Hi, I’m 28 and in the hospital now and will be having this surgery in about 3 hours. I have numbness in my legs and praying the feeling comes back. Prayers please. Your attitude makes me feel less scared. Thank you 😊
Today is post op Day 3 and I’m so glad I had this surgery done! The pain from sciatica in my hip, butt and leg that was excruciating for 3 months is completely gone! The pain of the incision and surgery is tolerable. I had a severe overdose reaction to the hydromorophone so I am only taking Tylenol and I’m managing just fine. I would recommend this surgery to anyone who is suffering with sciatica!
I am 2 weeks post ok from laminectomy and spinal cord stimulator implant. The surgery procedure is brutal and the pain from it is horrific!!! I am ok now, thanks to nice pavks!!! Wow! I am so much better now. Still 4 weeks more of restrictions but I'm going to make it!!
Everyone has a unique experience. I had a L4/L5 laminectomy two days ago. I took Tylenol #3 one time on day one, and only a single dose of ibuprofen since. My numbness is completely gone. I do have an achy back at the surgical site, but expected that. Bowel activity has returned to normal. Overall, I am a very happy patient.
I had this surgery back in 2008 it left me with a mild spinal cord injury, however, I got OFF ALL painkillers after and it's been almost 15 years and I belly dance and walk daily. I send you massive love for sharing this as it is not an easy surgery.
I had this surgery two weeks ago yesterday and I have to say it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I have had such an easy recovery that my husband and friends have had to yell at me to STOP BENDING! STOP TWISTING! or you’ll hurt yourself. My dr even said no BLT for 4 more weeks and no walking my 60 pound boxer and I wrestle with myself to not completely clean my house! Lol 😮
I just had my surgery on the 11th and my only regret is not having done it sooner. I have the same results my nerve pain seemed to have just been turned off immediately after surgery. The only pain of any substance I can say is my surgical site. So I am extremely optimistic to getting my life back. Congratulations on your surgery and have a healthy and speedy recovery.
Your video was an absolute relief. I came here to search for someone who’s been through this already because, I will be scheduling mine soon and have been super concerned. Your video was full of useful advise and comedic relief, thank you I needed this.
I had a laminectomy and a discectomy the pain wasn’t bad more sore from the surgery then pain… it did solve the unbearable pain I had from a herniation. Also after about 3 weeks the soreness is gone 😁 still left with saddle anesthesia, and incontinence but 1 month post op hopeful for full recovery 😊
I had this procedure 27 years ago. The surgeon did a great job because I had full function of everything afterward. I could backpack with 45 lbs on my back gain -kayak, Mt Bike, Climb and hike --you name it, I was doing it. And then 5 Months ago-2024-I was cleaning out of my garage one spring morning and everything was great. I was loading up the back of my truck with some light trash to take to the dump and the next day,I woke up in terrible pain and I was down with rest for a few weeks. I was shocked! I hadn’t had a back issue in 26 plus years since my surgery. What happened? So I rehabbed myself back to doing most everything again and all was good for 5 months until one day -it went out again and this time, it was 10 worse than anything I’ve experienced. After a MRI, I am now placed in the severe category. I haven’t been able to walk that much for 5 weeks now -however, latley, it seems to be settling down. This sciatica nerve is new to me now. I have had back pain but nothing like this -this was tortuous for over 3 weeks of acute pain. They want to do an injection to see if they can reduce the inflammation at L5 s1. If I can get out of all this with just an injection and serious PT-I am going 100% in and will radically change how I workout my core. I am not giving in to surgery unless I have to-
Thank you for giving me hope! Your video has made my day! I have had 2 cancellations of Lamenectomy and discectomy- 3 levels. Life for me is horrible, with extreme pain and all of the meds! You are inspirational for me. Best of luck!! And thanks again!
I am 66 years old and just had a 5 level laminectomies, 5 level bilateral facetectomies, and 5 bilateral foraminostomies. My incision is 7-8 inches long. I thought I was going to die the first week. I ended up staying in hospital for 2 days, then rehab for another 7 days, I am now almost 4 weeks out. Still having incision pain and trouble standing up and sitting down. My sciatica is better, but my recovery is going to take up to a year.
Hi. How did surgery go? I’m in so much pain the doctor wants to give me an epidural first but honestly I wasn’t surgery, I’m over this pain it hurts so much
Excellent video! Today is post op day 16 for me after multi-level (L2 through 5 and S1) laminectomy and one microdisectomy. I had a 6 inch incision with 22 staples. I too am a "Friend of Bill's" but they had no problem properly treating my post op pain with IV Dilaudid and Ocycodone orally, switching between the two every two hours. It still hurt like hell to get out of bed but it was tolerable. I was in hospital for four days. I came off all opiate pain killers after 6 days and did have to suffer through one day of irritability, mood swings and fatigue. After that no problems and all pain was controlled with the Ibuprofen/Tylenol combination. Bottom line is that I feel great after two weeks, have no pain, and I am going back to normal activities. Yes, the incision is uncomfortable, it feels tight and I need to think through bending, twisting and lifting until I fully recover. I am so glad I had it done.
I just had the surgery on March 27th. The first day was good, but every day since then, when I got home, has been hell. The sciatica is worse now than before the surgery. I am in excruciating pain. I am taking pain pills, but it isn't touching the pain. I just walked 10 minutes for the first time since the surgery, but it was so difficult and rewarding. I am going to get up every hour and walk. I scared my family by screaming when I got up to walk. I am over this and will be glad when the sciatica is gone. I was told it would be difficult, because my nerves would be recovering from the stenosis, but I didn't think it would be this hard.
Oh my gosh, your pain resonates with my experience of a pinched nerve. Excruciating pain. That’s why my orthopedic doctor said I need surgery. How are you now? Can you share your journey? I’m so sorry for your pain and recovery experience. I do hope you’re feeling better. Of course, to the TH-camr…thank you for posting your story. It really helps the rest of us insights. I hope everyone is doing better now. ❤
I'm glad it worked for you and others. My surgery made my pain 10x worse. It's excruciating and my anxiety is up the roof. I lost hope for relieve. Now the doctor put me on a neuropathic pain medication, Gabapentin and scheduled me for epidural injections. The surgery recovery was extremely hard since I only experienced some relief during days 4 to 12. After day 12, all went downhill and the pain was and still is unbearable. I followed the doctor's instructions to a t and had the very best care from my loving and caring sister. There's only so much pain that you can take and I'm desperate at this point.
Lizzette Cruz I’m a MA at a pain management office, I’m not the doc or a nurse, but u can maybe ask a doctor possibly consider a spinal cord stimulator. There is a weak trial, if it works u can go in for the permanent. I have seen it completely change people’s lives. Just a suggestion
Lissette, Cruz, sorry for the terrible mistreatment of your care and your suffering of terrible pain. Only those of us can say the pain we feel thru back crushing sciatica nerve pain, what it feels like. I have L5 and L4 that are pressing against the sciatica nerve causing untold pain. It's a living hell. For a while I was taking Embeda with the >> [ Naltrexone hydrochloride in it but, it comes in 50 mg. ] It stopped the sciatica nerve pain from occurring that often and I could actually walk without pain for awhile but, they took it off the market because it was a 12 hr pain control and it worked really well. Those devils are stopping at nothing to keep us in pain. The ingredients in the embeda did help alot. Plus the good 2 muscle relaxers and the yellow tiny pill is to reduce inflammation and it helps me sleep, let me know if want the names of them. I mentioned the other ingredient that helped alot with the sciatica nerve pain in the above opening commet too, You should try to get your primary doctor to prescribe it for you. I am almost sure it will take 65% percent of your pain away. You and anybody in pain should ask their primary doctor to precribe it.. See if maybe it will help you>> plus lavander oils with other oils aide in the taking of the pain away too. The Natra>> is not a narcotic either but, helps greatly. I need pain pills meds and the above ingredient to help me walk with no pain. But, many pain clinics are taking patients off their pain meds and are black listing unruling patients. So to not to treat them. They just want to give us steriod injections that don't work!!! I believe the Evil Elite are behind these new pain clinics. The elite know one day soon we will get hit with an astroid or 2 and tons of meteriotes weighing 70 lbs. We are living in the end of days as we know it. Read your bible, it says it very clear. "When the fruit tree buds than the end of days have come" It's talking about when Isreal became a nation in 1948 and that generation born will not pass away before we also see the reversal of the earth's poleswift too, caused by the incoming binary solar system of Nibrui. Which is occurring right now. Than when all that happens plus other disasters we will see an increase of people being removed about 95% percent of the Earth's population will be gone thru rapture and being killed from the oncoming slaughter of the dieasters headed our way. Why do you think the movie theaters are showing the end of days movies because the Elites are too to cowards to let the human population know we are headed to a great disasters. Plus The goven officials, think we are contributing to the illegal med abuse and are coming down hard on us patients>>> who only want the pain to stop in our bodies. But, they don't care one day I hope they will learn how much pain we are in. So they can learn it's not easy suffering for this long. I was born with a leg deformity and not even because of that>> do they don't consider how awful it feels to get around in with crutches and walk with unforgiving pain. . One day I hope I will be comfort and the gnoonies in governments will feel our pain(>> because it's them that are calling for the medical doctors to takes us off our pain meds and on top of that >>> I have cervical neck pain. It not easy at all to have numberous of different surgeries thru out my child years to adult yrs. From having several legs surgeries to gall bladder removal to having the removal of a large size brain tumor removed, that took two surgeries and 4 yrs apart to finally getting the latter brain tumor out of the brain. I was borm with it. So say the doctors that think it caused my under develop left leg not to grow normal. I struggle alot to get around. I will be very very happy when I die and nolonger have to indure so much phys. pain esp the killer sciatica nerve pain. It like living in hell>> it's so painful. Well I hope you convince your primary doctor to give u the above suggestion. It's not a narcotic but, it does bring down the swelling. I don't trust those devil pain clinic medical staff to ask them for the scribe. They're hearts are as cold as ice. One day they will realize they caused alot of people that might take their life because unbearable pain from nerve compression. I would consider back surgery but, after numberous times of having different surgeries. I AM hesitate too, esp because I have dead atropy muscles on the lower leftside. That worrys me if I will be able to move around again. Plus it takes twice as long for me to recover than most people. I need help and prayer but, please ask your primary for the added med to Embeda, it also takes away desires of wanting any other habit forming addiction. Not that We have those habits but, once in a long awhile I do have a drink or two. It's not easy living in this cursed body full of problems. I raised 2 children and did manage to be employed 10 yrs before the brain tumor was discovered and causes me violent body seizures. I was coming out of the second job and I slipped and hit my head. That was how the doctor found out I had a tumor in the brain. Well I will pray for you to get better and please to so for me. I plan to go to my primary doctor and ask her to prescribe the non narcotic med and anyone in pain should too. Take care
I was doing great after my first surgery but 2 weeks later I needed a 2nd emergency laminectomy surgery. I can't do anything without extreme pain. I'm 6 weeks post op from the 2nd surgery. I'm too young to be immobile.
Just 6 months ago I had cervical spine surgery with stainless steel implants and was on a morphine pump to adjust my pain as needed...May 7,2019,I had major laminectomy surgery, I was given pain meds in hospital and 2 kinds to use at home,1 was opioids, which I weaned myself off after 3 weeks..Still recovering, had 24 staples incision
I had the same surgery 3 weeks ago. I can walk now without pain. How are you today? And are you able to do physical activities like running and using weights at the gym ?
I can relate! I had three back surgeries at age 12. Now, at 60 years old, I’m looking at another back surgery for disc herniation and spinal stenosis. I’ve been putting it off but I’m tired of the pain and walking like I’m 2000 years old. The downside, as I was planning the final surgery consultation, the medical folks discovered that my thyroid is out of whack and overactive. So, I can’t do anything about my back until I get the thyroid stuff fixed. I had an ultrasound and scan before Christmas and a biopsy on 1/17/20 waiting for the results.
Thanks. I’m hanging in! Since my post two months ago, I’ve had a total thyroidectomy for papillary thyroid cancer and will be having radioactive iodine treatment during the week of April 13th to eradicate any remaining cancer cells. I’m healing well and look forward to getting this journey completed so I can finally get my back fixed (hopefully). The bizarre thing about my type of thyroid cancer is that there is absolutely no pain at all. Although I’m taking care of the thyroid stuff, I’m also gingerly walking around with my old back. It all a journey and I look forward to it being completed and getting out of the stay at home order in Ohio! Thanks again got the supportive words!
Day 4 of post op decompression and OMG the pain was almost unbearable. I’m now on oxycodone and anti-inflammatories and can now walk to the loo without crying in pain 👍🏼🇬🇧
I'm having a L-3 Laminectomy done in two weeks. I am scare but I have a great surgeon. What I am scare of is the bleeding, I have a unknown bleeding disorder,, it was hemophilia A (yes, I am a female and females can have it) now it is unknown. My hematologist is giving orders what to do but it is still scary. I have been in so much pain, can't walk due to numbness and pain, when it hits you stop..You have help me so much in understanding this surgery, the doctor has but when it is someone who has had it the surgery,, it is better. New me coming, can't wait.
You mentioned worst pain ever. I am 2 years post my laminectomy surgery and I can back you up 100% on this It is definitely the worst pain you will ever deal with. Nothing compares.... My wife made the quip that it can't be worse than child birth and I can assure you it is. Child birth has a finite timeline and at the end of it all you will have a little present. With a back injury like this without surgery to eliminate the impingement, the suffering and torment is infinite. I called it riding the lightning. Because it felt like I was always getting electrically shocked down my leg and in my lower back. Back spasms and very measured movements were part of my day to day routine. If you've never had something like this happen to you please pray it never will. I had a badly ruptured L5-S1 that was causing a 90% impingement of the root nerve. Initially my surgery was to be a discectomy only. Once I was in the O.R. my surgeon realized that in order to fully relieve the pressure on the root nerve he was also going to have to perform a laminectomy as well resulting in a 4 inch scar on my back. In my case my incision really didn't hurt, it itched alot LOL. I was terribly terribly stiff though. Felt like I was going to break in half. That and I had some significant balance issues trying to walk at first, but I suspect that was residual from the time leading up to the injury. My injury went undiagnosed and untreated for way way too long. Looking back I should have had the surgery 2 years before I did. My surgeon didn't want to operate on somebody my age (I was 38 at the time of my surgery) so he tried a number of things such as PT and such which had no real benefit. The rupture of the disc was obvious during my first MRIs at the age of 36, but for whatever reason he didn't want to operate. My surgeon finally relented when I blew the rest of the disc out and in the process loosing the ability to use the majority of my lower right side effectively. I was at best relegated to using a cane to walk and at worst wheel chair bound.
jayss10 how are you today? I’m praying for your healing. My 24 yr old son had this situation and finally after surgery his pain level is reduced to bearable. It is the most helpless feeling to not be able to help with that kind of pain. Nothing works. Best of luck to you!
Week 3 after my surgery...My tips would be to ask for meds, to ease the pain and sleep better. Master the roll in and out of bed. Eat healthy and drink plenty of water.. Get a TV in your room and buy your favourite TV Series to watch. I find reading difficult at this stage. Get up frequently walk 10 min at a time. Have soft padding like sheep skin, that you can sleep on, as the wound is VERY VERY SENSITIVE. Get a long object to help you to pick up items like clothing. Buy a soft firm brace, creates confidence and stability during walking.. Have a shower not a bath. Buy a non slip shower mat. Worth gold, is an elevated toilet seat that you can easily clip on. Not an easy operation, but pain becomes less everyday. GOOD LUCK😊😊😊😊😊
I lived in back pain for so long that I had no idea what normal life was. I gave my girlfriend at the time (now wife) 2 good years, out of the 8 years we have been together. I had herniated (some portion) of 2 discs in July of 2012, but it was only treated by the doctors (even the E.R.) , as just a pinched nerve. They gave me EVERYTHING they had and yet didn't / couldn't touch my pain...not even take the edge off. Numerous medical professionals and my finanaces told me that I should just give it time. Since the business that I was working for (for only 4 months), had a willingness to pay me 40 hrs a week while I was off, all while he still covered the deduction like insurance premiums and all that....as long as it wasn't a BWC case. Looked good to me in the short run.. [Got hurt while working, was scared I'd lose my job since I was new and couldn't come to work for an entire month, but instead he's going to pay me 40hrs a week.] After I had only shelled out $200 max in med. bills...It seemed like this guy must "Really like me to do this. "... Making good money and paying my taxes while playing Xbox. FAST FORWARD 1 YEAR I wasn't ready for myself to notice my left leg muscles are all small and won't flex.. My P.C.P. called for m.r.i. (ASAP) and 9 days afterwards his friend the orthopedic surgeon did double discectomy and double laminectomy. I felt amazing for the next 11 months from the moment I woke up. He released me ri work despite me telling him I mainly install commercial glass as being a glazier. He released me to work full duty 3 months later and yet told me to lift smartand not to grab "the 8th bag of groceries." . Wife and I got married Oct. 25th 2018 and 7 days into our honeymoon my left leg turned to stone. We came home and i made an appointment with my same orthopedic surgeon. Another emergency m.r.i. and immidiate double discectomy and double laminectomy. SAME 2 DISCS HE TOOK FROM 11 MONTHS EARLIER!!!! I posed it like I was joking but I told him that " I still have the original reciepts and wondered if this was under warranty?" He didn't seem to like me anymore. Lol! True though. From the moment I woke from that 2nd surgery, I've wanted to die. I don't do suicide, but prayed to die. Pain like I listed an hour ago... ha! FAST FORWARD 6 YEARS...: 23 days ago I had a neurosurgeon, whom I got to know very well first. He wasn't fast to cut into me. He reminded me that I was young and in great shape. I had E.S.I. (epidural steroid injection) I tried all the exercises, tens units, wraps, creams, over the counter, and over the border drugs. Nothing helped quite like getting drunk....daily......in front of your friends and wife. Some times I guess it was pretty embarrassing (they tell me)... Years of pain, hating life other than my wife, and being a turd of an example of a man at home, while I take advantage of my wife's good nature and patience. The moment I woke up from my fusion of the L4-L5 / L5-S1 with hardware, 33 staples, interior sutures, a hose out of my back, and "peter".........I FELT LIKE I WAS THE GUY MY WIFE MARRIED AGAIN. Sure, because of one fraudulent business owners actions it's cost me $13-15k of end result out of pocket cost (including this surgery), I quit that place 4/30/10 due to the cancerous relationship that working for a man who owes you money can create. My wife and I still haven't been able to make the next steps after our marriage due to my pain for 5 years and finances. Check me out though. I may be the SUPER DUPER BEST SPINAL FUSION RECOVERY CASE EVER!!!! GOD blesa anyone who lives with any kind of pain. You can slowly make money back, but not those wasted years...Hell, a "well known" BWC attorney talked to me for over an hour and he was like, "You're gonna be rich!" All of the sudden I'm his TOP priority.. I get my hopes up and he calls me like 18 days, and lots of my texts / calls / VM's later and sad he spoke to several people he knew and the case would be dead in the water due to statute of limitations and yada-yada. I left it at that and now even though my wife and I haven't had that extra $$$ we've had to rent for 6 years at $500 more a month than the mortgage would've been..... okay.....I'm done......God bless!
Wow! What a story! I’m just glad to hear you are doing better...i think your case is a prime example of why getting 2nd opinions and hearing from different dr’s is important!
my wife has been in hospitals for 13 days now. 3 days in the icu. 7 days in the regular hospital. now in rehab. the dura had a "pinhole" break during surgery. surgeon said he had to "chisel" out the inside of the vertebrae. she's on 60mg a day of oxycodone + morphine + dilaudid + gamupentin. now she can slowly walk with a walker. can use the toilet but can't reach to wipe herself. (some nurses refuse to help her). she has mentioned suicide as her pain is so bad and her progress so slow. i don't see her future ever being as good as pre-surgery. she went from dynamo to cripple.
How long were you in the hospital for afterwards? Also were you put under? Because I know some people just get numbed but are awake for the whole procedure. Im 16 and have been struggling with the same thing for 2 years. I think I'm having this surgery soon so I'm really nervous but your videos really make me feel better about the whole situation. I'd appreciate any tips. Thankyou!
This argument is not for comedians or buffoons. It is for knowledgeable people who take laminectomy as a serious argument, not for those who need a chuckle.
Very good! I just had my microdiscetomy yesterday and today a lot of pain! Your video is hilarious, made me feel better except it hurt to laugh but couldn’t help it! Thanks for sharing!
I had an emergency hemilaminectomy discectomy; I'm 3 days out my left foot and leg are totally numb, with some right inner leg big toe numbness as well. Dr says nerve recovery solely depends on how long & how severely the nerve root was impinged, they cannot fix nerves. My left side just feels like bee stings, that asleep feeling, all the time. The initial burning shooting pain, totally weakness, & inability to put weight on my left leg/hips, & incontinence are gone, that sent me to the ER. Only the numbness is left, nothing triggered this other than an initial held in sneeze 7.5 years ago and time that made it progressively worse. (DO NOT HOLD IN A SNEEZE) Idk if it's from the drugs but I have a bad headache and I feel a lil cloudy still, I have only taken regular tylenol today. My incision seems pretty painless just some lumbar pressure, felt worse in the hospital bed, walking helped relieve that most, watching comedies, & sponge baths as tolerated (no submersion in water). They pumped me full of fluids so the extra weight didn't help either. I'm using a walker because it's what we already had and PT/OT doesn't want me to favor weight on either side, they want natural walking motion & posture. I am also in my 40s so this is a hard pill to swallow. I'm hoping to feel good and be with my kids again & tending to out home & animals. Please get help around your home like cleaning services and if it's planned definately prep meals so you don't feel detached from daily mommy duties.
I was numb for 7mo but had back pain for 20 yr. My bulges finally went too far and affected my nerves. I had a laminectomy and a reduction of 3 bulges at the same time yesterday.when I woke up I could feel my feet by at least 75% more. The utter pressure and pain in my pelvis was gone. I’m amazed at how much better I feel even one day later. I’m sore and this is painful but it’s a different pain. I’m sore and in pain from the surgical site and the cutting more than the rest. I’m taking LESS pain meds than u did before the surgery which is crazy. Idk why they didn’t give you pain meds. I came out with Percocets for one week but still have my norcos for later that I’ve been on for 20yr. Even if you had a past of drug abuse they should never have sent you home with no meds. That’s crazy.
OMG! After my lumbar laminectomy, I felt like I had been in a fight! The muscle spasms and soreness were on the side of my back that did not have the incision! I've had knee and shoulder surgery before and I always got onto the operating table myself assisted and guided by the operating room staff. For my lumbar lamimectomy I don't even remember being taken to the operating room. I joked with family and friends saying they must have dropped me or something trying to get me on the table.
OMG I told my husband the same thing, honey they must have dropped me a few times. I am now 3 months post op, I have very minor pain. I had a laminectomy and spinal fusion L4-L5. And I am 71 years young. Good luck to you.
omg I joked with my family about the same thing, I ended up having a spinal leak during surgery and had low cerebrospinal fluid which cause incapacitating headaches 48 hours post op. they where orthostatic better with lying flat, other than that mine went great. they did have to go back in s second time to check for leak, they couldn't find, figured it was during surgery. spent a week in the hospital headaches lasted 2 wk, nothing would shake it.
I will have my surgery on Tuesday. Have a herniated disk on L5 L4. Am so nervous but then again I finally can't wait because I am disabled for 7 months and can't normally walk and have every single day pain.
@@RebeccaMeyerToo Hey there. Thanks for asking. I had my surgery on the 23th April and now I'm feeling great. After the op the pain was gone like it never existed. I just had incision pain for 12 days. After physical therapy I had like a strange feeling, like very light pain in my left leg nerve, but the doctor told me it is just the reaction of the nerve and it will disappear in few months because my left leg nerve was irritated and almost completely pinched by the herniated disc for too long. Now I do long walks every day, exercise little every day, slowly try to go back to normal life but I still also have a helping hand with groceries and cleaning the house. On 18th June I have another appointment with my surgeon and will check when will I be able to go back to work. Thanks again for asking.
I can't stop laughing! I had this surgery 2 weeks ago. I was thinking the same thing about the drugs in the hospital. Do they think I am a drug addict? Do they like seeing me in pain? I wish I saw your video earlier!! Thank you!
I just had mine done today and when they asked me to stand and walk... i was dreading to do it... i am like thinking what if it doesnt work for me... however the moment k stood up and have little steps with a straight back... immediately tears fell... i am bawling and crying my heart out... somehow i felt that at last i am now on my way to recovery :)
Hey, There! I Just Gave Birth To My Son About 6 Months Ago And Have Had SEVERE Sciatic Nerve Pain For Over A Year Now Because Of Being Pregnant And Then Having Him. I Recently Got Diagnosed With At Least 5 Other Issues Regarding My Spine, But Thats Aside The Point haha. But I’m Actually Going In Tomorrow To See Exactly What Surgery I’m Having But I Have A Real Quick Question For You! With The Laminectomy, Did You Have Immediate Relief? When You Woke Up From Surgery, Was The Nerve Pain Automatically Gone?
Well the sciatic pain was gone but I had surgery pain and was pretty weak...some people it take more time for the sciatic pain to be gone. Depends how pissed off your nerve is for being pinched!
I just had an epidural injection for my L5-S1. In your MRI, did they say how many millimeters long your herniation was? And on a scale of 1 to 10 before your epidural, what was the pain when standing, sitting, and lying down respectively? What are these levels today in comparison?
Mine was horrific...10 at all times....even contemplated doing the unthinkable....then I snapped out of it and started to fight....ended up with surgery...best decision I ever made.
6 day post opp lum/dis L 4 & 5. Sciatic pain some nerve pain is the higher level pain than incision. My Friend & I working out which meds when. Pain or muscle relax or nerve. Finding laying down sitting up/walking routines. A couple BAD nights but it's slowly getting better. No back brace issues but have grabbers & of course my dear Helper. Baby steps. It's a the nerve pain + Restless leg/hip like thing that has been the worse. Thanks for the videos they have helped me prepare and give me hope
Fact: I had a dissectomy and laminectomy.. I had a posterial decompression spinal fusion from L5 to S1 in 2010.. 10 years later the vertebrae above the hardware became so weak it felt like I my back was ripping apart. Take care of yourself! Degenerative joint disease, arthritis. .. January 30th 2020 I had to have old hardware removed, fusion still in place, new hardware from L1 to S3 and a new PLIF spinal fusion, this second surgery has damn near killed me it hurt so bad lol... I'm 4 months out and no where near where I should be. Good luck.
Didn't doctors told u to go for physiotherapy in the city u were residing after operation.plz rep.n plz tell me everyone says that nerves gets weak after surgery is it true.if yes how u deal it
Oh my God God bless you this is second day after surgery and the incision pain is on bearable it hurts to lay it hurts to walk it hurts to sit for watching your video brought me comfort tomorrow will be my third day hopefully things will get better
I have had sciatica pain for over 4 years, progressing from mild to worse pain to a straight up disability with red hot poker burning in my legs for the last 15 months. 3 weeks ago (Nov 1) I had a L4-L5-S1 fusion. I have had near excruciating pain since then but the pain is different and more related to irritation of the nerves during the procedure. I am finding that after 3 weeks I do have some trouble getting out of bed or the chair especially if i have been in one position for a period of time. I live alone so I use a walker to help get up or down. I spend a lot of time moving from one chair to another and getting outside to walk when the weather permits, there ha been some snow and freezing drizzle lately I do not walk outside then because a fall would be catastrophic. as with the poster of this video my sciatica, numbness, and burning pain are all gone. Just some left over pain on my right leg and hip which is where my symptoms are the worst. Looking forward to moving forward.
@@RebeccaMeyerToo Even Better on my 6 week followup X-ray we find that the hardware has failed and the intermodal spacer between L5 and S1 has shifted back against the spinal cord and the surgery has to be redone. December 21 they went back in and reaccomplished this procedure. The OR nurse later told me that on screw was "poorly placed, and had actually broken through the bone" another screw backed out and both rods came loose they replaced the hardware and the spacer and closed it up. So now we are back to square ONE. returned home from the Hospital late in the day Christmas Day 2018. Nothing but pain and meds since returning home. Don't let anyone kid you a second surgery on the SAME thing is much more painful than the original and will probably take longer to recover. Will have to wait and see. I guess SOME poor schlubb somewhere has to make up the statistics..............Woo Hoo! Lucky me! the best part is they will bill me to repair their mistake as well.
fdxdsm this is why I have put off surgery for so many years and just suffered. Have heard nothing but nightmares about fusions. I’m dead set against them. I have heard this same failed hardware story from 3 of 5 close friends acquaintances who have had fusions. The other 2 still wish they never did it and now the vertebrae above the fusion are destroyed and need surgery. However I’m at the point now I can’t walk. I’m 46 single parent of a 4 and 8 yr old so I have no choice. I finally went to a neurosurgeon who said he never does fusions as they are worthless. That’s all I needed to hear. Having L23 L34 bilateral laminectomy in a week and a half. Go see a neurosurgeon. Orthopedic surgeons are butchers.
Darren Rago just chiming in here sorry. I was in so much pain for 9 months. Could not do anything!! I stopped PT,the chiro, my osteopath with injections, stopped muscle relaxers and all meds. Did what the book said in fix your back by robin McKenzie and started on 2 Tumeric pills every 2 hrs and 1/2 dropper full of cbd oil 2x a day. Took 3 weeks but I can say I’m 90% recovered!!! NO SURGERY! I’m amazed right now and very grateful for this simple book I didn’t even want to invest in so I got the old version from the library.
Hello Rebecca. Thanks for the vide! I had the Laminotomy/Disectonomy 8 days back. I was on 5 weeks bed rest before surgery I still feel pain in my leg when I sit or walk more than 100 steps. Is it common?
I understand the pain...for me it came and went...my Doctor said...because I waited so long for surgery...my nerve was really pissed off! It takes time for the nerve to go back to normal...my nerve was fire engine red...a normal nerve should be white. Also...my nerve started growing little "tentacles" that were wrapping around one another. He had to release them one by one. It's going to take time to heal. Make sure you are doing nerve glides to help with scar tissue.
i just had minimal invasive surgery less than 8 hours . writing this from hospital bed. feeling great until now. no sciatica. i will see how do i feel tomorrow morning.
@@ShafHussain sorry for late reply. i am feeling very good. I can walk up to 45 minutes without and break. but i think the wound still need some time to recover internally.
@@ShafHussain well its person to person. Some people start working within three to four weeks. I am feeling 80% ok. My back is little stiff and i get tired quickly during my walk but i hope within next 2 weeks i will build more stamina.
Hi Rebecca, i was following your videos.. i has microdisectomy yesterday and still numbness and burning sensation still there. do you have pinched nerve and numbness after the surgery?
i am scheduled to undergo this micro disectomy after few month when this will be all over , can you please tell me how much time it will take to recover and go back to athletics type movemnet if i follow the recovery rules strictly ?
I think I posted this while still under anesthesia. I had a surgery flu for a couple of days which put me in to a mealweek long fibro flare. I did find it hard to roll either way for the first week.I'm learning that squatting down for me is not a good idea. I just rolled backwards and landed on my back 😮 gotta be careful with any squatting
@@RebeccaMeyerToo I am doing really well. I am out of my brace and so glad to be out of it 😁 I know I still have a ways to go but each day I feel better. Thanks again for your help. It helped more than you know
Thank you for the video, and your positive personality. I had laminectomy surgery 3 - weeks ago today (11/9/20). Although I never really had pain in my right leg, it was my left leg from the quad on down to the tip of my big toe, that use to hurt like a mo-fo. Now I have zero pain in my left leg, and it is my right leg that is really aching from my hip down to my right knee. The surgeon told me the other day that the pain in my right leg is normal, as it was the weaker leg (which it definitely was) and I had a lot of soft tissue that had to wake up. Still just the same I am worried, and maybe I am being impatient and need to give myself more time?? If you are in A.A. & are sober, congratulations!! My sobriety date is 9-30-89, which is truly a miracle. Please do not “ever” be ashamed or embarrassed of your AA triangle insignia. It is something to be proud of even if the surgeons messed it up. I consider my long 6” incision a battle scar. One last thing my doctors were told of my past history before I went in for surgery, and I asked them to please let me try to recover with non-narcotic meds, as I was afraid of awakening the sleeping giant in my brain & having cravings to drink or drug. When I awoke from surgery they had a morphine drip iv in my arm that I could press the button on for pain every ten minutes, in addition to administering me oxycodone pills. They disconnected the morphine drip the following day, and gave me a 7-day supply of oxycodone pills to take one every 5 hours before I left the hospital 2 days later. I did as was told & I was glad that I had the pills, as the pain was pretty intense at times. On the 6th day, I quit taking the pills completely. The following day I fell into a depression for two days, but I knew what it was (my mind wanting more oxycodone) so it helped to realize what was happening. My point is that I made it & got free & clear of the narcotics. Sorry my post was so wordy. I normally am not like that. I hope to hear back from you, or anyone else, and find out if you are having sharp leg pains 3 - weeks after surgery. Thank you Larry in Kansas City MO
I’m having a laminectomy/microdisectomy done for lumbar region. I’m 22 and I’m really nervous. Do you know what to expect? How to prepare for recovery?
Good luck. Hopefully it’s the only surgery you will need. Some people get one year of relief or 5-10. Them re-herniation. I re- herniated after 2 years and just had ADR. Artificial disc replacement. So.. when I see people complaining one year after surgery, it’s cuz the problem wasn’t fixed, Or only temporarily relief. I ended up having a free MRI review from Enande Group in Germany.... things to look for are decreased disc space, dehydrated, black diseases disc... you should see mine now... it looks like The Terminator! Cobalt alloy prosthetic disc! And most importantly NO PAIN. I suffered for five years!
OK today is my 2 week since my triple laminectomy L 3 L4 and L5 ..only took 2 pain pills total had it on wed but sunday was pretty rough even my hair was sore and stiff ..Take a fools advice find good doctor and have it done
how did you do. I’m having bilateral L23 and L34 in a week and a half. I can barley walk now due to pain end within 20-30 yards I lose all feeling in my right leg and gotta take a seat regardless of where I am without using crutches. Even with crutches can’t walk that far or well but do avoid the intense pain and total Loss of feeling and use of My right leg. I’m scared of the post operative pain and of Course will have pain meds but I’ve been on pain meds so long that barley do anything anymore I’m scared. My surgeon swears the pain will be less then I’m feeling daily now but it’s hard to believe. Regardless of how bad it is I’m doing it because my life is essentially over in my current situation. I can barley dress Myself and I am a single parents of a 4 and 8 yr old. I just want the truth of what to expect.
And seriously when people complain about how much their back hurts (that aren’t in our situation) I nod and smile but inside I’m like, you have no god dam idea what pain is. I thought I knew 2-3 years ago what true pain was. I’d pay anything to feel that good again. Hopefully in a less then 2 weeks I will.
Drop foot on my right leg did not go away after two weeks of laminectomy surgery as I was promised!? But the back pain slowly getting better with the help of oxycodone.
Hi Rebecca, I am on third day post op and it is a rough ride for sure I just wanted to thank you again for all your awesome tips and for making your videos Hugs Tory
I had same operation as you are about a month ago but i fell the same pain in my leg as before is it normal and go away after some time our is it serious please let me know
I had my laminectomy 10 days ago and I feel the same pain in my butt and leg as before (but worse). Did yours get better? I’m terrified my surgery failed.
You are funny! I had laminectomy last Wednesday! Yep….just like u…omg…no sciatic pain,(mine was from a synovial cyst pushing on nerve root & spinal cord. And yes….i was just there!!! Oh….how about your throat from breathing tube? Going through throat thing like candy
My Lumbar surgery was a nightmare . L4 thru S1 in may 2016 . I became incontinent for 2 weeks . Pain was not so bad it's the other inconveniences like walking ,forgetting I couldn't do what I normally do . A lot of it was my fault I know . It's been 2 years this month and the pain is back same as before . It could be sacral pain . Kinda hard to tell.
Oh my I’m so sorry to hear that. Have you spoken to your dr? I have a feeling this will be a life long commitment for good back care. How are you doing now?
I just had the same thing and I was extremely nervous also. I remember when I was in recovery I was still really groggy and wanted to go back to sleep. And they asked my what my pain level was and I said 7, so they gave me some really good stuff through the IV. I felt a lot better. But it still stung bad. But I’m on day one after surgery now. I get up and walk around the house every half Hour. One incision and 10 staples. And the damn staples sting and poke. Can’t wait till I get those out.
i had surgery today...i didnt have any real pain when they brought me in recovery room, was rather comfortable..i mean the incision pain is minimal just a little sore, nothing at all compared to what ive been dealing with..if anything, i feel weak in the leg that had the issue, thats what im assuming pt will clear up...its amazing how inflamed my right side was and now the leg to the touch feels so much less inflamed..amazing what a nerve could do..he said my nerve was all crunched up, i never, until this problem, understood nerve pain
After seeing your video i went for a microdiscectomy on November 5th 2019. Its now march 13th 2020 and two weeks ago my s1 disc reherniated and the L5 is on its way out. So now its fusion time. Now that ive been through it im not so scared. I hyper ventilated the first time and kept trying to get away in the waiting room. The recovery wasnt bad. I was up and walking 20mins after being in my room after i woke up. When i came home i hardly had pain killers. Yes it was painful but not that bad that i couldn't handle the pain. Just was hoping i wouldn't be at fusion stage for longer then its been
I’m 19, 5 days post op from a L4/L5 laminectomy without fusion. Zero pain compared to what it was 4 inch dermabond incision. Kinda shocked at how well I’m doing. I can for the most part function as normal aside from lifting bending and twisting as a precaution so I don’t get carried away.
HI REBECCA I suppose to have the same surgery June 28,2019 but I am horrified, I am so scared I might just drive pass the Hospital, your so brave and look well but I might get HEART attack before GOD FORBID , for my BLOOD PRESSURE being SO HIGH FROM THINKING ABOUT MY SURGERY
Treasure4 U oh honey....I understand the fear. I was totally freaked out before the surgery also. When you are preparing for you surgery you will meet your anesthesiologist. Tell the how anxious/scared you are and they will make you calm down. Try to practice breathing techniques when you get anxious. Breathe in for 4 counts....hold your breath for 4 counts...breathe out for 8 counts...do this 6-8 times. I know what is coming is scary...but it will be so worth it in the end. Call your dr. Or nurses assistant....let them know how scared you are. Don’t cancel the surgery. You can push through the fear.
Hi, I’m 24hrs post op, L4L5 Hemilaminotomy. Im 34 yrs old, my sciatic pain, pins and needles and numbness are still there if not a bit worse. Has anyone had this after decompression surgery? I know the nerves may take time to heal but I was hoping for immediate relief post op. Im worried that I had this done and it didn’t work. Im scared.
@@tiffanylujan7374 hi, unfortunately zero relief!! I’m scheduled to have another surgery in two weeks. My new surgeon was dumbfounded that the previous guy didn’t remove any disc material while I was open. I have a major herniation l5-s1 that he is going to repair and also do a revision at l4-l5 to repair a bulge.
My Laminectomy L3/L4 April 26th 2018 has been the least painful surgery thus far. My Nightmare started in 1999 picking up a screwdriver in an awkward way. Bam 6 weeks sciatica horrible. I recovered had no pain at all. I was in the National Guard and had been training for the PT test. During the PT test I assume a bulging disc herniated. A week later it was a complete rupture I was told after my 1st surgery they removed two large pieces from my foramina canal. I ended up going two years and did the right side again this time about 8 weeks no work recovered and just dealt with pain up to 2011 and had a fusion at same disc space. It has given me trouble ever since but I could walk and not be knocked to the floor from electrical like shocks to my left leg, 2015 was rear ended in a vehicle accident resulted in a 3 level fusion to my neck C4-C7. Recently the L3/L4. My follow up is in 10 days but literally pain hasn’t been an issue yet just minor discomfort or pain is just something I can tolerate better IDK. Glad you are doing well. Maybe I should start a VLOG.
Rebecca Meyer Too I am a little over two months now and sometimes I still over do it. I am still on restrictions 20 lbs and just walking and can get in a pool for exercise. My legs are better but back pain can get me still with a vengeance. Dr said I got a ways to go. But I am active have gone back to work supervising. I was very Ste pic in my spinal canal and my exiting foramina canals were moderate to severe both sides. So he did the roto rooter. Hoping for good results. How are you?
Thanks for your video esp on post surgery tips. I should watch your video Or read some articles related to discectomy before i decided to undergo the surgery. My surgery was on 20/09/2020. Discharged from hosp on 21sept. physiotherapist set an appointment for physio on 25. i think he didnt discuss with my Dr about my condition). I did all the exercise he taught me. But on 27sept my sciatic pain come again, im totally cant walk & stand. On 28. I went to hosp using ambulance cause im not able walk. Again, I was admitted and Dr did MRI Scan, the disc herniated again!OMG! So Dr decided to do 2nd surgery on 29sept. Now im on 3rd week of post operation. Sciatic pain relieved but sometime i still can feel numbness on my leg & toe. Hopefully my recovery will be smooth for this time.
How are you now? And where you from? My dr also suggest me to get surgery for laminated disc L4-5 in hurry.. because my rigth leg.. are already weak... before this I had pain for 3 month.. go for fisioterapi only.. eat supplement and do some strech from ypu tube also.. the pain are gone and I can walk woth no pain but I still can stand for a long time cause my back feel.hurt and weak..
I recently (just about a week and a half ago) had my surgery for spinal stenosis, and disc issues. I was actually quite surprised how little pain I was in, as compared to prior to the surgery so I was fortunate to not need much for pain medication. Mostly using ibuprofen to reduce swelling, etc. I completely agree with someone learning the log technique prior, and the use of a cane for initial stability once you stand. To assist myself in rolling over onto my side on the bed, I tied 2 fabric belts together and looping one around the frame of the bed. I then had the second belt hanging near enough to reach and long enough to grasp with my far arm to pull on. The final thing that I think some tend to overlook is where you will sit after the surgery. I couldn't sit on our couch due to how deep it is, and how hard it would be to stand from it, so I stuck with a harder kitchen chair and had to purchase cushions to give it some comfort (definitely not the best, but will do for a couple weeks).
Oh my God. I can't believe they didn't give you pain meds. I woke up, laying on my back, screaming and thrashing in pain after my surgery at L5 S1. They gave me liquid Oxycodone and when that did nothing, they gave me IV Fentanyl and even that took a while to help. Days 3 to 7 were amazing. I felt sore but great. Weeks two and three have been hard and awful, but I am working my way back.
151cali omg!!! You are such a sweetheart! It will all be over before you know it. New you...or I mean old you...if right around the corner waiting. You won’t feel a thing. Keep me posted. Would love to hear your progress. Surgery Sisters!
Thanks for posting this! My husband just had this done a day ago and we are both flipping out as he is much worse then what he was going into this surgery. They only prescribed him hydrocone tylonal. He is in horrible amounts of pain. 😥😥
I literally just found you and I am currently living your life! I have been dealing with sciatica and a massive herniated disk that needed emergency surgery! I’m post op week 2 and feeling the same! So I’m hoping to feel better with more weeks to come!
Well I am feeling a lot better then I did then, but I still have tons of numbness in my women AreAs and now have bladder issues! I feel a lot stronger now that I’m in physical therapy!
Raylin Martin how did you do. I’m having bilateral L23 and L34 in a week and a half. Great video, I'm a mess, finally the surgeon for a visit. Hopefully he'll keep me there. I too don't like pain and just turned 67. I'm not gonna say anything about NA OR AA but I do qualify. I just want to get back to walking, yoga, and perhaps being a massage therapist.🌝
Hi, I’m 28 and in the hospital now and will be having this surgery in about 3 hours. I have numbness in my legs and praying the feeling comes back. Prayers please. Your attitude makes me feel less scared. Thank you 😊
How did your surgery go? How are you feeling a year later?
Did the feelings come back in your legs? @camiliaferguson
Thank you very much for your post
Me too!!! So glad I went for it!
I had this surgery back in 2008 it left me with a mild spinal cord injury, however, I got OFF ALL painkillers after and it's been almost 15 years and I belly dance and walk daily. I send you massive love for sharing this as it is not an easy surgery.
awesome 🙂
I had this surgery two weeks ago yesterday and I have to say it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I have had such an easy recovery that my husband and friends have had to yell at me to STOP BENDING! STOP TWISTING! or you’ll hurt yourself. My dr even said no BLT for 4 more weeks and no walking my 60 pound boxer and I wrestle with myself to not completely clean my house! Lol 😮
I have the exact same problem!! Good luck on not cleaning. It's been almost 2 weeks and not cleaning is the hardest thing to do😆
I just had my surgery on the 11th and my only regret is not having done it sooner. I have the same results my nerve pain seemed to have just been turned off immediately after surgery. The only pain of any substance I can say is my surgical site. So I am extremely optimistic to getting my life back. Congratulations on your surgery and have a healthy and speedy recovery.
Same to you! And yes same as me that my only regret was waiting to have it!
I am not giving in to surgery unless I have to-
I had a laminectomy/ Diseconomy in Dec. I feel much better now however, it was no joke. What a recovery! Phew.
Thanks for very professional video. I’ll have the same surgery within two weeks I am kind of concerned but you gave some positive hopes.
I have spinal stenosis operation soon laminectomy thank you for this video😊
@@tonyasager2921, thanks for your suggestion. I'll talk to my (new) pain management doctor about it.
Lizzette Cruz sounds good. I hate that u feel desperate. 11 years in pain management, there are things that work. ❤️
What is the update?
Take care
Thank you. I’m 3 years from my surgery and still in a horrible amount of pain. 😞.
Love your video. 2 days post-op here and in lots of pain. My sciatica symptoms are much less than before surgery so that is definitely a huge relief.
I was doing great after my first surgery but 2 weeks later I needed a 2nd emergency laminectomy surgery. I can't do anything without extreme pain. I'm 6 weeks post op from the 2nd surgery. I'm too young to be immobile.
Finally a firsthand account of this surgery without the horror story others have
Gives one hope
Just 6 months ago I had cervical spine surgery with stainless steel implants and was on a morphine pump to adjust my pain as needed...May 7,2019,I had major laminectomy surgery, I was given pain meds in hospital and 2 kinds to use at home,1 was opioids, which I weaned myself off after 3 weeks..Still recovering, had 24 staples incision
wow...how are you doing now?
Hang in there
It’s going to take time. Be patient. It will be worth it when it’s over!
You mentioned worst pain ever. I am 2 years post my laminectomy surgery and I can back you up 100% on this
It is definitely the worst pain you will ever deal with.
Wow that's crazy but I understand completely...how are you doing now?
Great advice!
Having this surgery in a couple days thank you for this !!!
I wish you the absolute best. Mine is next month and prayers for a complete recovery!
I’m going to possibly be going thru this in the next month or two, so thank you for such a great video.
Hi, I have undergone this surgery 10 days back. But I experience pain on my left leg. Is it common after this surgery and how to get rid of that pain?
How are you doing now??? How long has it been?
OMG I told my husband the same thing, honey they must have dropped me a few times. I am now 3 months post op, I have very minor pain. I had a laminectomy and spinal fusion L4-L5. And I am 71 years young. Good luck to you.
haweygs omg Im still in pain after 2 months . Im scared I mightbe doing something wrong
omg I joked with my family about the same thing, I ended up having a spinal leak during surgery and had low cerebrospinal fluid which cause incapacitating headaches 48 hours post op. they where orthostatic better with lying flat, other than that mine went great. they did have to go back in s second time to check for leak, they couldn't find, figured it was during surgery. spent a week in the hospital headaches lasted 2 wk, nothing would shake it.
I will have my surgery on Tuesday. Have a herniated disk on L5 L4. Am so nervous but then again I finally can't wait because I am disabled for 7 months and can't normally walk and have every single day pain.
Hope things are improving! What’s the update?
That is beautiful. How are you doing now?
marijorobles 19 , its 9 months now that you had your surgery .. Are u doing well now ? Do u have numbness/burning of skin anywhere in your leg now ?
How r u now
Mine was horrific...10 at all times....even contemplated doing the unthinkable....then I snapped out of it and started to fight....ended up with surgery...best decision I ever made.
I had lumbar laminectomy L 4 L5 S1😊 helps
6 day post opp lum/dis L 4 & 5. Sciatic pain some nerve pain is the higher level pain than incision. My Friend & I working out which meds when. Pain or muscle relax or nerve. Finding laying down sitting up/walking routines. A couple BAD nights but it's slowly getting better. No back brace issues but have grabbers & of course my dear Helper. Baby steps. It's a the nerve pain + Restless leg/hip like thing that has been the worse. Thanks for the videos they have helped me prepare and give me hope
So glad you are feeling better.:)
Good luck.
Very good information. I will have my cervical fusion surgery soon. What I am learning from various comments that results vary from people.
My surgery was scheduled today for 2/13. Thanks for posting this.
How are you doing now? Hope you are finding some relief!
Keep in mind your nerves are really pissed off right now...give it time. It will get better. Hang in there!
How are you feeling now?
fdxdsm this is why I have put off surgery for so many years and just suffered.
My mom is having her surgery in the morning! Thanks for the tips, I'm gonna be taking care of her post op.
i just had minimal invasive surgery less than 8 hours . writing this from hospital bed. feeling great until now. no sciatica. i will see how do i feel tomorrow morning.
Imran Ali how are you now? I am due to have surgery on 10th June 😬
@@ShafHussain sorry for late reply. i am feeling very good. I can walk up to 45 minutes without and break. but i think the wound still need some time to recover internally.
Imran Ali good to hear...how lomg do you think full recovery will take?
@@ShafHussain well its person to person. Some people start working within three to four weeks. I am feeling 80% ok. My back is little stiff and i get tired quickly during my walk but i hope within next 2 weeks i will build more stamina.
Hi Rebecca, i was following your videos.. i has microdisectomy yesterday and still numbness and burning sensation still there. do you have pinched nerve and numbness after the surgery?
The surgery I had was different than yours. But they made room for the nerve to heal
i am scheduled to undergo this micro disectomy after few month when this will be all over , can you please tell me how much time it will take to recover and go back to athletics type movemnet if i follow the recovery rules strictly ?
My surgery was much bigger than just a micro discectomy. I think for hours it’s just a few weeks. But talk to your doctor and ask a million questions!
How are you feeling?!?
@@RebeccaMeyerToo I am doing really well. I am out of my brace and so glad to be out of it 😁
I know I still have a ways to go but each day I feel better.
Thank you
Larry in Kansas City MO
Glad to hear u are doing well
Iam petrified hearing about all the pain after surgery iam going in march 16th for surgery .but now im having second thoughts omg 😱
How are you today? Like you, I'm terrified.
I waited about a month to stop (tapered) it was too painful to stop.
Another question. How long was it before you went back to work and did you do any physical therapy?
I think it was around 2-3 months...but I had to stop working prior to surgery because of the pain.
Isn't that crazy, how much is done to your spine and it's STILL nothing near the intensity of the nerve pain? I was saying the same thing.
I stubbed my toe the other day...I was like...did I hurt myself? My pain tolerance is super high now!
how did you do. I’m having bilateral L23 and L34 in a week and a half. I can barley walk now due to pain end within 20-30 yards I lose all feeling in my right leg and gotta take a seat regardless of where I am without using crutches. Even with crutches can’t walk that far or well but do avoid the intense pain and total
Loss of feeling and use of
My right leg.
@@bigrago yes the nerve pain is unbelievable i had a laminectomy 4 months ago so happy I did
How long was it after the surgery before they let you go home? I absolutely hate being in the hospital I want out quick.
I was home the same day...did you have complications?
@@RebeccaMeyerToo I am having the procedure in mid February and am just curious. How long was it before you were fully functional?
Thank you so much 💓 💗 💛 my surgery date is October 8th 2020. ( L 5-4 right leg 🦵
how are you doing now?
Having L3-5 done tomorrow. Stopped in for advice and see a lot of it. thanks.
Thanks...are you feeling better???
Hopefully it went well!
Drop foot on my right leg did not go away after two weeks of laminectomy surgery as I was promised!? But the back pain slowly getting better with the help of oxycodone.
Hi Rebecca, I am on third day post op and it is a rough ride for sure
I just wanted to thank you again
for all your awesome tips and
for making your videos
Hugs Tory
Hey! Hope it’s getting better for you. Hang in there!
Thank you. Helpful information with a good dash of humor. Just showed this to Judy who got her stitches out yesterday. She had a laminectomy.
Hope she is doing well!patience is the 🔑
I had same operation as you are about a month ago but i fell the same pain in my leg as before is it normal and go away after some time our is it serious please let me know
It takes time...your never is really pissed off from being squished....patience! How are you doing now?
I had my laminectomy 10 days ago and I feel the same pain in my butt and leg as before (but worse). Did yours get better? I’m terrified my surgery failed.
Great video Rebecca . 6/20 i am having LS 21 surgery minimal invasive. I can barely walk .
You are hilarious. This made me feel better
I had this same surgery! Glad you got relief!
how are you doing now??
I didn't have staples...that would have sucked!!! BIG TIME! how are you doing now?
i had surgery today...i didnt have any real pain when they brought me in recovery room, was rather comfortable..i mean the incision pain is minimal just a little sore, nothing at all compared to what ive been dealing with..if anything, i feel weak in the leg that had the issue, thats what im assuming pt will clear up...its amazing how inflamed my right side was and now the leg to the touch feels so much less inflamed..amazing what a nerve could do..he said my nerve was all crunched up, i never, until this problem, understood nerve pain
@@Cardiojunkie1 how are you now?
After seeing your video i went for a microdiscectomy on November 5th 2019. Its now march 13th 2020 and two weeks ago my s1 disc reherniated and the L5 is on its way out. So now its fusion time. Now that ive been through it im not so scared. I hyper ventilated the first time and kept trying to get away in the waiting room. The recovery wasnt bad. I was up and walking 20mins after being in my room after i woke up. When i came home i hardly had pain killers. Yes it was painful but not that bad that i couldn't handle the pain. Just was hoping i wouldn't be at fusion stage for longer then its been
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that!
Have the benefits of your surgery still remained?
I’m 19, 5 days post op from a L4/L5 laminectomy without fusion. Zero pain compared to what it was 4 inch dermabond incision. Kinda shocked at how well I’m doing. I can for the most part function as normal aside from lifting bending and twisting as a precaution so I don’t get carried away.
Excellent! How are you doing now?
Im scared.
do you have feeling back, how are you 2 months later
@@tiffanylujan7374 hi, unfortunately zero relief!! I’m scheduled to have another surgery in two weeks. My new surgeon was dumbfounded that the previous guy didn’t remove any disc material while I was open. I have a major herniation l5-s1 that he is going to repair and also do a revision at l4-l5 to repair a bulge.
I am going in for this very surgery on June 6 2024
How are u doing?
Glad to hear you are doing well. This horror just stops life completely. How are you doing now?
Rebecca Meyer Too I am a little over two months now and sometimes I still over do it. I am still on restrictions 20 lbs and just walking and can get in a pool for exercise. My legs are better but back pain can get me still with a vengeance. Dr said I got a ways to go. But I am active have gone back to work supervising. I was very Ste pic in my spinal canal and my exiting foramina canals were moderate to severe both sides. So he did the roto rooter. Hoping for good results. How are you?
thank you for sharing that I myself have to get the laminectomy
Madam how long do you expect to have this numbness in your heel or leg .. Did you ask your doc about it ?
Yes asked the dr...totally normal...it comes back...but I do recommend doing the nerve flosses 3 times a day!
@@RebeccaMeyerToo Ok .. Thanx ..
Good afternoon how are you now, I'm scheduled for the same surgery on the 12th of this month Thanks
How did it go? Was it successful ?
Rebecca I am going in march 8 for l3-4 with hardware possibility how are you now?
I’m doing great! Did you get the surgery?
Do you have any tips for post op recovery??? I would love to hear them!
I think you were on the money about practicing the log roll.
Rots of rest and relaxation and super light exercises. :)
@@Pens724 Do you think an ecliptical chair would have been easier to use since you're sitting, and you can use your arms to recline?
I love your videos! Love how you keep them lighthearted - I can do this now :)
how is he doing now?
I just had it done this week. Also a friend of dr bob.
Very helpful, thanks
I go have surgery Feb 1rst 2021. I'm so nervous
how are you doing
I wonder how this recovery compares to laminectomy in the cervical region... and in an older patient. ( late 50's)
I literally just found you and I am currently living your life! I have been dealing with sciatica and a massive herniated disk that needed emergency surgery! I’m post op week 2 and feeling the same! So I’m hoping to feel better with more weeks to come!
how are you doing now
Well I am feeling a lot better then I did then, but I still have tons of numbness in my women AreAs and now have bladder issues! I feel a lot stronger now that I’m in physical therapy!
I also wanna mention that I was diagnosed with cauda equina syndrome

Great video, I'm a mess, finally the surgeon for a visit. Hopefully he'll keep me there. I too don't like pain and just turned 67. I'm not gonna say anything about NA OR AA but I do qualify. I just want to get back to walking, yoga, and perhaps being a massage therapist.🌝
