I had the chance to say something to him during christmas back in 93 or 94 in belfast after i walked past him, but Im autistic and was too shy at 10 years old to say anything.
Hahahah, in hindsight he sounds exactly like my old boy when I was growing up in the 80-90's. He grew up as a farm boy ,dirt poor in the 50-60's. Hated him as a kid but absolutely love him now, true blue to the core and straight as an arrow. Very community minded. Strike me pink!!!! Ray is a dead set living Aussie legend.
Oh, the memories. I watched H&A from around 1992 to 2000. The first half of that period was peak H&A for me, and Alf was such a big part of it. For some reason "Don't you come the raw prawn with me!" became a bit of a catchphrase among my friends at the time. Pre-internet, but back then H&A was so big in the UK that everyone knew where it came from. :D
I started watching in 1993 until 2010 roughly. 98/99, around the time Ailsa came out of the coma and wanted Alf dead, that was peak time for me, though the older days were just as good. This shows been going almost as long as I've been alive.
If only I had listened. I thought Morag was a perfectly reasonable name in those days. It didn’t occur to me that it might have had sinister intent. If only I had paid attention to all the names - I didn’t realise they reflected personality or character. I thought people were deeper than that. They may be nom de plumes but I didn’t know. And morag is just the worst name imaginable for a woman. And…no wonder because she was a lawyer! All the pieces of the puzzle are coming together at last. Lawyers are among the most corrupt of all the professions, and only marginally topped by Psychiatrists..
Oh my god yes, the Sutherlands were my favourite and from 99 to 04 was when I remembered getting into it I was still only little as I was born in 95 but every morning at 9am on southern cross they would stream the early years and on a sick day I would sit in front of the old fat back telly and watch the episode with my bowl of frootloops but the Sutherland’s was where I really started to get into the show I wanna see more of the episodes from 00 to 05 I wanna watch the episode where Ailsa dies because I can’t find the full episode anywhere, and the 99 landslide that had Kirsty trapped near Alf’s I think and the Mirgini disaster and Kane Kirsty and Shelly get stranded on the island and Kane gets bitten by a snake trying to save Shelly and oh my god Martin Dingle Wall the original Dr Flynn Saunders then they fucked up and changed him to Joel Mcilroy and then after Flynn was killed off We find out Joel was an alcoholic and would blow up on set I can’t be the only one who remembers Hayley and Brodie’s car crash in little piggy or whatever the buggy was called correct me if I’m wrong oh and the final episode of 04 when Seb and Jade leave after the car crash cliff plunge because of Duncan oh my god they were some of the best years and Sarah Lewis the Summer Bay stalker and then a year after her death and Eve turns up out for revenge for her Sarah
@@SummerBayJournal yes Alf could really lose his head very easily when he was provoked. However, when you get to know the character of Alf you realise that deep down he is a very nice bloke and if there was a rescue or an accident in the bay, Alf would be the first one out there to help out. Ray did a great job on playing him and still Does.
Can't say I watched Home & Away, but for some reason I knew of Alf's " flaming galah " expression, its no internet thing either, U.K in the 1980's there was no internet, didn't arrive until circa 1995. Ray Meagher aka Alf Stewart is a soap box legend born 4th July 1944 he's 76 now & still acting.
Home And Away is popular or was popular in the UK, I don't watch it anymore though. As a kid growing up Alf was always me favourite. Maybe because he was real, didn't sugarcoat anything and let out his anger rather than suppress it. His one liners, rants and the non stop flaming were epic, I used to get goose bumps watching him go mentalist lol
Love a good Alf rant- sadly after Alisa was killed off they seemed to become much more of a rare sight. pity because Alf vs Irene at times (with Alisa as a mediator) was beyond funny
Stone the crows. Looks like Alf held up this show for years with his riskay acting. I think we’ve all had a bit Alf in our life to put us on the straight and narrow. He goes into character so so well. I often wonder what sort of up bringing he had. I’m sure he has a book out there..
SummerBayJournal-Home and Away The Early Years watched Home and away throughout the 1990's I think the last time I watched it was when Ailsa died, my favourite Alf moment was when he hit Fisher in front of all the students back in 1995. My favourite characters in the 1990's were Selina Shane Angel and Chloe, A friend told me Home and Away has lost its family values storylines now.
Yes I liked Shane and Angel and Shannon and Damien and Liam and Casey etc etc. man, all of those actors will all be approaching their 50s soon. They were teens back then.
Legendary, you even got the 'cheap lush' line he smashed Irene with when he caught Sarah playing stink finger with her crim son and Ailsa's; 'I'm at more rags (please I'm bleeding to death)'and even a couple of his 'flamin' gutfuls' too as well as his rant after Shane and Damo bukkaked him. Hilarious compilation.
Haha forgot how good of a character Alf was. I watched it from when it started in the UK 87 or 88? Probably watched until late nineties, tried watching the odd one since but it's not like the same show.
Alf's temprement is his experiences in vietnam so he flips off quickly which is something i've seen in a good friend of mine who served in iraq and Afghanistan and he was never the same when he came back, and my friend was calm before he went to fight
Excuse Joseph Xuereb but your 'temprement' should be temperament. If your spell check was on, a wiggly red line would appear. I take your point about violent pass experiences. In 1999 I was cycling when I was hit off my bicycle, the ambulance took over two hours to find me? I had a serious head injury, my skull was visible through the cut, both eyes black. Didn't even know my family when they visited. I was sensitive to light, loud noises & my quick fire temper was off the scale. The joys of psychological trauma, things much better now though.
I've been looking for that scene where he loses it after having a brain tumor thinking that his wife Ailsa is still alive in 2002. As part of it, he lets out a big "Shut Up!" I'd really like to see it again.
Isn't Ray Meagher brilliant?
Ray Meagher is a true Aussie icon :)
I love the channel name change
He's flamin' great.
Love the end clip 😂
You flaming gallah
"Now you listen to me you little piece of carpet fluff" 😂😂😂
That line never gets old!
I lost it at that one too hahaha, the bloke is a national treasure 😂
🤣🤣🤣
next level savage.
Does Alf have a mental health disorder?
Kids today will never know.... 😂 Every kid in the 80/90s had an uncle just like Alf 😂😂😂
Did they really?
He's definitely the kind of guy you'd want to prank, and then get caught just to see him totally lose it.
Haha so true
His pissed off face should be on the Australian five dollar note.
Yes and or even a stamp 😅
Nah on the hunjie with Dr Harry.
Monash and Melba wouldn't mind.
Alf is so unapologetically Australian.......i love it 😂😂😂
Massive respect to the persons who took the time to put all this together, Alf is a legend 🤣👌

"You pair of flamin' galahs!!" 😂
Ray Meagher is such a brilliant actor and Alf Stewart is such an iconic Home & Away character :)
The home and away legend
Absolute brilliant. He’s like an Aussie Victor Meldrew. One of the best TV characters ever 😄😄

Ray Meagher is the king of home and away in my opinion he is the best character in the whole series, it will never be the same if he leaves.
I think he is the only original cast member of Home & Away now 🙂

the best one!
Wish they kept it going, where Alf drops him!!
Bunking off school in the 80s watching H&A, Alf was in it then, day off work today, switched on the TV, he's still in it.. Bloody brilliant actor.
Alf Stewart as Aussie as they come and The King of Summer Bay ❤️
He's more of a Queenslander than he is an Aussie
Such a wonderful, hospitable man.

A lovely six minutes worth of Alf in a good mood.
Met Ray a few years ago. Couldn’t have been any nicer.
Man just needs a spliff, cup of tea and a hug lol
Gives "stone the flaming crows" a new meaning.
Alf's to displined for spliff
The world needs Alf more than ever
Alf was just a star over the years
It’s so funny seeing them all in a row. Such a character . Great actor and character
I never get sick of this always funny 🤣😂😆
Absolutely fantastic acting, nobody could pull off all of these rants as good as Ray 😁👍🏻
I absolutely love Alf on Home and Away Ray is a absolutely Legend of character

I’d like to know how much Ray (Alf) had to rehearse the “carpet fluff” Scene with out laughing
I’m pretty sure he wrote such lines himself. Think I read that somewhere. Still be tough to hold in the laugh though 😂
One clip in and i am already loving this!
Ray Meagher and his character are both true blue Aussie. Firm and assertive, yet fair, and honest.and a gentleman at heart.
He gave a good rant in the caravan park in recent years - kicked some protesters off. I can’t remember what it was about, but it was prime Alf Stewart
