I missed these old Damon and Jo Videos. I love them so much better than the Dare to Travel ones. I don't even care if they're shaky.

    More Free/Cheap Downtown LA Recommendations:
Grand Park: it's free, it's beautiful, it has a fountain you can walk in. Need I say more?
Upstairs at the Ace Hotel: It's a gorgeous rooftop pool and bar with incredible views of the skyline (and beautiful people). A can of the house beer only costs $4.
Water Court: You guys walked through it toward the beginning of this video. They have a free outdoor summer concert and film screening series.

I used to work right across the Disney concert hall and lived like only 3 blocks away. I used to walk 5 or 6 blocks to get the bus to go back home just so I could walk around that plaza you guys showed and also used to go to the library. It is also free! This video brought back so many memories. You guys definitely did what I used to do. It's not so hard to be on a budget in DTLA

i really love how flexible you guys are with money spending & saving in general. As well as being manageable to travel & still have fun, proving the excuse that "you need to be extremely rich to travel" wrong.

  • @TylerFurstoss
    @TylerFurstoss 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes exactly what I needed! The city I go to school in sometimes has free peddle beer cart rides. It's BYOB and you peddle around with friends to different bars. You get a workout while spending less at the pubs since you're already sucking down the wine/beer you got for half the price at the store.

Was just about to tell you guys about Watercourt when all of a sudden you were there haha! The park that you guys got a quick shot of at 2:54 is where 500 Days of Summer was filmed! Sadly it's all fenced off, but it smells kinda funky there, so I guess getting a glimpse of it is good enough. GCM is great and so cute!! Get the PAPUSAS! I dream of running into you guys around LA one day!!

Other fun places to visit for free in downtown LA are the Bradbury building, the downtown public library, take a walk through the Biltmore hotel, and visit city hall, where you can take the elevator to the top for the most gorgeous view.

They have $1 bacon donuts in little Tokyo $1.50 mochi ice cream (a couple of blocks away from the last book store). Also the Daiso there is pretty cool. And the arts district is great place to get FREE pics of yourself on your phone. And every 2nd Thursday of the month there is a DTLA art walk. :)

  • @mildpinkhues

    - the bradbury building
    - city hall, you get a cool view of the city from the top
    - moca (all locations) is free on thursday's after 5pm
    - art galleries in chinatown, the arts district
    - the public library. plus, they have cool exhibits and ceiling envy!
    - ride the elevators at the bonaventure hotel
-union station/placita olvera (old school l.a. / roots of los angeles)
p.s. why can't ya'll be my friend, love your show!

When you carry money, you aren't carrying something that represents gold anyway. We don't run on a gold standard anymore. :)
Best free/cheap things I like to do in L.A. are going to the beach, hang out and people watch in Hollywood, go to tapings and things like that. In my town of Huntington Beach though, Tuesdays and Saturdays there are market things around Main St. and the PCH where you can get street food, see local artists, hear some music, check out the beach, ride your bike, all kinds of things.

Have you guys been to the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Nuart Theatre in LA?? It's seriously one of my favorite things to do in LA and it's so great because that movie is the longest running-midnight movie of all time (they show it every Saturday night at midnight). Like seriously, my mom who is 57 years old went to the show all the time when she was 18 and has some amazing memories from it. It's a really hard concept to explain going to the show because you really really have to experience it yourself but I'm telling you it's soo much fun and completely crazy. The tickets are only $10.50 which is a little bit but not too bad and understandable because it's really expensive to keep the show running there at the theatre. Like nobody who works there gets payed, they all just do it because they love it. I would seriously recommend going there and experiencing the craziness that it is yourself.

20 seconds into the video and I am laughing like crazy remembering the "shaky" video and being all like "damn!!! I don't care if it shakes as long as they keep uploading amazing info!!". But I had to stop the video to prepare myself to watch it slowly... As I said before I met you guys like last Saturday - and by met I mean I found about this channel and HAVEN'T been able to leave it ever since! :) I can proudly say I have watched ALL THE VIDEOS, even the ones in french to which I really needed the CC translation to and loved EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM! Today I told my students about the one where you guys try the box with food from Paris (saying it like this sounds like a Friends episode, doesn't it?) and they asked to watch it, so I'll show them the video tomorrow IN CLASS! (forgot to say I'm an English teacher)
Sorry for the long-ass comment, I'll go back to watching the video and as usual: BEIJOS do Rio :*

Great place to go for clothes in DTLA is the fashion district. Don't let the bougie exterior fool you, the finds there can be remarkable. where I live in jacksonville one cheap thing to do is go to Chamblin Bookmine and you can trade in books you already own for credit to get more books so in some cases it is free but they also have cheap books you can just buy and a free place to go and have fun is the Jax beach cause there is cheap parking and you can even get away with no fee parking depending where you park and you can also go to Riverwalk and see the Riverside Arts Market (free) but it is only active from March to December on Saturdays from 10AM to 4PM. Those are the only things i know of but if you wanna window shop and have fun that way there are a lot of places to go.

    Damon and Jo:
Before I start, I just want to say that I love you guys. I have so much admiration for what you do and who you are. You have an air of uniqueness and confidence that cannot be found in many individuals these days.
That being said, I'm planning on traveling this summer, after graduating high school. I would love to go to Europe, and experience the culture and beauty of at least a few countries. I have minimal skill in Spanish, but no other language besides English. Also close to 3k.
SO: Where should I go? Where has the best food and drink? Easiest places to travel with minimal language skill?
Any sort of advice helps.. thanks!

If yall ever get the chance on chicago you can go to the Hancock Center the bar on the 95th floor gives you a great view of the city (similar to going to the Willis tower) or you can go to the Promontory Point (breathtaking view). Hit up the Lincoln Park Zoo for free all year round. Millennium Park usually host free events (plays, concerts, etc.)

I guess your video highlights one of the pluses of LA compared to NY. Things may be spread out but there are cool pockets that offer their own interesting experiences (and in this case, mixture of food) without massive crowds and noise (though the cheaper food court was busier). Like that first spot would be packed in NY and would look a lot dirtier. Also, comparing the Last Bookstore to Strand in NY, there is actually plenty of space to walk, Strand is just an endless sea of people and you're stressed out when you should be feeling relaxed since it's a bookstore.

À Québec, dans le quartier Saint-Roch, il y a des jardins publics cachés entre 2 rangées de maisons, et peu de gens le savent ;) Also, you can just walk the historic center of the town and see houses and castles built 250 years ago. It's FREE and it keeps you HEALTHY ;)
