I just put in a really nice "regulation" horse shoe pit complete with back stops and everything, I didn't even know how to keep score, it just looks like fun!
It is fun with a few friends on a cool night with some adult beverages. I love pitching at night more than anything. I hate the transition of pitching while it’s dusk. One or the other. Bright day light or completely dark either a solid light
I am mystified by the turn. What are the advantages ? It seems counterintuitive to me. Do some people instinctively throw a turn because their brain tells them it’s the best way to throw a ringer ? Or , is it something people commit to learning because of advantages , real or perceived? I’ve been pitching a few years and RP is low to mid 20s. Had I not joined a club and seen videos, it would have never occurred to me that throwing a turn was even an option. I’d love to hear others perspectives Great job Quicksilver!
Thanks for the comment. I never really had an opinion on the turn until I learned how to pitch one. As a single flipper I always heard that if you want to be competitive in this sport you need to learn to throw a turn shoe. I wanted to learn to throw a turn without losing my ability to flip. Now that I can do both I can, with confidence say that the turn has “less moving parts”. As long as I get my timing and height, the shoe goes on like magic. My flip takes a lot more focus and has a lot more points that I need to be aware of from start………. to finish. So I think the advantages are “REAL”. One advantage is that your turn shoe is grabbing the stake with the hook more often than one would do with a flip shoe. You might find that after a summer of learning to pitch a turn shoe might get you right back up to your RP of the mid 20s and you’ll have a new found love for the sport and that’ll make you want to practice that much more. Research how to pitch a turn before you start because there are some bad habits that you don’t want to start and then have to try and break. At that point you’re just wasting your own time.
@@Qukslvr Thanks for the thoughtful reply! I throw a single flip too. It seems to me that a flip is far more forgiving than a turn. I am thinking about it mathematically and it seems that there is nearly 180 degrees of variance that a flip shoe can end up a ringer where a turn shoe has about 90 degrees - (1/4 of a circle ) I’m not sure if I’m explaining my thought process clearly with this point. And I realize my thinking may be wrong. It seems to me the height and release must be correct with either a flip or a turn Regarding “more moving parts” with a flip , I’m not sure what you mean by this? It seems exactly the opposite to me. Although, since you can throw both, I recognize that you know a lot more than me about the subject. I understand what you’re saying about the hooks having a better chance to grab the stake with a turn. My response to this point is that I don’t lose many ringers because they don’t stay on the stake. It seems to me that any advantage is negated by the reduced angle a turn has to grab the stake. All the good 40’ pitchers I see throw a turn. It seems a flip is more common for 30’ pitchers If a flip is a good idea at 30’, why isn’t it as good at 40’? I know I’m getting “in the weeds” with my questions. I am very interested in the subject and appreciate your thoughts.
Gina step further and ask why the best shot wouldn’t be a multi-flip. Even when a multi-flip is under or over rotated past your 180° mark, it still has a good chance of ringing the stake because of its fast flipping motion yet you see very little people throwing that type of shoe and nobody at worlds in the championship class throwing it.
@@Qukslvr thanks for the reply! I dont follow your thinking on this point. The geometry doesn’t change because a shoe flips more than once or flips faster. The shape of the shoe is obviously the same, regardless of the rate at which it rotates
My thinking is since it flips faster it’s open more due to the momentum going towards the stake. A slow one flip shoe remains closed longer then a fast multi flipping shoe. Simply a better chance to get a ringer.
It could be. I’d do it for feee. Our league could be followed throughout the 2024 season as we go for our 11th championship. I’ll record all the footage and ESPN can edit it all
I can’t throw a turn shoe. I’m a 76-77% shooter and I throw with a 1 flip, but my dad has always thrown a half turn shoe and have NEVER beat him. I get made fun of bcuz mine hardly ever make a sound bcuz I don’t throw over the top of the peg. Mine always like slide to the peg, or skip to it. It works for me😂
I hate this game!...I have practiced my ars off and can't get consistent no matter which way I throw! LOL...I wonder sometimes if its the shoes they are throwing...Our regulation shoes aren't rounded like that, ours are more square...

Very good telecasting and video. I do not envy a 40 ftl Flip Tosser and welcomed my entry into the Elder's Class 30 ft. several years ago.
I love pitching 40 feet.
I hope the flip gets it I haven’t watched it thru yet. I’m 33 and been flipping since a kid!!!!
Turn-n-burn baby 😊
Flipper I hope because I’m a single flip player as well but the turn player has a better percentage and the advantage I guess
Good job Dave
Thanks Allan. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

I’m 45% with a flip the turn is impossible for me but it’s so fun to watch.
Why isn't this on ESPN?

Do they throw to clay pits?
Yes sir. Yes indeed.

77% pitcher and can’t beat your dad? He’s a beast!!!!
If you pitch 77% then it would be a quick adjustment to pitch in clay.

What’s the name on your shoes?
