KURENT JUMP CLEVELAND, OHIO! Slovenian National Home Party to Wake Up Kurents for Kurentovanje!

We are in Cleveland Ohio at the Slovenian National Home on Saint Claire St. for the Kurent Jump. The Kurent Jump is the winter festival before the big winter festival, Kurentovanje! About a week before Kurentovanje the Slovenian National Home has a huge party where Cleveland Slovenians and honorary Slovenians make a ton of noise around a parking lot bon fire to wake the Kurents. Kurents are the masked, hairy, mythical creatures with bells on their butts that dance around and parade down the streets of Cleveland to help chase away winter. When the Kurents wake from their slumber the party has just begun. Inside their is polka music, usually provided by The Chardon Polka Band, the kitchen is serving up Slovenian sausages and Beef golosh and the Kurents even have their own brand of beer. There is singing and dancing into the night at this adult only party. All of this is leading up to next weekends Big winter festival Kurentovanje.

Cleveland is great. What a fin festival. Hopefully well be able to see you guys when Rosalie and I drive to DC. Those costumes look super warm. But very creepy. What a fun time.
