That is such a heartwarming video, getting out of the city and starting a self-sufficient way of life, is a great way to truly bond as a young family! way of life
Never would have thought living in a tent in the middle of winter could be that comfortable! Stayed in a bell tent in Northland during March (!) a couple years ago and it was FREEZING overnight.
Beautiful video!! Great story. I have a question for Morgan and Jessica - what material is their yurt made from? Is it canvas or plastic based? It looks wonderfully clean and free from mould -we have really struggled with our canvas yurt in Otaki Gorge. I would also be interested to know if their yurt is insulated - thanks
Hey! From the inside out, it's canvas, wool insulation, builders wrap, PVC. Having the woodburner or some other sort of heating I think is key to preventing mould, we did encounter some after a run of warm, humid days when we had our laundry indoors, so now we'll start a fire even if it's not cold, if we think it's too moist out.
Yes, though I try not to work full days if I can avoid it! Having a laptop as my main computer helps, because you can scale your power usage if you need to.
Would you live in a yurt?
Yep
Just spent 3 days in one during the worst weather ever in Northland. Dry, and with a fire going it turned into a sweat lodge LOL!
@@barrythomson8770 Ha Ha, that is something to consider.
What a neat story, I loved it when she said everything takes time be patient ❤
Good advice aye! Off-grid life really is a journey, just chipping away a bit each day.
It is a theme in all of the videos in this series

It's definitely brought them closer together! So good for the soul too.
Thanks GridFree - great video. Good people, their happiness and ease with themselves and their lives shines.

She's one of our favourites so far!

It was so nice and warm inside! The insulation definitely helped keep the warmth of the fire in.

I wonder if I could convince my partner to go for something like this! Is Morgan able to work a full day purely off-grid?
It's worth a shot! Yes, Morgan can work full days off-grid 🙌
Good luck 😉
