Just a bit of clarification. When I did the overload test on the Sidekick, I used settings that produced approximately 355 watts of draw when plugged into the wall, just to be fair/safe. Without changing anything, I unplugged it from the wall and plugged it into the Sidekick. It didn't even hold it long enough for the watt meter to catch up and show the load. When I tested the R300 at 375 watts or so, that was after already confirming that it didn't shut off at the 355 watts. I then turned it down in the video and then turned it back up. Also, the Sidekick does hold 300 watts without shutting down. It just will not hold 350-360 for 30 seconds (as it claims in the specs). It faults out after just a few seconds.
Thank you for the video! I too am repulsed by the 4Patriots marketing when I first saw it on TH-cam and you nailed it, it's just like used-car salesman marketing. 🙄
I had a jolly good laugh over this - thank you 😂. The marketing here definitely one-ups the S7 welder you reviewed with the "I want to spend the rest of my life with this welder" marketing !
BUT WAIT! THAT'S NOT ALL! NOW you get less for your money than ever before! WOW. BTW, We fired our plastics factory and hired a team of used car salesmen to generate our ad copy! Now how much would you pay?! AND we even include a FREE cardboard box it is shipped in. Other features include the Boat Anchor function, just chuck it overboard and your boat will hardly drift. I was hoping you would pull the covers, and it was quite clear how cheaply and poorly designed the Sidekick is, especially when you load tested it. and the R300 is still the same price on Amazon currently. I was trying to imagine a use scenario, but I guess running laptop and that ilk these would work pretty good. I do not have a need for these currently; if I need to, I have a 2K watt inverter. So, GoLabs it is then.
Ha! Yeah, that's barely even parody. It's tough to parody something that's already so over the top. I think the moment I decided this stuff had to be pointed out/talked about was when I saw the disclaimer that said the reviews showed "exceptional" results that wouldn't be your results and the "real" reviews had their names and faces changed to protect privacy. Based on that,, the good reviews could literally be from their employees.
4Patriots??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for your review and thoughts. Not sure how you were able to do your review. 4Patriots will not allow other TH-camrs to perform product reviews on their "solar generators". It makes one wonder what they are afraid will get out. The ... ONLY ... way I would have a 4Patriots "solar generator" is if they were to send me one FOC. I would NEVER waste my money on a 4Patriots "solar generator".
As for how I did my review, I didn't ask. I just bought one and reviewed it. By the way, if you know of anyone who is interested in purchasing a lightly used Sidekick, I know a guy, lol.
Hi, Thank you for your reply! Yes the Sidekick comes on but only when connected to the wall plug. It's been plugged in for 2 days! Shows 65% but the hours is 00 and the watts show 1.
When unplugged, will it turn on? If not, I'm not sure how you are supposed to let it run down, other than just letting it sit for months. Are they refusing to cover it under warranty, or is the warranty expired? If they require you to do further testing to verify the fault, then I think it should be up to them to tell you how to do it, if they are requiring it. Good luck. Hopefully you can get something resolved.
Your side tangent, gave me insight to why I've been saying 110v vs younger people saying 120v. I thought it might be traditional phrase carried beyond the truth. :)
I agree. I would like to have checked out and tested their 1,800W machine, but I wasn't going to spend that kind of money. And their newer, 2,000W model is $3,000!
I literally just came from there web site and looked at this unit , the new one , was shocked by the way they advertised it . Reads like an infomercial . For $3000 you only get 1600WH . I was like “no way!!” It is by far the poorest value for $ per WH of all of these solar generators . By a far margin. What on earth .
There are so many good solar generators out there I wonder why anyone would buy these from this company. Just a little diligence will steer you in the right direction.
The sidekick that I got only lasted six months sorta wouldn't even run a single size heating blanket in the winter through the night would turn off after five or six hours. What a waste of money. Now it doesn't charge at all
If you've been suckered in... how do you discharge it, so that you can recharge it up all the way? Thats what their tech called "a reset." It says 65% but shows no hours left and it won't charge up more than that after being plugged in for 2 days. AND also 2 more days of being hooked to the solar panels. It will Not run anything, even while plugged into the wall. You can't even turn on the light. At this point it's like a small boat anchor!
A 300 watt inverter probably won't run a full size refrigerator. I'm not sure what the running wattage would be. It's possible even the running wattage would be too much. But the startup current of the compressor would almost certainly be too high.
Found this review too late. Was depending on this thing for a weekend camping trip and it completely died 15 minutes into charging my phone. Very disappointed
No it doesn't come on unless plugged in. When plugged in Nothing works. I've been FB messaging someone & someone is supposed to call me Saturday am. Makes me wonder why it's taken a week to talk to someone about my Sidekick. Wish I'd understood that it's basically a rechargeable battery that can also be charged by the sun. Maybe we would have bought something less expensive. Thanks for helping!
I think that's the only Hone welder I haven't reviewed. It looks similar to the 185D, but 120V only instead of dual voltage. I'll consider getting one to test.
I called them and they just said, I am out of luck. The warranty had expired. I never used it. I suppose it's my fault but I thought I had charged it up when I got it. Anyway, 11 months, never used and they said Oh well, can't help you. So, No More 4 Patriots of any kind, for me. Thanx@@bigtb1717
Those people are literally attracted to lies and deception. It's like how gen z has zero attention span except logic and reason instead of attention span.
My mini sidekick doesn't hold charge. Called customer support and in order fir my concern to be addressed I had to pay $1 to a support staff member. How unprofessional! Cystomer satisfaction VERY POOR! Don't do business with this company. How dare they use the word Patriot in their product.
At least you got to a live person... I never did & I waited on hold for 29 minutes and 30 seconds before giving up so maybe they would return my call... Emails said I could use the chat but I couldn't find the chat. When I finally found one it was a bot think and not a "live chat." When I started posting my displeasure with both the 2000x & the sidekick... some of my posts disappeared... imagine that. Then I got a chat message from someone... never gave me a name... they took my info and Scheduled me a call back time with a tech... several days later! You spend Thousands of dollars and then get poor follow up service.
I personally would be wary of any company using patriot in their name. I have yet to see any that offer greater value to the consumer than competitors without the name.
4patriots solar are overpriced, JUNK! Save your money and get more power for cheaper! Pecron e600 is a 618wh for $299. And no 4patriots is doing nothing right with their products

Bro u should review everything from iPhones to toasters. Ur a great reviewer
This is by far the best review I have ever seen for this company's products. Well done.
Thanks, had to talk someone out of purchasing the Patriot.
It's not outright "bad," (though it has some quirks) but it's definitely a bad value.

Another great review!

You should return it !!
I'm tempted.
Their large solar power station is also a poor value.
I agree. I would like to have checked out and tested their 1,800W machine, but I wasn't going to spend that kind of money. And their newer, 2,000W model is $3,000!

Their stations are a lot of hype.

Damn, I wish I had watched this before buying it!
The sidekick that I got only lasted six months sorta wouldn't even run a single size heating blanket in the winter through the night would turn off after five or six hours. What a waste of money. Now it doesn't charge at all
I call it the "SideScam"
Was never able to charge it on the solar panel even in full sun I live in the desert
If you've been suckered in... how do you discharge it, so that you can recharge it up all the way? Thats what their tech called "a reset."

Does the inverter at least turn on? If so, just leaving the inverter turned on will drain the battery over time.
What type of battery is it running?
They claim to be LiFePO cells and I don't see any reason to doubt that.
Will the 4 Patriots run my refrigerator

Hey bud could you review another hone welder? A 110volt 120amp hone welder called a Sim stick 120
I think that's the only Hone welder I haven't reviewed. It looks similar to the 185D, but 120V only instead of dual voltage. I'll consider getting one to test.
The 120v hone welders are 70$ on ebay
@@Patrick-ps4ez Yeah, I think it was around $68 on Amazon the other day.
I have one. 11 months old. Won't charge, won't turn on. Won't do anything, just sit on a shelf.
Bummer. Did you try to get any support or warranty repair from the customer? Just curious.
Who coulda guessed the company advertising to Jan 6 fascists is a scam 😮😮😮
Those people are literally attracted to lies and deception. It's like how gen z has zero attention span except logic and reason instead of attention span.
Its garbage. Dont throw your money away.
U need to get it for 100 bucks and cancel the transaction like I did lol
