I concur! There's only so many times you can appreciate screaming like a girl on Big Thunder. There's so much more to the US than Disney and the states of Florida and California.

I used Motel 6 when I helped my friend move from Portland Oregon to Orlando. Every time before we went in the room, we'd play a game of dead body or drug bust. Meaning what we thought happened in the room in the past. Drug bust was easy to tell due to the door being repaired....made for a humerus adventure. We only used them because it was one of the only options we had that accepted pets and we had her dog.

Some were in very good shape. But with any cheap hotels that are close to major highways there is a good chance it's home to unsavory characters.

Okay so the best clam chowder is in Pismo at splash cafe you walked right past it to get back to the car. In morro bay my grandpa actually got to go into the smoke stacks out there and my step dad climbed them to test the smoke. The morro bay rock was actually a plug to a volcano that was there a very long time ago. The cinnamon rolls you passed up are the best in the world I grew up eating them every year they came to our county fair. The Morro rock you ca drive right up to but you can’t get really close because it is a protected site. This clog made me miss my California home so much. It has been a year since I was there. The central coast of California is so beautiful and hasn’t been spoiled too much by people. I might write more in the reply as I still have 20 minutes left in the video lol.
Ah the Madonna Inn! Loved seeing this. Used to watch that on ‘girls next door’

Great video boys, me & my better half did all this in a dodge charger in April/may this year started in Chicago, then flew to San Francisco and drove PCH 1 to San Diego, with stays in Carmel (beautiful) jagged point... amazing cakes .... Santa Barbara, San Louis abispo but was gutted we couldn't drive over Bixby bridge as there had been a major landslide!.... We also went to Santa Cruz and morro bay.....❤ed every second...I even saw one of your videos on how to drive in America...Great advice as I'd never driven there B4... But wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...also went to long beach and found the Ferris bueller house!... Brilliant....oh yeah, Monterey too, just gutted we couldn't see much of big sur, because of the road slip... keep making these brill vids guys!

The Madonna Inn is like The Flamingo in Las Vegas. I saw Viva Las Vegas recently and it hasn’t changed much.
That hotel in San Francisco looks amazing.

I often stay at Motel 6 but that one was super dirty. I stayed there this Spring and the floor hadn't been swept or mopped. There was dirt and garbage behind the door. I loved the City Park at Pismo beach that is on the cliff above the surf. The rock formations in the water there are so cool. I loved the French Bakery in Morro Bay. I videos a Loon diving and herding fish into a circle and then dive through the middle of it to catch them. He did it over and over. There were 30 sea Otters resting in the shallows by the Rock and elephant seals. I ended up staying there 3 days instead of just visiting. I loved it.

We stayed in one many years ago on my sister in law’s recommendation ( her hubby was a tight wad). We checked out almost immediately it was filthy, the white towels were grey and had the biggest cockroach I’ve ever seen

@@TheLodgeGuys I’m going back a few years there- but I’ve never walked in and out of a motel so quickly. Looking at current reviews it’s a very mixed bag.
We honeymooned in San Francisco 22 years ago and spent a couple of nights at a Bed and Breakfast in Carmel by the Sea. It looks like it hasn't changed much, such a quaint little town and beautiful part of CA. This vlog brings back so many wonderful memories. Can't wait to see more of San Francisco in your next vlog.

What a fun Vlog! Looking forward to getting to the Pacific Ocean again.
The only time I’ve been in California was way back in 1990 touring up and down doing shows mostly in schools. But we went to San Simeon, which is the Hearst Castle - I think you went right past where it is, but it was pretty fascinating. And it’s a shame you didn’t have time to go closer to the coast at Carmel-by-the-Sea, which is one of the most beautiful places I think I’ve ever seen (I was there in the spring, so I don’t know if it’s just as pretty in the fall, though I suspect it is). Still, you saw some places I probably would never have thought to visit, and it was interesting to see them, too.
Love Hearst Castle and I really liked Carmel-by-the-sea as well. I always remember their law about not being able to wear high heeled shoes without a permit lol. And it's fun to know Clint Eastwood was the Mayor there for a couple of years.
Big Sur and Monterey Bay are two of my fave areas along the coastline. Hearst Castle was amazing as well, its in between Morro Bay and Ragged Point. It's been 30 years since I've been, and would definitely love to go again one day.
going to Pismo is a CA thing… rarely does anyone really go there and stay in a motel…they all take their motorhomes and toyhaulers… as you saw…They take their Sandune’s and motorbikes and ride all over the beach with it… it’s really hard to get booked into a spot unless you do it way in advance…I’m so glad you went to Madonna Inn…. too bad you weren’t able to eat anything there or try there cakes… They are amazing…I knew you guys would like clam chowder ….I really hope you tested out a lot more places…everybody has their own recipe….nice room in SF…. Loving this trip….love you guys❤️❤️

Me and my husband did the PCH in 2015 in one day from Santa Monica to Monterey. Was a long 9 hours of driving with a few stops. Highly recommend.

I grew up in a little town off of HWY 1 called Santa Cruz, being local to PCH you take for granted the beauty that is our back yard. It’s refreshing to see you guys enjoy it.

What a smashing videos guys. Nick did so well to drive PCH - it is not a relaxing drive. We stand and look out over the Pacific and say “next stop Japan”. Leigh is right, the camera can’t do it justice. PCH regularly shuts down with rock falls during the winter. Something surreal about seeing you both in my neck of the woods. The beach front hotels in Pismo are at the north end. There are a few slightly cheaper but decent hotels at Arroyo Grande which runs inland from Pismo - anything near the coast is $$$. The sea otters are regulars in the estuary at Morro Bay. My son lived 3 years in SLO ( pronounced “slow” aka San Luis Obispo) - great surfing area to the right of Morro Rock. The otters would pop up by his surf board. Carmel (we drop the “by the sea”) is lovely but $$$. Doris Day owned an Inn (Cypress Inn) that was always very dog friendly. So excited to see the next vlog and what you get up to in San Francisco.

Hi guys, loved watching this vlog. We drove from San Francisco to LA in 2019 and its so great seeing it all again. Big Sur was my favourite part, along with Mariposa and Yosemite. 😊

Absolutely loved this one, especially all of the lovely views , though I was cringing as you drove near the edge of the clIffs , I would have been petrified . Madonna’s inn did look quirky but there is deffo no “P” in Eclectic! 🤣🤣😂😂 Hotel in SF looked very swanky too .

Bringing back great memories of my trip in September loved Carmel by the sea we stayed 2 nights in monteray highly recommend it for whale watching

OMG, I am old but back in the 80's there was a tv show about St Francis but called St Gregory. Connie Sellecca was the lead. I think it was called Hotel. Her name was Christine Francis. See how they did that? James Brolin was in it, an Aaron Spelling production. The Seals are my favorite. I love Carmel but $$$$.

Such beautiful views. A friend of my was going to stay at that one place with all the different theme rooms & pink dinning room but realized they wouldn't have time to stay there. I had looked at all the different rooms on goggle. They were cool. I like the tour you doing. Maybe I'll get out there one day since I live in the USA.✌️👍😎

That’s a beautiful hotel (The St Francis) and you’re in the center of everything downtown. I love Union Square. Grew up 10 minutes away! So much to do! Excited to see the next vlog. Enjoy the Bay!

We did it the other way round (Monterey to Lompoc) just 2,5 weeks ago. It is so beautiful there and the sea is full of life. Even saw humpback whales from the beach. I am excited at what is coming next and if you will be doing a similar trip (Yosemite, Vegas and canyons).
We went down on the beach in Daytona in our hire car on a road trip to Savannah
Andy and I particularly enjoyed this vlog as we did drive from LA to SF but did not have time to go on the Pacific Coast Highway so took the Freeway.

An overnight stay is needed to enjoy Carmel. It’s such a lovely place to stroll, shop and eat.

Really interesting. There are some lively restaurants in Carmel. Well worth taking 3-4 days to savour the PCH.
Yes for sure need more time there than we had. We imagine you could do a whole road trip just on the PCH
I hope you’re going to Yosemite. The scenery there is breathtaking.
Motel 6 used to be great for just an overnight sleep, and very cheap before the 2000s. But now they aren't anymore. Usually nosey from guests hanging around the pool and on the landing, and some aren't clean enough and even the pillows smell bad. We complained and were offered a free night but decided to give up on them.

The urinal is a waterfall to "flush it". I went in when it was empty to peek at it. The ladies room is not as fun. :) The Inn always reminds me of the movie Welcome home Roxy Carmichael with the Almond Roca obsession.

Do you plan to visit new York for a few days whilst based in Florida? Flights reasonable. I know it's on Leigh's bucket list. I have been and loved it.

Niagara Falls is impressive if you get to go to Canada, specially if you go on the river boat you get soaked take ya cagoule 🙈🤣🤣🤣

@@TheLodgeGuys oh no, my mistake, it’s just that the aquarium at Monterey was the inspiration for the institute in the film Finding Dory. If you visit there you can see instantly the similarities.
