none of the above worked for me. but finally got pisd off and just rotated the laptop (not the screen) to right and left potrait.. suddenly that rotation lock become active on the right rotated mode. i pressed the auto rotate off and then flipped the screen to landscape.. Voila..

My god. It did worked for me too.
I set to landscape flipped, physically flipped my laptop and rotation lock was able to be disabled.

We don't want to play with registery, It should only be used for checking inconvenience in operation.
or you just do not need to do all these, just go to nvdia settings & change orientation there
only for minority of w$ users who insist on using their monitors in portrait mode....
SET ROTATION LOCK TO ON MODE. Then it lets you to change it to landscape mode. Everything back to normal. Then you are done.
