For me, even if caufield scores 45 and suzuki scores 90 points, I would still put suzuki above caufield. First of all, suzuki would probably be the primary feeder for caufield if he scores a lot. Also, suzuki is the better all around player, he’s the center with responsibilities, and he plays a bit on the pk and at the end of the games protecting a lead. Overall, I think the habs would be worst without a 90 points suzuki in the lineup than without a 45 goal scorer caufield. I do think they are both crucial to the success of the team.
You’re undervaluing the effect Caufield has on the PP though. Look at the teams that made it far in the playoffs and they all had extremely effective powerplays. Caufield is by far our best trigger man. I’m not saying he’s better than Suzuki or Slaf, just he is a very very important piece
@@bren7431 yeah for sure he is crucial the to team and the pp, but I still think overall suzuki is the most important player on the team, even if caufield scores 45 and suzuki get 90 pts
You guys deserve a comment and subscribe for your efforts! think your list order is spot on. Montembault is better than the credit he gets from the fans, he doesn't really fall apart, I think he has a unflappable nature. Caufield at 45 goals I think is a bit optimistic until Hutson can find him by creating more passing lanes on the PP If Dach can stay healthy and play with Slaf I think 70 points is obtainable. Nick is crafty and so far not injury prone 🤞when the team starts to fire on all cylinders he will get 90 points
The better Slafkofski becomes, the more points Caufield will accumulate. Everything depends on Slafkofski. I will be blunt, in 4 years Slaf will have a letter on his jersey and will be somewhat like a Brady Tkachuk/Mark Messier/Lindros dominant player. If this is the case, the Habs first line with either Caufield or Demidov will be one of the strongest in the league. There is even a chance that Suzuki slips down to the second line to make space for Demidov at center on the first line.. We would then have a second line made of Newhook, Suzuki and Dach. Third line would have Roy, Hage and someone else to be determined.
This is a great off-season discussion and well made video! With Caufield I don't think the concerns were that his shoulder was not fully recovered but that he was not used to it and not trusting it.
Suzuki is the most well rounded in plus of being made of steel (no missing games), can play on pk, can play on PP, has no obvious downsides. Caufield is an offensive talent that you WANT on your PP and first lines, and he's notorious for making himself invisible (a lot of his goals are from one timers). Slaf has a deceptively good wrist shot, is big and not easy to dislodged, has a ridiculously good work ethics and willingness to improve, and is more rounded, IMHO, than Caufield is, but the reality is that all three play crucial roles on the team and are our future core 3.
Slaf is better than Caufield. He’s a more complete player, and he’s a power forward, while Caufield is a sniper, Slaf is also a good sniper. I would pick Slaf on my team, and never look for Cole.
Listen to Hughes. They paid Slaf now because he is going to get massive yips at some point. He is a young man. He will go sideways a few times before he is that 24 yr old you want him to be. His ceiling is 70 points no more. But a big intimidating over time 70. He needs to go through all the pressure that comes with the big bucks and the big pressure. He is not immune. As for suzuki I have to call you in one item as well. He is ordinary defensively. Better than most. But to hear people talk at times you would think he was a top 10 defensive forward. Just because he has Gainey’s (lack) of personality, dont confuse it with leadership or talent. Let Nick be Nick. He is well rounded and will be an excellent 2nd line center 4 years from now when we win it
Suzuki and Caufield at the moment are the 2 best players on the team and it isn’t even close. Dach may get close if he reaches his potential. Demidov could potentially surpass them in a couple of years. Slaf will be a solid complimentary player but he’s not on that level.
Most teams don’t have superstars! The term is used way too loosely by media types! It’s getting to the point that if the player can tie his skate laces without his Mom helping him ... he’s a superstar. Maurice Richard, Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky, Guy Lafleur, Mario Lemieux are examples of former superstars. Sydney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin and Connor McDavid sure examples of current ones. There still is the term “star.”

caufield is a 2nd line player.

Brady tkachuk is the perfect player comparison imo

Thanks for watching! We’re glad you enjoyed. Hopefully CC will come out flying next year.

Habs need a top line center.
Suzuki is very serviceable, he can project to a player like Bergeron
NO! Habs have it in Suzuki. What they really need is Dach to be THE 2nd Center.

Totally different players. It is meaningless to compare them

caufiels offensive and defensive analytics were better than Slafkovsky last season
What a dumb question. Each has their own style.

The Habs have no superstars.
Slaf and demidov
What about Youppi? One of the best waiver pickups in history

100%. They do have a few guys with star->superstar upside.
Is Jason Robertson a superstar for you?
