here and there. Will be re-painting at some point but not anytime soon.
How did your black stairs hold up? Not sure if I want to paint or stain the stairs

You didn’t have to use a finish to protect the treads from chipping? They look so good? This is what I’m trying to figure out if I use like a wax?

Back of the steps is called the riser.
How has the black held up over time?
It’s held up pretty well. There’s minimal chips here and there but overall still looks good. I’ll be painting it maybe next summer with another coat of black paint just to freshen it up.

I just painted my stairs black and omg it's a dirt magnet. If you wear slippers and go up the stairs you see all the shoe prints. What did I do wrong?

I’d paint the laminate at the bottom and top too
Here bc the previous owners of our house painted our wooden stairs with leftover wall paint..after a few months of traffic it looks terriblee
Stairs look great though your not supposed to use satin or gloss paints on stairs for safety purposes as it makes it slippy...Is that laminate flooring on the landing or vinyl flooring?
thank you. I can confirm that there has been no slips or falls in almost 2 years. I run up and down in socks.

Did you sand the wood first and how has the paint been holding up?
I did light sanding because I was too lazy to do proper sanding and I didn’t want to clean up dust. So could have done a better job sanding but it was okay. The paint is holding up really well thank you. Some small chipped areas but overall still looking good

Hey, it has been over a year now, they look great to me. There are little chips here and there but nothing major maybe after year two I might think of touching them up a bit but so far so good!
If you use chaulk paint and a wax it will last longer I think. I redo furniture and I use chaulk paint for all my furniture it covers so well and the best part it can be a dark walnut stain you don’t have to sand unless it’s rough of course it will cover right over the stain. Make sure you always seal your though. They have different dealers I am a fan of the antique finish.
