I like a lot of what Presfield is saying but cannot agree on his premise. The Greeks were fine warriors sure, some of them but it was the ROMANS who conquered them. Mr. Presfield completely dismisses the Romans but they literally justified conquest and war because of their religion. The God Mars is the God of war. The very words "Martial arts"mean "Art of Mars" and war was to honor Mars. An experienced Roman veteran would be a harded warrior in his own right. During The Imperial Age of Rome a legionaire would serve for 20-25 years in the legion. The Greeks had nothing as sophisticated in war to even compare. When Rome invaded Greece the Greeks quickly realized they were outmatched and had great respect for the Romans as they had a lot in common and didn't wish to continue fighting.
So this guy likes the idea of a God who isn't perfect an man made rather than God Almighty. I can't listen to anything he says anymore... Very ignorant.
