Just for your information Geoff Dog's Bollocks was a beer that was brewed by the Wychwood Brewery in Oxfordshire, England which was delicious. Good review as always.
Nice review! I have tried a few of these, and I think this is my favourite of the bunch. They do tend to be young and raw, like you say. Cheers, Geoff!
Happy to hear you giving the blenders some airtime. They deserve it. I have several from Douglas Laing and really loved their Christmas 2021 and The Beach Barbecue which were Big Pete. I’m currently really enjoying Campervan from Thompson Brothers Dornoch Distillery. I must applaud the lauding tongue twister. I always listen at a faster speed(to get it over with more quickly) and it sounded clever very clever.
I like this one. It's pretty interesting. I dont remember the batch i had. But i remember a banana note in mine. For me, this is worth the money. Cheers! Great review!
I really like the DL regional malts series and the Gauldrons in particular, think I have had Batch 2 and 5. The cask strength releases of the Gauldrons are also pretty good if you can track them down.
I had a bottle of this very batch 03 last year, but I wasn't overly impressed to be honest, for me it was forgettable. Even though, I think there are better batches (WB consensus) out there, I'm not gonna try buying another one. Cheers Frank!
I have had and enjoyed a number of bottles of this (not sure of the batch). I would highly recommend the Cask Strength release, there have been two batches of this which I have had at two separate whisky tastings and both have gone down very well. Have also tried the Sherry finish release and found it a bit m'eh.
Hi Geoff... I agree with you, I would also describe it as punchy, with character and something (I can't tell precisely what it is) that reminds me wee bit of Oban. In my opinion this is a very good choice as an alternative to the SM from campbeltown, especially for those like me who are in a place where very little Glen Scotia and no Springbank and Kilkerran are available. My bottle is from Travel Retail, I understand that the liquid is not very different from the regular expression, except for a label with more golden color, the 1lt bottle and higher ABV 48% . Thanks for the review, Cheers! 💪🥃
This is encouraging Geoff as like you I did not enjoy the Gauldrons when I first tried it either. Maybe it deserves another chance. I'd also be quite curious to see how this compares to Campbeltown Loch. My vote would be for the Loch but that's batch variant AF too! Cheers dude!
Been keeping an ear out for it for a while now but I still detect an attempt at humor now and again. Non existent for most of the time but please, look into this. Sincerely, a concerned fan.
I had my mouth washed out with soap for saying bugger as a child. I can still taste it 30 years later. I have a bottle of this, it sounds very nice. I might crack it open (fingers crossed it does not taste like soap).
they tend be lauded by enthusiasts even by me I've been known to give a laud or two I mean I don't have long history of lauding a lot of Laing's but I have lauded a Laing or two along the way 🤣
I have Batch 4, 46.2% ABV, which I picked up last year when it was nominated in the OSWAs. There are identifiable Campbeltown notes, and it is OK, but I also have bottlings of Timorous Beastie and Scallywag which are really good, so I was expecting more from this. I did a side by side against KK12 and The Gauldrons just lacked body and flavour in comparison. Doesn't seem to be as bad as the reports on Batch 6 though, so it looks like the quality is going downhill in more recent bottlings. I certainly won't be replacing it. Prices here are variable. I bought my bottle for $120 NZD, and I've seen it listed higher than that, but one retailer recently had it on special for $79 and currently has it for $94. It definitely isn't worth the price I paid. Cheers!
Not a fan! Don’t know of anyone who is! Sorry!! Oh no I think I have turned into a scotch snob!! Peat!! lol!! 😂 Terrific video and thoughts Geoff!! All recovered from the fricking food poisoning thankfully. Brutal. Have an awesome day!!
Two things to avoid according to Christine: Canned lentil soup and Gauldrons Batch 6. Appreciate all the warnings! 😂 Glad to hear you're feeling better. Cheers! 🥃

I have batch 6 and it is mediocre. Extremely rough and alcoholic, not worth at all. I would not recommend it. Campbeltown Loch is like 10 times better and basically the same price.
@@WhoeverNevermind Rock Oyster was a different story, superb quality even young. I love young punchy heavily peated whisky as well like KK with drop of wateror or without 😁🥂🙋♂️

I must try some Big Peat which tempts me for a while. Currently enjoing "Tesco one" by TB, fantastic dram. 😁🥂🙋♂️
Had a bottle last year and really liked it. Will definitely get another bottle if I can find one! Also enjoyed the Scallywag from Douglas Laing.

Manage to have missed this one over the years. So don't worry, no comments from me.

First time I hear from this expression. Interesting value for a Campbeltown whisky. Good review!
Thanks! 🙏

Sounds solid for what it is!
Especially the "zingy charm" really sold it to me🤓🎩

I added some Longrow (to stay on region) to improve mine. Still got a 2nd bottle and suspect it will be a number of years before I return to the well.

I have the sherry variety, it's ok but much as you described. I prefer Campbelltown Loch over it any day of the week.
What is this sorcery? A blend?
Great deal
Thanks for reviewing a blend. How about the Timorous Beastie?
Thanks

You're the second person in the comments who's singled out Batch 6 specifically as bad. Maybe I won't try the recent stuff. 😬

@christinecamley How can you tell which batch you have? I couldn't find it on the bottle of tube.
This one or Campbelltown Loch? Pretty much same price around here
That's the comparison I want to hear about too

Not surprised. I have same experience with Rock Island CS. Nice nose but young harsh and spirit driven in bad way. 😁🥂🙋♂️
