It's always strage to me how ben loves to take care of the aesthetics of his projects and the graphic design and shape appeal and whatnot, but just couldn't give half a shit about the surface finish of his 3d prints.
His printers always run super fast. I don’t get it. For small prints it doesn’t even save time. If he ran the print at 30% lower speed, he would get better print quality. I would also sand and polish the button surfaces.

I wrecked my Moqi Snail i7s a couple years back... It gathered dust until now. But I had literally no idea how to even open it up. This video helped an absolute shit tonne ;) Loved your suuuuper nerdy quirks throughout haha.. My actual problem was a malfunctioning touchscreen... Which made navigating any roms etc to be next to impossible. I pulled it all apart. (Which is something I thought of during your informative but fun video!) Worked a fkn treat! Back to emulation on this beast!!! Side note I also have a 3D printer... Liquid resin MLA though... But I may even give your alternate Dpad a go in the not so distant future. Cheers mate!!!
I have one of these. My D pad does not have this problem but I just got mine. Maybe they fixed it in the later revisions. It's a great gaming device. Loved the video!
Amazing 3D printer you have there! Nice fix to the "mochi". A very interesting looking device, considering what it can emulate. One last thing... I can see that you've played Super Contra The Alien Wars a few times in the past... A great game indeed. Cheers!
I found the only good reason why the heatbed heats up first: I set up an indicator on my bed and tracked the warpage, it warps the most as it's being heated up, then it takes 1-2 minutes to settle, just enough time for the nozzle to heat up. But I usually preheat the nozzle in OctoPrint and keep it almost up to temp. Most of the times I also keep the bed hot as I'm designing the parts. Same for the printer.
I think I would've ground down the back of the real dpad and glued a little 3d printed piece to it that fixed the issues. That would've kept it pretty!
Really amazing work Ben! For anyone who has never heard of the Moqi i7s, it’s basically the most powerful dedicated android gaming handheld on the market. It’s an awesome device.
The reason they dont heat bed and nozzle at the same time is because the weak PSU's included with most cheap printers cant output enough voltage to heat both at once. So they work around this by getting one to temp and then pulse alternating to maintain that while the nozzle heats. The original monoprice mini was actually notorious for never printing if you set the bed temp to high because even with the alternating the weak included laptop PSU couldn't keep up. Modded printers with decent replacement PSU's obviously don't have this problem.
Loved Bens "Batman"reference "you have to understand, the nerves were completely severed !" I will be thinking of that movie while I'm playing my Hyperkin Supaboy S Later tonight,,
