Afterimage is the best of this list, the game still has so many loose ends which gives us the hope for a big updade with new maps, quests and hopefully new talents and abilitys and so on. I would pay for a big dlc.
Afterimage is so good! The bosses are challenging. Maps are beautiful. There are so many weapons and skills for different playstyle. Definitely worth playing! I would say it is easily stay in my top3 list!
Blasphemous II is easily the best metroidvania released since ori and the will of the wisps. It's a masterpiece just like its predecessor. Last faith, 9 years of shadows and afterimage are all great as well. Curse of the sea rats, kingdom shell and last case of benedict fox are super underrated titles too
6:18 People who say 3D games, first or third person cannot be MV have absolutely no clue what defines the genre. It's definitely not the art style or presentation.
@@armyofninjas9055 Is that your argument, that the earlier games the genre was named after weren't 3D? What made these games what we call MV today? What are their core mechanisms? It's not the platfoming, it's not the shooting and whipping, and it's definitely not the 2D side-scrolling perspective. Exactly, it's the exploration of an interconnected world where you find new abilities that extend the way you can traverse that world and allow you to reach new, previously closed off areas. And now tell me how this is not possible in 3D?
Thats a thing a Lot of people don't realize ,they think metroidvania it's just a copy paste of symhony of the night or súper metroid, when Even those two had so much difference in their mechanics, feeling and overall presentation that You perfectly can like one and don't care for The other @@MeDjezze
@@armyofninjas9055 you're wrong, there are mv 3d games, for example the first Darksiders...basically every game where you learn new ability that lets you explore more and gives you access to previously unreachable locations are mv... Maybe study before saying nonsense
Sad so many of these games are only for PC. PC gamers encompass a vast variety of players. But mostly MMO and multiplayer type games All of these games could be handled by the switch and the fan base for this type of Gameplay metroidvania. Has ALWAYS been handheld players. Sad that game developers don’t know their audiences and where they can actually make the most money
Like your top 5, for me though i would take Blasphemous of the first place and move all the games by one spot up. Blasphemous 2 was boringly bad and unlike first game super linear, it made it plainly clear that the game was released too fast just to cash in on the first games popularity. More weapons did not help, instead made the game worse, killing the balance and make 2 weapons useless 99% of the time anyway. Also id probably add Flip Witch in 5th place, though for it being an adult game you would probably have a hard time talking about it on youtube.
@@RamanK2007 Sure rage boy go mald some more. The game took me close to 15 hours to beat 50% less time than the first game, lack of content and bad balancing into linear gameplay which is the opposite spectrum of what the first game shown us with open progression and great balancing. But you cant even discuss things without being a dogshit person who attacks others cause you dont agree with their opinion.

Elderand is so underrated! Top 5 easily.
Blaphemous 2 and Pseudoregalia are the only games on this list that I would recommend this year
Last faith and blasphemous, 2 amazing games!
Nice solid MV list. Good to see my favorites placing high
Afterimage was metroidvania goty for me, an amazing game, though the story was a bit gibberish
I know Cookie Cutter is on the last place, but i'm just glad to see it be mentioned. Solid first title by the devs.

2d vs 3d isn't "presentation." It's also gameplay. Neither metroid nor castlevania are 3d games.

I knew you weren't going to put Afterimage over Blasphemous 2...but I was hoping! (Haven't played B2 yet, but I wasn't fond of the original.)
