  • Early morning autumn approach and landing on runway 26R of Berlin Tegel International Airport, TXL, EDDT, in Germany. Cockpit view Airbus A320. With ATC (air traffic control) audio. Produced in 4k.
Here is another video of an Airbus approach to runway 26R. It also highlights some landmarks during the approach: • Berlin Tegel airport, ...
During the next days (beginning of November 2020), the last flights will arrive and depart from Berlin Tegel airport. All the runways will be closed permanently. Only a helicopter base will remain.
All the other traffic will be moved to the "new" airport Willy Brandt Berlin Brandenburg International (BER). Berlin Tegel airport was built in 1948.
Tegel was very convenient for the traveler: Just a short bus or taxi ride from the city center and you could get from the bus stop to the airplanes in a few minutes.
After the closure of Tegel airport and the historic Berlin Tempelhof airport in 2008, Berlin has no airport anymore which is located close to the city center.
The new BER airport includes the grounds of the former Berlin Schoenefeld airport (SXF).

Tegel is my home airport I can see the planes from my balcony starting or landing I cried when I heard TXL is closing I hate BER so much because of that. Tegel is my Childhood Airport :(

Thanks for the comment! Great to hear that also people who live near TXL do not want to see the airport closed. That reflects the vote of the Berlin people who in majority voted for keeping TXL open. But the politicians did not want that and decided differently. I am very sure that lots of big cities would love to have Tempelhof or Tegel as city airports and never would even think about closing. Paris, London, Milan ... are all happy to have more than one airport.

      I fully agree.

Yes... I saw it also over my window, but I got tickets for the 3rd last flight to Tegel with a Airberlin plane.
      I miss Tegel ☹️

TXL was the best airport ever, a masterpice of the architects - a shame that it has be closed for ideological reasons against the will of the Berlin majority. I live in Spandau, at the former approach line, I was never distured by the planes, I loved it to see them approaching or taking off. Soon I will have my first flight from the (new) BER - when I will return I will land there, but I will not arrive. Farewell TXL! 😥

You passed right above the house where i used to live around 1 min before touchdown. The planes didn't bother me at all. I loved going to the window, looking after the planes. I selpt in summer with open windows, the planes never woke me up.
The reason why i moved away there has nothing to do with Tegel Airport.
I have so many memories related to this airport. Worked in the bakery in Terminal A (Maybe i served you coffee when you flew to TXL in 2017), met a friend from the USA there the first time, flew from there to my ex bf....and more. I cried while watching the livestream of the takeoff of AF1235 on Nov 8th 2020 at 15:39 CET.
RIP TXL. You'll be the airport of our hearts. Forever.

Thank you so much for your very personal insights and feedback! My understanding was always that lots of people who lived near and around the airport liked and loved it. Closing the airport was a political decision. It was a great airport! Other large cities like Paris, London, Rome, Milan .... have several airports that serve different purposes. Closing Tegel and Tempelhof would never have happened in those cities. Instead, they are proud to have multiple airports. It is very sad seeing these valuable airports closed now.

Bye bye Tegel. My only airport flying to Berlin. Good memories of saying “I’m home” every time I had landed. Tegel served well and now it will have a new beginning and a bright future😊

Sure, it is a new beginning with a bright future. I personally would have preferred to keep Tegel and/or Tempelhof open. Berlin now only has one airport. After closing Gatow (military), Tempelhof, and Tegel. A city of this size shall have more than one airport. But this is just my personal opinion as a pilot.

Sehr tolles Video, seh mein Haus xD!

:-( Nooooo. Because of BER opening?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, it is so sad! Long time ago, there was a political decision done that Berlin Tegel (TXL) had to be closed after the opening of BER airport. A part of the BER airport is the former SXF airport. BER is located in Schoenefeld, which belongs to Brandenburg. It is not located in Berlin! BER was opened on October 31st 2020 and a week later, all operation in TXL will end. Other big cities in Europe like their older airports which are close to the city center and keep them for regional traffic or general aviation: For example Milan Linate in Italy: Most of the traffic had been moved to Malpensa (MXP). But the LIN airport is still open and available at reduced capacity.

@@ApproachandDepartureVideos I know these airport things always surrounded by administrative problems. The typical "building projects" in the old airports. Been to Tegel couple o itmes and I loved the vintage feeling and the simplicity to take the bus, subway and being in downtown in no time. Wedding will miss the approaching aircraft sound.
