    In the beginning of this video I was thinking " Oh great, another instant hydroponicist" but then I watched the rest. Your point on roots are very valid " coming from this old timer" I even posted a video on cutting 2/3rds of my roots and its effects and made a follow up video so far. Why I started to focus on roots is when 20 gallons of my reservoir ended up on my carpets due to roots clogging my drains many moons ago... till this day, dying off or cutting of roots has remained a passe or a no no in conversation. but it is those that actually DO it , that see what the real results are without being a parrot or victim to old school "beliefs". I normally don't take this much time to comment on a video, but from what i've seen tonight, you deserve a hat's off to your efforts. and its great seeing people actually shed light on the root structure as you have. I grow my seeds in small small small rockwool, and when i transplant i roll the roots instead of letting them straight down through the baskets. this encourages root growth and I've never been disappointed. I just wish i was young enough to have started indoor growing when the internet was around to have videos to back experiments. but what can I say, I was born well before the time of even digital cameras hahah, Again, great video!

    I'm a rookie at this and have been watching your videos learning tips and tricks. Your pace is rapid enough to hold my interest and I love the clear videos showing what's what. Today I learned to let the sprouts sit inside the starter cube a bit longer next time until more roots develop along the sides. Thanks for these videos.

      Everest Fernandez, Yes bloke, sometimes I have trouble keeping up with following your monologue and I'm a rapid thinker, so maybe a more prosaic delivery might be good - like when you emphasise with a humorous clichè as you often do. I'm just amazed that you can deliver the info with such gusto. Your knowledge and passion are clearly evident!!

    Everest Fernandez Hey Everest! Have a video recommendation for you. We have so many people coming into the store who want us to describe how to interpret the Spectrum Distribution Graphs for the different grow lights...and we always end up confusing them ;) A short video showing how to read the graphs, what the peaks and valleys mean, along with the relative energy levels scales mean and what it means to your plants - would be super helpful. I'm sure you'd be able to whip out a quick video on that topic no problem ;) It would sure help us in the store! Keep on keeping on! When's the next video coming out? :)

  • @XionTRAX
    @XionTRAX 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Geat job although I have one problem with your standpoint It is true that air pruned plants have a better root structure compared to aeroponic cloning but it don't matter if you are going for a full soilless medium with for example nft or a deep water system only using clay pebbles because you can relatively early transplant them into those systems without needing a air pruned plant ^^
    and might i ask when your Led grow tests are done?
    and also if you could check out electrolytes to raise the o2 lvl in the water by splitting H2o compared to "nano bubble" water pump technology were you mix o2 gas or air into the water in the pump.
    keep the great work up ^^

      What you appear to lose in prop you`ll gain two or three fold in veg ;) Nothing more pitiful than a big netpot with a single root hanging out the bottom ;)

    I've always found that using rock wool cubes was great for pruning as well. However I just use the small ones once true leaves show they go into the DWC system, root mass is always full by he end so I think that's a good starting spot. From there run side by sides to see how that works compared to the smaller plugs.

    Killer video man! I believe I watched a diff video from you last year too. I love how you get to the point. I'm not into hydroponics yet (my wife already doesn't like me using the basement to seed start) but maybe in the future. I'll have to figure out where I could do it. I may start using rock wool on my transplants.

      Thanks a bunch! I guess I'll put my other plants between the fan and the basil then. I have another question, I'm growing mint as well and even though its growing fast and bushy, its leaves fold downwards and feel dry on the edges, and I can't seem to figure out what it is. What does that usually say?

    Everest, have you any thoughts on biochar? I'd also like to encourage you to bring your efforts to say a website other than just youtube where other can converse with you about different gardens. Secondly have you or do you take stock in this question rolling around gardening sites of plastic pots being ok for edibles veggies etc etc, I'd prefer fabric pots indoors but they can be pricey in my location.

    I have yet to see a side by side comparison of a tomato plant in the ground and one in an Air-Pot.
    Size, production, water usage, etc.
    Everyone says air-pruning is best but I have yet to SEE any comparisons.
    Seems to me that the plants spend a lot of energy growing roots and not as much growing fruit.

    Everest, I am trying to get cucumbers going, but it seems like I am waiting forever to get the sprouts to look nice and strong like yours (around 4:00 into this video). Mine have lots of roots poking out everywhere, but the plants themselves are not nearly as developed as yours (only one true leaf on mine) and the stems are not as thick or long. I started these from seed exactly two weeks ago, and I have resisted putting them into the system, but it seems like their second true leaves just don't want to do anything more than poke out a little. They still look healthy, and the cubes are still damp to the touch. Do I just need to wait longer? I want to transplant them into 4x4 cubes after this.
