    Very clear and simple explanations. I've been designing optical front ends for a while and wanted a better way to explain things.
    Fantastic video.

    Hi friend. Do you have any information for the distance of activity of this infrared diode.

    Great Photo-diode info, would the opto-isolator Vishay IL300 or HCNR200 work as an linear bipolar amplifier (+/-) 0 to10 vdc with the LM741? thanks.

      ooops that should be IL300 Vishay linear optocoupler isolator thanks

    At about timestamp 5:00 you mentioned "PIN" diode. Do you know what these initals stand for? I never found out, although I hsve used them for years.
    OUTSTANDING VIDEO!!!

      A PIN diode refers to the way the divice is doped. See www.electrical4u.com/p-i-n-photodiode-avalanche-photo-diode/

    Hey great video, i have an issue the reverse bias voltage +12 v is in reference to the ground of the op amp ? Cause i use two different voltage to supply for my pd and for the op amp, thx

      @LewisLoflin  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure you can not sure how. The resistors will have to be changed.

    Incredible video. Is there a problem if the LM741 is supply with o to 12V? I am not sure how to get -12 V from my voltage regulator circuit.

      It would be easier to use a LM358.

    Great video.
    So now can we say that the photodiode voltage is proportional to light intensity?
    And if I don't use the amplifier will the photodiode voltage and light intensity curve will be a straight line?

    • @LewisLoflin
      @LewisLoflin  ปีที่แล้ว

      You need the amplifier.

    what LEDs have you used, what are the specifications of LED and photo diode?

    • @LewisLoflin
      @LewisLoflin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were white 1 watt LEDs. I ran them I think at 400mA.

    • @LewisLoflin
      @LewisLoflin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      NTE3033 and the LEDs are generic.

    when we connect the photodiode to the op-amp
    how is that a reverse bias connection ? in 2:35 and 6:50 how did it work when it's cathode is not connected to +ve supply ?

    • @LewisLoflin
      @LewisLoflin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There was a positive voltage feedback through the output resistor. Also the photo diode can generate a small voltage like a solar cell.

  • @Enigma758

    Do you see any reason not to use a comparator as opposed to an op-amp?

    • @LewisLoflin
      @LewisLoflin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The amp is needed to boost the current which is very small.

    Great video. I am using LM324. How can i connect an arduino in the analog inputs so it can read the voltage? thank you

    • @LewisLoflin
      @LewisLoflin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as the output voltage does not exceed 5V.
