    The Kawachi family of Japanese sword smiths has been a famous sword smith family for 16 generations. Kunihira, the 15th generation of the Kawachi family, father of Shimpei, is certified as a Mukansa (non-judgeable level), the highest level of swordsmithing. He and his apprentices continue to make great swords today, reviving a technique that was not passed down and had ceased to exist.
    Supporting their family, Simpei is spreading the value of not only his own family, the Kawachi family, but also Japanese swords themselves to the world.
    In recent years, older swords are often regarded as more valuable and less expensive. However, even today there are many swordsmiths who make Japanese swords with great skill. Although swords may seem expensive at first glance, we believe that the long time, expensive materials and equipment required to create them should be appreciated as art pieces.
    Due to the changing times and wars up to now, many times the technique of making Japanese swords has been restricted and the skills have been lost. We hope that the world will appreciate and support the legitimate value of these art pieces in order to pass on their lives and the modern art pieces that make them in the modern age.
    We plan to support the Kawachi family and other swordsmiths by selling swords all over the world, and related projects. Please subscribe and keep up with the latest news.

    Why are japanese swords checked without the hilt attached? To clean the oil under the handle parts?
    This was really interesting and it was sort of a big surprise to me when he spoke English just like that. I've been led to believe that it's a bit of a rare thing for a Japanese person to speak English.
    The craft is truly beautiful, the decorations and details are so neat. And it's interesting they paid attention to moon's highest point as well. Traditionally here in west I believe we've paid attention mostly to the sun's movements throughout the year and the phases of the moon, but watching the moon like that as well is new to me. I'm truly a sucker for craft where the artist has put all of their spirit into it and for example like in this case draws inspiration from nature.
    I think everyone I've known has appreciated Japanese swords more than western swords. Western swords are sometimes like mauls, sometimes like decorative pieces or some sort of spears for impaling. However Japanese swords are made by great deal of mastery and tradition, with utmost care and honor in the skill, to be fantastic at cutting and for skillful swordsmanship. And they're simple, neat, beautiful in that pure way. Not flashy or tactless. In a way humble but full of beauty. I feel like most people wouldn't care about collecting western swords, but people buy decorative cheap katanas to make their home more beautiful.

      Japanese sword are appreciated without the fittings mainly to enjoy the entire blade free of anything, as well the tang and area just above the tang have important details about the sword as well. And yes it’s easier to clean and view the sword details and hamon free from oil

    ive got a keicho-genna era hizen-to that has alot of similarity to the koto yamashiro rai school. even back in the very early edo period smiths wer doing their best to make blades in the old almost forgotten traditions. the jihada is a mix of a very tightly forged ko-hada or konuka-hada with spots of mokume mixed in. the hamon is a very uniform suguha with no ashi. its a pretty stout blade the nagasa is just over 21 inches. its a big wakizashi with a modest sugata. i rescued it from a military antique store.

    Mukansa is more accurately translated as "does not require judgement/examination (for exhibition)" instead of "cannot be judged".

    If you know the end result in advance, then it’s not art. It is craft. No matter how amazing it is, it’s still craft and in no way is that an insult. It can be artistic. But it’s not art. Art can show craftsmanship, but it’s not craft. It’s art.

      Bro they prolly live in Japan and you can take trains all over, you live in Northern California around Sacramento I would bet cause people don't say hella unless they are from here but Japan is not a large country and most developed countries have much better mass transportation then we got here

    • @yllare
      @yllare 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@robdeskrd sorry bro but your guess isn't even in the same country XD but that's an interesting observation I'll take note of. also whether it's within country or overseas, traveling anywhere costs losta money. I've been to Japan meself and tho their trains and bus system makes getting from point A to point B convenient, it is by no means cheap.
