Carl thank you for standing up for us. As a fellow LAC with a disability I can remember telling my boss that the day IA became a part of the system would be my last day because I refuse to work in that system.
It was the hardest conversation we had to have and she just nodded and went “I wouldn’t blame you mate let hope they stop it”

This is such an important message to send out! It’s very disappointing that the government don’t really care about genuinely supporting Australians who need NDIS services. The “liberal” government seem to care more about spending as little money on services that actually matter, like the NDIS, Medicare and Centrelink and more about providing the bare minimum for people who are struggling.

Sorry about you have to lose job over this. Thanks for taking a stand and making this video. I been heard about the negativity over independent assessments there and here. I hate to think that NDIS will not ask open-ended questions. Every person is unique, up to this point, I been listened to and would be hate to think I will be told what I need.

The worst thing is, Carl has to take it sitting down!
But seriously, I'm applying for the NDIS and have already ran a search for what independent assessment company I want to do the work. I have an investigations background and have already nailed down the actual assessor I want. Whether I can get them or not is a different matter but I don't think the changes are all too bad (although I don't have the experience to say). They seem like the perfect person for myself.
In regards to funding, I see some of these 'support costs' and I want to absolutely smash the suppliers in the face. I imported a new CPAP machine (I've removed the GST component) and including shipping, I paid $370AUD. The cost here from an official supplier is $1300-2600!
I bought a massage chair to try and get some relief from a not-at-fault traffic crash, cost out of the factory is $450. I paid $850 delivered to my door. Cost here from a business in a shopping centre is $4-4.5k!
If the NDIS started finding out what supports are needed in mass quantities, then it'd be easier and cheaper to just do deals with various factories and get equipment sent out direct.
Unfortunately with any large scheme like this, pissing in pockets happens so often some people must be getting golden showers every day!
There are supports I deserve, supports I need, supports I want and supports I can 'meet' what's required with a cheaper option. All a bit of give and take. Unfortunately the NDIS hasn't got unlimited funding but I think they need to keep an open mind and allow those of us with quite a lot of intelligence to try and guide the scheme.

  • @RegularAlison

Thanks for this educational video - I'm an OT who hasn't worked with the NDIS yet, but the company I work for was really pushing to have these independent assessments done. Nobody has really put any actual NDIS participants on a platform to broadcast their opinion on this topic, so your opinion is definitely food for thought. I don't know exactly what the assessment would entail, but for me as a practicing OT I really wouldn't be comfortable avoiding asking someone about their goals and what supports they feel they need.

my appointed LAC blatantly lied (several times) in front of myself, my sister and my advocate during our 3 hour planning meeting. During the meeting (which she knew was being recorded), she stated, " you'll get this, that, X, Y, this amount, etc.). When my plan and funding came through, I initially (and stupidly) thought they had mixed up cases, but no, despite 3 hours of note taking and several detailed medical reports, she managed to condense my activities, disability, needs, goals, etc. down to 1/2 a page of inaccuracies, and the funding was no where near what she had promised. When I finally spoke to her, she said (on speaker phone to me and my advocate), " well you're lucky to get that, and if you don't think it's correct, put in a 'request for review' ". How about you do your bloody job properly and not stuff me around, AGAIN !!!!

This shit is literally made to fuck over us with invisible disabilities. Like I’m level 2, pushing level 3, autistic and just because I can mask my disability a lot of the time and don’t have any obvious physical signs that I’m disabled, that doesn’t mean I’m any less disabled and I’m not fucking STRUGGLING inside and don’t need accommodations. Literally this method is gonna involve me literally having to like... perform my disability in front of someone which is so, so dehumanising as if I need that from a system meant to help me after constantly being dehumanised by society my whole life.

Independence is a wonderful thing. good on you Carl for saying it. I agree totally with you. I think the name they chose for the assessment is misleading. It is cruel to put people through this again in what will be another failed exercise. The stakes are too high when it comes to taking support away. I see so many people with disabilities missing out on adequate funding. This is where they need to spend more time with some sort of safety net.

The independent assessments is a cynical grab by the government, which is happy to channel NDIS money to their mates, but not to the people with disability. Remember, we all vote.

I join an organization called nova employment they say they want to help disabled people get a job but really they just want to rob us by taking half of our average rage for them selves from our jobs. They told me to give up on my dreams which cause me to have a major meltdown and felt like committing suicide. They promised me they would help me to achieve my goal only to be stabbed in the back. I tried to warn people the truth and spoke to a psychologist only he told me to forgive them like it's an accident, it was no accident they didn't even apologies for what they did to me.
It feels like that psychologist and the government are trying to cover it up and shut me up to not tell the truth about nova. All I could say I was never the same again I don't trust anyone anymore whenever I hear an organization say they want to help disabled I doubt they ever want to help us. Nobody listen to the warning

I'm homeless thanks to the NDIS. They refuse to make any modifications to any rental property I can afford. The DSP doesn't cover the cost of rent what I need. I've asked for SDA and Sil funding every six months in my goals. They take it out of my goals and forget about it now I'm homeless without even a bathroom to use. Thank you NDIS for making me take you to the AAT and fight for three years for a wheelchair. Thanks for ignoring the disability housing shortfall. No rental properties with the facilities I need. Thanks for the PTSD. If you don't stop leaving me screwed. If the ndia can't even find you bathroom facilities you feel less than a second class citizens. Thanks to the ndia for doing everything completely opposite to what I need. Thanks for the experience of all the consequences that I warned you would happen. Thanks for making me sick

  • @ausforaus7617

The NDIS does not cost the government anything. It channels money through people with disability into the economy. Nobody with a disability gets the money. However, the mates of the government who get the contracts certainly do. The money that is used to employ support workers, pay OTs, Physios, and buy equipment etc goes into the economy and is taxed. The money circulates and is taxed again and again and again ..... Politicians either do not understand this, but I suspect they do ...... so this is a cynical political grab to appease the general community who have no time for people with disability and certainly do not understand government financing.
..... and yes, it is not as simple as that, but the basic premise is correct.

At the moment they have just been “paused” and not shelved, so I can’t help but think they are just in damage control in response to the leaked documents from the past few weeks. When they truly dump the proposed changes, and commit to co-designing a new planning process with Disabled People’s Organisations, that’s when I will be happy and that’s when I'll be more than happy to work collaboratively with them.

I have to rant. Warning: Very long
So it's now 2023 and I'm not renewing my NDIS services until my family gets involved and has a go at these NDIS people for me.
The NDIS has this big list of supports but what they will never tell you is what you won't receive, until your assessment is processed. The NDIS also doesn't respect medical professionals. The NDIS also violates human rights and allows for abuse of people with disability. There is no compassion, you get a plan but no actual assistance. You have to know the right words, the right questions, the right language, or you get nothing. My family thinks highly of the NDIS. Next week or even week after, they will not be thinking so.
I find it disgusting that most local area coordinators think that permanent disabilities aren't permanent. They also disrespect medical advice and try to contradict what doctors and myself say to these idiots. The LACS also deliberately misinterpret the NDIS guidelines and other rules in order to control what does and does not go into my NDIS plan. I don't have choice and control over my plan. That's a lie.
I have also discovered that the budget I'm told I've got, isn't the actual amount that I need. I have been getting less funds for years by being told that I have so many hours of support funding in Core Supports each week. I come to find out that actually, the support funding is miscalculated so I'm rcving less support than what I'm told I'll receive. Then I'm blamed. Blamed for being blind. Blamed for developing mental illness. Blamed for so-called "over-budgeting". It's apparently my fault that I use too much funding because I'm blind and need support or I can't function independently. The NDIS obviously doesn't see it that way. According to the NDIS, I have no disability, I'm apparently faking and using the system. All this despite numerous documents and doctor's appointments. So that means I'm supposedly lying to my doctors and they are lying to me. I honestly can't believe the conclusions the NDIS have come to about me. They've chosen to delete all my information so they can blame me for something they've done wrong. The NDIS makes a mistake, I'm apparently a liar and a con. No! The NDIS deleted my information, not me. My doctors can't even have a decent discussion with the NDIS because apparently their training doesn't match NDIS criteria for reasonable and necessary supports. Even the police and a couple of psychiatrists can't get through to the NDIS.
I know now that the NDIS doesn't want me on their books. That's fine. I intend to sign up living in an aged care home. I hate the Government and I hate the NDIS. The NDIS want me in an aged care home. I don't really need my freedom. Now, I don't want freedom. I don't like it. I hope I get locked away soon. I don't like this society and this world is definitely not a beautiful place.
