@@angelmontesinos4937 Tried it, thanks. A little bit too linear for me in the second part. Sokolov chose to play the 2nd part with this inconsistent rythm that brings out emotions, fragility. Unrivaled to me! ;)
One feels that the very human voice, the true lyrical, searching soul of these sensitive, titanic pieces has never flown higher nor more freely in the 200 years since they were conceived, than under Sokolov's hands.
This is absolutely amazing. I’ve always loved sokolov’s style. When was this performance? Just curious. His Beethoven 16th in some school auditorium w kids playing at a playground in the background is sheer perfection in every way. Thanks for posting this performance.
I always listen to the way the pianist plays the second episode of this piece. I like the performance of Wilhelm Kempff the best which implies infinite solitude. Sokolov's performance is close to that of Kempff. I don't like the performance which associates a blizzard, by the way. Thank you for uploading !
I agree. I am a big fan of rubato, used judiciously, but he just seems to be slowing down and speeding up willy nilly, to my ears. The rhythm and momentum gets lost for this.
A bit of fluidity in the phrasing is good in this piece but this is just too sloppy, almost inarticulate. The last section is just too heavy and laboured. It should be light and brisk.
Simply enchanting every time you listen.
Thank you for putting together this wonderful collection. For me, this first piece leads them all.
total .... amando
Sokolov mastered it, probably the best performance around. Thanks for uploading it.
Try with Paul Lewis performance!

This piece is heartachingly beautiful!

somewhat hyperbolic, to say the least

I have a way to avoid the ads, so they didn't show up
I have to confess that this is one of those pieces by Schubert that never really won my love. Yes, he actually did write such pieces.
Laboured !

Love's Labour's Lost?
brutally played. what an insult.

unfortunately mister sokolov did not understand this piece 😞
Conceited statement ;)
