- Former England international Rob Burrow - who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in 2019 - has died at the age of 41.
In 2001, Burrow began what would be a 16-year professional career, mostly spent with Leeds Rhinos in rugby league's Super League. He went on to make 400 appearances.
He retired in 2017 but two years later it was revealed Burrow had been diagnosed with MND and, after he raised millions to help build a new care centre for MND patients alongside former team-mate Kevin Sinfield, his death was confirmed by his former club on Sunday evening.

RIP Rob. Motor Neurone Disease is an awful disease that strips the person of who they once were. I lost my Dad to MND 13 years ago and unfortunately there still isn't enough being done with treatment and care for patients. More research must take place to help find treatment and hopefully one day find a cure. My thoughts are with Rob's family and friend's at such a heart breaking time.
So sorry for your loss. Such a cruel disease.

he was a champion on and off the pitch ... even what he achieved after he was diagnosed with this terrible illness was truly world class .. its so sad that a great human being passed away so early.... he touched so many lives through all that he did .. RIP Rob X

I have so much admiration for this man, his wife, children, kevin Sinfield and the entire Rugby league community in the way they faced up to this awful illness and raised so much awareness and much needed finances to help tackle MND. RIP 🙏
I wish this video had showed a bit more of him on the pitch in his prime. Rugby League, his passion, is sometimes accused of being big blokes running into each other without much skill.
Years back, I help my girlfriend collect for charity in Rob's town after the ladies we kept an eye on got too old.
I set off one Saturday morning to drive the half hour from home. I was thinking that I would be going to the estate of a work colleague who had lived behind my girlfriend and that he now lived next to Rob.
I turned on Radio 5 and because I had been listening to rugby league on it the night before, up came Eamonn Holmes and he was talking live with Rob.
I later spoke to Rob as we went door to door and told him what happened. Despite supporting a rival club, I wished Leeds well and said that although St Helens beat them the night before, I would expect Leeds to win the Grand Final after the weird way things happened on the way there. I should have bet on it as Leeds did win, with a good deal of effort from Rob.
I was really upset, like anyone who knew Rob, to hear he was ill. I would never have wished that his charity efforts would have been in such circumstances, but he put the same effort into it as he did on the pitch. Best wishes to all who knew him better than me and I hope that his family will be able to draw strength from his determination in years to come.

Was ☆Rob one of the bravest men in the world? WW2 spirit of the brave fallen was strong in him. Last time i felt this moved & touched was when brave 3 🦁 Bobby Moore died too young.
Rugby Leagues GOAT is out of pain & has moved onto his after life. So Brave. I liked him a lot.
He is the GOAT RL guy cuz he was an average height average wieght guy who ran rings around literal 6ft 4in Giants.

i feel your pain as my Mam past away march 2022 my stepdad last july 2023 i am not writing this to my selfish

He was diagnosed with the disease in 2019, well before the vaccine. But this would be a wonderful opportunity to remind you that in Psychiatry there is a condition known as 'perseveration.' A pathological inability to respond flexibly to changing situations. For example, having found an approach that works for one problem, subjects seem to get stuck and will inappropriately apply it to a second problem that requires a different approach, or having answered one question correctly, will give the same answer again and again. Do get help for your condition.
Such a shame, so sad. And shout out to James Peacock, what a mate for Rob to have. Two fantastic men.
