    MB, I model NS in HO scale, but "Ain't nothing like the real thang baby" and you bring it so superbly. Thanks for all you do!!

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I also model HO, but no specific railroad. I agree, but a model is a model and cannot be as real as the "real thing". On the other hand, I wonder sometimes how "model railroad-like" the real thing looks like from the distance!

    Seems odd seeing those Dash-9s running hood end first. You'd think the radiators would mean that the view was very very restricted.

    model trains are facinating once all the elements are in place. Real trains are simply amazing due the physics at work. The super detail elements can be found in your videos.

      I entirely agree! That's why I like both railfanning and modeling.

    The engine that I like I believe it is called 70ac. The engines have huge radiators located at the rear of the locomotive.

    THE THING IS THE RAIL ROAD WILL LEVEL OUT FOR A SHORT WAY THEN BACK TO THE UP AND DOWN UP AND DOWN THEN FOR A SHORT DISTANCE.

    What is the difference between the locomotives at 3:32 with 3 tanks, and locomotives at 4:37 one big tank? Thanks.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since in this sequence you can see the lead engine from both sides you notice that they all look the same: on one side tanks for compressed air, on the other for fuel. Which you see from the side just depends on the forward or backward orientation of the engine.

  • @rokk706

    Hey buddy thx for all the uploads you do the info I learn from here is astounding. I'm from Augusta,Ga and I model Norfolk Southern in N scale. My model railroad runs from Andrews yard in Columbia,Sc through Augusta on to Brosnan in Macon. Do you happen to have any local set outs and pick up videos.

      @mbmars01  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very nice, thank you! Well, there are a couple of switching videos on my channel, but more on the CSX Abbeville sub. Of course, I have no yard access and therefore no videos from inside a yard.

  • @Nicola636128
    @Nicola636128 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! Nice start with two SD40-2 and two sets of slugs.
    But those slugs give help as power for SD40-2? And how? electric motors or batteries?
    Or is it more weight you must pull the SD40-2?

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Slugs are just like locomotives without a cab, i.e., without any own equipment that would allow to control them. That's why they always need to be connected to a lead unit (here the SD40-2). But they have their own diesel power and electric traction motors on their trucks. Of course, the idea is to increase the horsepower in a cheap way without "wasting" another potential road engine.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a wheel tractor-scraper by Caterpillar, model 631K, used for earth moving in mines or construction.

      See my response to zippa.way above. I agree, long-hood forward looks great.

  • @JOINTBAW
    @JOINTBAW 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    why do they run long hood forward alot?

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, it's fifty-fifty: These are single-engine local trains. If they go out of the yard to switch a nearby industry, they point in one direction; upon return into the other. There are typically no turntables in the industrial areas.

      Well, all single-engine local trains run LHF either yard-inbound or yard-outbound. I have seen this also on the CSX Abbeville Sub.
