    I'm impressed with your graphics work! Thanks for the warning, so I didn't fall off my chair when I saw them.
    I'm always looking at rocks with the thought out tumbling them. Those are some beautiful agates, but a lot of them have really deep pits or are just weirdly shaped. They'd be a challenge to tumble, but doing a face polish on a cab machine would probably work well. Do you polish any?
    That's a really, really nice of banded chert. That will tumble great.
    Could be a pseudomorph agate you found there. Since I have only found one, I'm sure not enough of an expert to know.
    Hey, that's Bryan Major in a picture with your mom! Matrix too!

    • @denisthemineralist4033
      @denisthemineralist4033  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, those agates are not only a pain to tumble because of the skeletal shape of some of them, but they also tend to fracture quite a bit even when you find some good solid ones. I'm trying a vibratory tumbler right now, but so far the best solution I've found is the cab machine for sure.
      The chert down there is INSANE, and I'm not a big chert fan. But I'll put some of that Louisiana chert up against any banded chert on this planet for tumbling. I have another video worth of stuff from that same area to edit up. I'll pop some more of the better cherts we've found in there when I post it.
      I'm glad you were blown away by my awesome computer graphics. LOL! I'm not going to be working for Pixar anytime soon, but sometimes I just feel the need to explain things in a way I can't do with hand gestures. :D
      And yeah, that's Bryan and Matrix. We've done a couple digs with them over the last 2 years and will probably do some more. Hopefully our paths will cross again this fall for some more digs as he starts heading westward.

      @dustinfindsrocks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah they need some special attention for tumbling. I’ve seen good results with larger pieces cut into even sections. You are correct the odd shapes and pits are problematic

      Thank you so much for the encouragement! It really is a process trying to find one's "style" when making videos (and a lot more planning than I originally imagined). I'm feeling like my style will be to put out slightly less videos than most but with more information rather than just spitting out a vid a day with no substance. We'll see how it goes. I have about 5 more videos worth of footage that I'm editing now so it should keep me busy for a few weeks! I really do appreciate having you as a subscriber!

    As a Louisianan and a Louisiana agate lover… you just got a new follower! I often find agates at the base of old tree’s and the magnolia root’s. My theory to that is the tree’s push them up as the grow. 5:14 oh man I love agates with pocket’s! Happy birthday to your mom and nice huge agate!!!

    • @denisthemineralist4033
      @denisthemineralist4033  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome! Thanks for the encouraging words! I can see your theory about the tree roots being legit. Those gravels are under the soil literally everywhere over there, so anything that would push material up with it would certainly do the trick.
      if you like agates with pockets, I should have some winners to share here soon - we're getting ready to do a trip through New Mexico, up to Montana, and over to Lake Superior. If I don't find some good, pocketed agates in all of that, then I'm not trying! The ones in Montana have LOTS of good pockets - crystals, botryoidal chalcedony, you name it.

      No worries. We're back all the time. I tried to reach you, but it was VERY short notice.
      Next time we're headed to your neck of the woods, I'll try to give you a little more warning!
      By the way, did you see the other vids I posted with the Texas agates? If you find yourself headed MY way, do drop me a line!

    Is there a place to bring the kiddos to hunt for agates and Fossils. Or it is just by the rivers ect. My youngest would love to this most likely I live out side of Baton Rouge

      There are two main places we find them in abundance that I think the kids could hunt safely:
      One is actually the gravel bars on the rivers as there are many that are very flat and safe and located next to places where the rivers and streams are relatively calm. In fact in some places where we've hunted these, we've had to work around all the kids there that were playing in the water. Most of the land along the rivers in Louisiana seems to be occupied with commercial gravel pits, so for the BEST conditions, I'd highly recommend making the quick jaunt up across the Mississippi border to the Homochitto River. From Baton Rouge, you can be there in an hour and half tops. Where Mississippi HWY 33 crosses the river and where US 98 crosses it are two really big gravel bars you can get onto from the road (just observe any posted signs for the property along the river). I find much better stuff at the US 98 crossing. Halfway between those roads is a creek called Brushy Creek that usually has great gravel, and the water is clean, cool, and shallow - people bring their kids there to play in the water all the time. Robertson Rd. runs just south of the Homochitto River at that point and goes over Brushy Creek at the perfect spot right before it joins the river. The only thing to look out for there is the sand right next to the water, as your feet can sink in it a bit. For an adult it's no problem, but for toddlers and small children they may get stuck and lose their shoes! There are other calm creeks all throughout that area so Google Maps can help you find others. Just make sure they are public access and not private (they'll usually be posted if so).
      The other is gravel roads. Many lonely gravel roads in that part of Louisiana get no traffic at all, or at best one vehicle every 20 minutes or so. You can hear them a mile off, so you have time to move safely off to the side as they pass. We do a lot of our hunting on the sides of the roads, and if an occasional car or truck comes by, they usually stop to talk to us and tell us where we can find even better rocks. I bring friends and family with their kids from time to time to hunt gravels roads and I just keep the youngsters near myself or another adult. I never park on a blind hill or a curve, so that I can always see anything coming from a good distance. The gravel roads up in the Homochitto National Forest in Mississippi also have good material and have very little traffic if any. And I usually see plenty of wildlife, which I know the kids love.
      Good luck to you on your hunts! I hope you guys find a bunch of stuff!

      There are some jaspers scattered in the gravels there, but I haven't found too many that are good enough quality to be keepers. The banded chert, however is crazy! I'm going to show some of it off in my next video from this location.

    300-400 million years old agates? That’s pretty difficult in a world that’s 6-8,000 years old.

      What I mean is; I don’t flaunt my beliefs in your face, I get tired of people flaunting theirs in mine.
      Evolution and millions of years are based on very weak evidence given the most recent scientific findings. Since neither of us was there, let’s leave religion on the sidelines.
