also, the games only purpose is really to create more pokemon merch for consumers to want to buy. They make soo much more money from the merch than the game. Pokemon is the game equivalent of power rangers

They did that with the phone in the Johto games, and even if you said yes, your mom just said "Oh, so you know you need to..." or something along those lines and just said it anyway!
I love how everyone at first is weary of Ball Guy and then look forward to seeing him anywhere and everywhere they can.
He is one of the few unique characters who doesn't teleport you suddenly for a five minutes lore dump.

I get not wanting a whole mess of pokemon in there, but just not having those that would be super easy to bring in seems like there was another reason that they're not telling us

I had a theory
In the dex cuts, many major trainers through-out the series lost most, if not all their teams.
On top of this, you cannot capture Pokemon too high above your level.
This is all part of Leon's plot to remain the undefeated champion.

Emerald Nightmare Sun and Moon was FAR worse, remember the trainer school? Plus, you can actually skip a lot of the early tutorials in this game which is fantastic.

Can we all just agree that pokemon seriously needs difficulty settings?
Like literally just "beginner" and "advanced" or something.
Aka the normal pokemon experience and a more challenging one.
Everyone is saying how pokemon needs to be more difficult which is definitely true, but remember that the target audience is children and me as a young child totally sucked at pokemon because I was kind of an idiot. But all you'd need is, at the very beginning of the game, a difficulty option. It seriously wouldn't be that hard to make, since it is a clear issue that Gamefreak needs to fix.
They did try that once (Black/White 2 IIRC).
Rather amusingly however you could only unlock the difficulty settings by using the V-Sync (or whatever mechanic it was) and then communicating with someone who has completed Black 2 (I think) in order to unlock the Hard Mode key, who could then send this to you and you could then use it to unlock hard mode and play through it.
Hard mode itself however was actually pretty good - but as seems to be the trend with Gamefreaks pokemon creations post DS they can't let you accidentally make a challenge for yourself, so they basically ensure that you have to go out of your way to obtain any semblance of challenge by locking it behind actually playing the game - because no one has ever played a pokemon game before.

Ultra has 403.
Neither of those are anywhere near 800.
(Yes, you can have any pokemon in the game, but to say that they can be caught in said games is blatantly wrong.)
