- The Nottingham City of Caves (also known as the Tigguo Cobauc) which lie under the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre in Nottingham is a vast area dating back to medieval times. Beneath the houses, shops and offices of Nottingham lie hundreds of caves. Few people in Nottingham are aware of this labyrinth, which exists underneath the city streets, and fewer still have visited them. Nottingham has more man-made caves than anywhere else in Britain. People have worked and lived in them for over 1,000 years.

Yes, as a teenager my dad and mom always said that mine and my sisters room looked like a cess pit or a garbage dump. Sometimes they just said that it looked like a tornado hit it, lmao.

25 years ago I was homeless in Nottingham and my friend and I used to sleep in the caves beneath the castle. It was quite creepy, especially at night.

Cess pit it refers to where people used to dump their poop and wee .
My mum often referred to a cess pit - “get that room cleaned it looks like a cess pit!”.
Above ground the people would throw their wee and poop from their jerries or buckets in designated areas, go further back in time they emptied their jerries straight out of their window into the streets. Think of the poor unsuspecting people who are just happening to walk by 😳 ...

This is just one that starts out seeming more like just abandoned space until toward the end.

Definitely recommend and see if you can spend the night at the Salutation Inn. You would hopefully be allowed to investigate a very old pub and even older caves at the same time.

I've always heard that those sections of the caves are actually fake, intended as a tourist attraction - the majority of actual caves have caved in. I believe there is an entrance at the cemetery on Mansfield Road, an entrance in the Salutation Inn on Maid Marian Way and then an entrance in the Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem which sits under Nottingham Castle which also has an entrance. The Caves however do literally span the entire city. It's interesting.
If you ever get a chance, you should try and investigate Salutation Inn, an old friend of mine lives there as his dad is the landlord, he's told many strange stories and he is a skeptic. Another friend of mine works there as well and she has spoke a little girl in the cellar that likes to grab your hand. Really, strange.
I wish I had your friends lol, sounds like a really interesting place to go visit. Can't beat good company AND ghosts 😂
Salutation Inn would be a great place to investigate. Lots of history.
@@jezzaus2124 Agreed, it's incredibly old, almost as old as Ye Olde Trip. Plus, with there being an entrance into the caves in their cellar I think it would be brilliant to investigate! Plus St. Mary's Church next door to it as well, adds to eeriness!

Hi guys i went down there with haunted happenings a few months ago and my group and i made contact with a spirit of a little girl though a ouji board and glass divination which was really interesting and the galleries of justice was a very active place too. Well done lads, another good video. If you are looking for haunted locations check out west wycombe in Buckinghamshire. The town itself has 2 haunted pubs and of course the infamous hellfire caves built under the church and mausoleum. Been down the caves once and they have a seriously eerie feeling that stays with me to this day 28 years later. P.s. the ceilings are slightly higher so Griff should be safer in these caves 👲🤣🤣🤣

Really!! I cant believe you've never been to either. I once did a sleepover in the galleries if justice it was super scary. I dont think much of the caves but it was good to take the kids down
