Sincere congrats on three years sobriety! I'm at thirty years and while it's never felt like a struggle, I've never taken it for granted either. Keep it up.
first and foremost, congrats on the sobriety!!!!!!!!! Ill be 4 years sober July 30 2024. Second- I am begining to plan my first solo through hike and as a female, its encouraging to see another solo lady hiker! YES! Thanks for sharing your journey with the world. Happy Trails!
love how you share all your ups and downs. Not just the "ups". ALSO really dig how you often use gratitude to center yourself/ pull yourself back to Earth and allow your feelings to just "be". Very inspiring video. Thank you so much for this AND your gear list you published online. This will help my SOBO this fall. Oct -Dec 23. muchO blessings to you Ivey! "chief" HP jr
Just found your videos. Thanks for taking us along. Well done !! I found hiking is the best addiction. Congratulations on your sobriety!! Anita and Jean from Michigan.
I’m so glad it was a helpful portrayal! I haven’t hiked the PCT, so I can’t say for sure, but the AZT was a very unique trail haha. I really enjoyed it because it was unlike anything else I’d hiked!
Awesome job Kaleidoscope ! You are one tough cookie! I'll never forget how I had to do a slow jog to try and keep up with you for the short time I tried! You should be very proud of what a strong person you are! Congratulations on another great hike!
That is so exciting! I am stoked for you. The ending tribute is for persons fleeing their homes in Mexico, Central and South America, to come into the US across our southern border. The Sonoran desert is a harsh place, and often times these people are promised safe passage by individuals who take their money and abandon them in the desert with no water or supplies. Thousands of people have died at our Southern Border. Our obstructive immigration laws/processes are a huge part of the problem; people do not believe they will be able to legally matriculate into the country in a reasonable amount of time, they fear detainment, and they are often fleeing violent situations in their home countries which require urgent relocation.
@@shetreksco I thought so, I want sure if it was a metaphor for persons experiencing SUD or addiction. But yes the southern border is a humanitarian crisis not a security issue. It’s very sad so many policy makers view them as less than human.
Congratulations! I'm starting in the middle of October and could you tell me the limit rate of your quilt, or sleeping bag because you told always there was so cold every night. I don't want to freezing during the nights. Thanks.
Hey! By starting in October your weather will likely be milder than mine, I didn't start until the middle of November. My quilt was rated to 20F, and it was in the teens most nights. I swapped it out for a 15F mummy bag and that was much warmer. Good luck on your trek!!
Great Vid & Congratulations!! Fellow Thru-hiker here, JMT 2014, PCT sobo 2016 and an AT LASH, GA>VT. I'm considering heading out to the AZT in a few weeks to do the same sobo hike. Questions: Did you use Farout for your hike? What was the longest water carry What are the logistics, airport, shuttle, etc., of getting to and from both terminus's? I'll be flying in from Kentucky. Thank you!! ~Siesta
Hi Siesta! That's super exciting that you're planning to do the AZT! I am going to give you a link to the first of 7 detailed blogs I wrote about my hike (each one covers a 100+ mile chunk of the trail) feel free to read those for more information about my logistics, water carries, terrain, resupplies, etc. I did use Far Out for this hike and I found it very helpful. shetreks.co/iveys-trip-reports/the-arizona-trail-utah-to-the-south-rim-of-the-grand-canyon

That was wonderful! I look forward to heading SOBO this fall. Can you explain the ending tribute to persons that died in the desert?

Not that the music is bad but we’re drowning in it.
