I was a student at West Virginia University in November 1970. My older brother was a student at Marshall. I'll never forget that horrible night...where I was; what I was doing. I had a cousin who was in the West Virginia National Guard and was on the recovery team.
I live in Huntington as well....I also have family in this town....This scene always brings tears to my eyes....It really did hurt the whole town....This town has never been the same....We will never forget....WE ARE MARSHALL!!!!!!😢😢😢😢
I think what Jack Lengyel said to Don Dedmon was this. "When I look at Marshall, I don't just see an opportunity to coach football. I see an opportunity to do some good. I see an opportunity to help a community heal."
I live in Huntington and attend Marshall university , it’s more than just 12 football games a season, it’s a reason for the town to continue, the entire town is as much a part of the team as the actual players are
It may be a crappy video, but this is the best scene in the movie. Chokes me up every time. I think about the people I have lost and those I couldn’t stand to lose, and I understand the need to see if I can help too.
Beautiful acting and editing. It's impossibly hard to really do justice to the loss sustained by that town, but this scene hits the mark and then some. I'm sure when they first screened this, even the people involved with the movie were moved. God Bless all of them, then and now.
You can tell watching this, McConaughey just did whatever he wanted and wasn’t directed. He’s given great performances sometimes - and sometimes he over does it. I hated his performance in this film.
"Maybe I Can Help" A phrase i think we all could learn and benefit from today
❤

This scene will never get old - the look at the end says it all

instablaster...
Yeh mothman and Marshall hold up the town
What's amazing is that in this day and age, a story of basic human decency and character seems so extraordinary.
"Maybe I can help"---Jack lengyel
"Love your Neighbor as yourself"---Jesus Christ
My family still lives near huntington. I cant watch this movie without crying.

What I loved was there was no angle. Just a guy that wanted to help because he had sympathy.
Best scene in the movie IMO.
The whole movie chokes me up.
Without a dought, the deepest, sincerest, most poignant scene in the movie. What words to get the job,ín this informal interview!
Two great actors nailing it
@2:45 the music starts to flow away🥹🥺ahhh that hits me
The one where he talks to Redd about the train and it derailing us also a good one. One day it will be about winning football games.

Never been there but knew the story, then this movie. Indelible.
Best scene in the movie. Hands down.
Along with Bobby Bowden one
powerful --- I was 10 when this happened and just started following and understanding the game in 69
Some of David Strathairn & McConaugheys very best acting. Davids acting is so underrated in this movie
The acting in this movie is superb
This is supposed to be in Wooster Ohio. It is a beautiful small city and college, I go there very often.
David Strathairn is an entirely underrated actor.
Epic scene
I like how he says lost one showing even losing one family member would would hurt him deeply
He deserves to be in the hall of fame
I fell in love with Matt when I saw this wonderful movie. I always cry🥲
And....he got the job.
I wonder: In real life, did Jack Lengeyl speak out of the side of his mouth? Because McConaughey did that the entire movie. Drove me nuts.
Pretty sure that's just a thing McConaughey does. I've seen him do it in other movies
2:11 I love how his voice breaks for just a second.
The two biggest annoyances in life - One: Jock Itch. Two: Posting stuff you filmed on your phone from your TV.
Such simple things. Because I thought I could help. Nobody talks like that anymore.
1 ounce of help is worth a more than a TON of pity - always
I have family that lives in Huntington west Virginia
😭. Great scene 👏
Your hired!!!
"I called you". Something that would never happen in today's world.
And help he did!!!!!
This looks recorded right off the TV 😂😂😂
"GOD" is speaking to him
No
Virginia needs better pilots

Probably just a WVU troll
This terrible video quality totally ruined this scene👎👎👎👎👎
