This one I did pretty quickly, the video editing especially, as you can tell on the ending. My FCP kept freezing while rendering and I started getting pissed off, so I just synced the starting and bounced it, so the syncing will be off before the end indefinitely. I recorded Soprano/Alto/Tenor in one afternoon, and Bass the next morning.
This arrangement was made popular by Manhattan Transfer. It was arranged by the Gene Puerling. This piece is an example of how much of a genius he truly was by making such amazing chords and voicings work with only four voices. Some of the most amazing things I've ever heard take place in this song, and my other recording "All The Things You Are" (Gene Puerling).
NO AUTOTUNING OR MELODYNE WAS USED IN THIS RECORDING. (because it is lame and ruins "authentic" music)

Dynamic, crazy pitch and tonality, just damn MAGNIFICENT.😎
I love A Capella singing. Your renditon is beautiful. I love your song choice.
Lorraine
I have no idea how you managed to keep the pitch steady four separate times through the entire song, but I have perfect pitch and let me say that you're just spot on.
Thanks! Considering it was 5 years ago and I was still (and am still) learning a lot, I'm glad to know I could please your ears!
I completely love the fact that people still believe in real music and are willing to pursue it...surely beats the crappy sell out music that people put out just so that they can be popular, only to have someone who's doing the same thing only in a SLIGHTLY different way replace them.
Keep it going!!!!!
How could anyone not like this? I'm a huge fan Danny - and I'm 67!!! Wonderful work, wonderful voice, extraordinary talent.
Music is so much stronger than words that my comment will be meaningless in comparison to the harmonious brilliance you display with your God-blessed talent. If only there was a more explicit phrase than "thank you". But such will be forced to suffice. Infinitely magical.
I've never heard any better a capella from one person. Thumbs up!
Danny Fong you are a genius! Please record more. Beautiful singing, production, and you REALLY enjoy what you do. Fantastic, and thank you so mych for sharing your talent.

I sang this for my grade 5 exam. I love your version. One of my fav songs!!!
From someone with absolute pitch who sings a lot of a capella music, as far as I'm concerned there are no pitch issues. This guy is very good.
So, I'm just gonna listen to this over and over again all day. K?
top shelf as always - your work is not only a joy to hear, but gives us wannabes a chance to sing along
A good as Manhattan Transfer. Well done.
Very well done sir. Brings back wonderful memories of singing this in HS with our small a-cappella group. Same arrangement as well.
Danny, Fantastic. Have seen groups try it, but you nailed it. Yes, 4 Freshmen and Hi Lo. I remember them so well. Thanks a ton. Real music!!!!!
My schools Chamber Choir performed this at the fall concert. What a lovely piece
This is one of my favorite Manhattan Transfer songs....
I love theirs, and I love yours.
Very nice! Great tonal quality....BRAVO!
Fabulous!! One of the best performances I've come across. Keep up the great work!!
Bravo Danny! You have talent. When I was young we only dreamed of this type of technology.
Incredible song and a wonderful arrangement. Well done and keep up the good work! I happened upon your work just by chance - so glad I did. Thank you!
Wonderful. For a youngster to like this stuff AT ALL is great. And to perform it so well....!
wow!!!! Beautiful! I'm sure Janice would love to hear this!!!! You did an awesome job!
Such perfection!
Excellent! My
Favorite version By Manhattan Transfer has just been replaced!!!!
great job young fella you have a gift and great vocal tuning and range!
PHENOMENAL
Dan- I never thought I'd hear a version of this as pure as MH. I am blown away. Fantastic!
beautiful song, one of my favorites. and what wonderful work you do! thank you for making it available to all of us!
your singing is like a miracle to me - AWESOME!!!
Yep, Manhattan Transfers voices are unmistakable. They were an incredible group. The jazz harmonies they did made them stand out in a decade of remarkable voices. Thanks for the lip sync. Knowing how hard it would be to find a studio vid of them well you made it more alive by adding the video to it.
i love this song since i was a child, and THIS video is AMAZING ! what a voice....
Dan, your stuff is absolutely STUNNING! I'm not sure which intrigues me the most: the arrangements (I know, they're not yours); your range, from bass to falsetto; or the accuracy of your synchronisation between the parts.
Please keep them coming!!
Alan (in the UK)
also, fabulous falsetto! clear and resonant, quite nice.
Wonderful job on a great old song. Keep up the good work. Roy
Awesome! We sang this for IMEA Jazz... it's also the All-State piece.
I think it's referring to not "wrong notes" but some slight sharpness or flatness. The original by Manhattan transfer is not perfect, as is every recording I do and was done in the days before melodyne, and pitch correction. It's not meant to put shame to Manhattan Transfer, because when I refer to "minor pitch issues" it just so happens that they exist in every song, ever. However, when transcribing this, I found difficulties when MT drifted flat as a whole. They're in tune with each other...
@RCycleRider4Eva I agree, I shouldn't have written "tune" in the description. However, I was referring to mostly how they go about a semitone flat and end up overall flatter than the arrangement suggests. I know this because it was very difficult to transcribe. I had a very tough time differentiating which key they were singing in because they were about half way in between two keys. It doesn't mean they weren't in tune with each other, because they're still fantastic.
This is lovely! Your voice is fantastic!
Danis !! you are great !! AWSOME and so love it !!! look foward from all your updates!
Dan, I continue to be amazed by the combination of genius and talent you possess. I so look forward to your latest, and this was one from an all-time favourite group of mine for many, many years! Your rendition rivals M.T.'s for clarity, quality, precision, pitch, control..... Thanks Dan! from Darryl in Regina
Um...Anyone who listens to this and complains about some MINOR pitch issues that the average ear doesn't hear anyway, is way out of line. Whoever you are, you are amazing. I'm a giant fan of Puerling's arrangements, and you have knocked it out of the park. I'm subscribing...and posting on my fb for the sake of my students.
Thank you for being born.
Great buddy!I'm a french singer-composer so I can appreciate your work objectively(I try so!).Very nice interpretation.Honey for ears.Thanks...
Incredible. My choir attempted this in high school, and I have been looking for a recording (a good one) of this arrangement ever since! You nailed it! And I know how hard some of those chords are!
This is a truly captivating song (and difficult to do well) and one of my favorites. Thanks for another 5 glorious minutes.
I'm not a musical scholar like a lot of folks who hang out around all of this multitracking on here.... but WOW... that was outstanding
KING KONG FONG!!!! Excellent work young man!!
this was beautiful you made my night! Thank you! Keep doing what you'er doing you'er very talented..... I have a request The next song April in Paris!
holy shit I love this song, its one of those that my mother had on a tape and its always stuck to me
Wonderful job. One of my favorites. Nice homage to MT;)
It's amazing that you can do all of the different parts perfectly. You're really talented!
Bravo!!! ★★★★★
Almost did it like that of The Manhattan Transfer ---
You are very talented. ★★★★★
Amazing, you have such a range!! and such a beautiful voice. great harmonies. I'd love to sing with you :D Great job!!
Oh I love this song so much; we performed it in jazz band in high school. :3
I did have it - most of my albums got ruined as I left them in a damp garage. If it wasn't ruined it would now be in the shed. I won't promise but I made note to check it out. Yeah, the Hi-Lo's were great. One of my favorite tunes by them was "Small Frye", which I think you would have a blast with, and I think "Nightingale Sang..." was on one album I owned. I always enjoyed Mel Torme's rendition of Nightingale also, great song - you got taste.
Amazing pitch and range, great work
Nice job! Love your Scarborough Fair as well!
stematfis M and Soclus there is no way that this is lip syncing! Clearly Danny has transcribed the parts by ear. This is my favourite Manhattan Transfer song of all time. There are some parts missing and/or different voicing (probably being that Manhatten were 2 girls and 2 guys!) Danny I love your arrangements. I wish there was more vocal play like this. Nothing quite like A Capella tingling the spine. The best to sing in and the best to listen to. I hope you go places with it mate.
brought a tear to my eye! Excellent!
really enjoyed, thanks for sharing your talent
I fall in love with this song everything I hear it. Well done!!
Thanks! It's such a wonderful arrangement.
Wonderful job, the chords in this thing are insane, but amazing.
Omg! Unbelievably beautiful. The first few notes had my eyes and mind searching for evidence of your lip-syncing the Hi-Lo's, but it seems you're real. Man, if you never do anything else in your life, you have already reached the heights of some great four part harmony groups even if you are not recognized.
Your video by itself is a work of Art. You blew me away with that talent. Looking for more of your videos. I was researching the song when I found yours; I wasn't sure about the bridge.
love this!! terrific job, guy ... keep it up!!!
As close to perfection as can be attained, Danny Keep up the good work!
3:44 - on 'goodbye'.... beautiful. Shine on man, shine on.
congratulations dani, it's a fantastic performance!!!
Thank you my friend :), I'm glad you appreciate my hard work ^^
this is incredible. my a cappella group sang this piece. you do a pretty damn good job by yourself, though. and I concur - it's an amazing arrangement with just 4 parts.
AWESOME. You really did this song justice.
Mate, well done, this is both impressive and beautiful. TH-cam needs more people making music like this!
simply gorgeous ... it SO makes my day when you post a new work
thank you so much for sharing your obvious talent
This is wonderful! Good job, keep going. You have an amazing voice. And you did a super job on the multi-tracking. And I also loved the hat!!!
A fantastic rendition of a truly classical romantic song which will live on for ever. This tune was being played in dance halls not only in London but throughout Britain at a time of great danger for both London and Britain itself....from the spring of 1940 onwards throughout that dreadful wartime period.
I was so surprised! you are marvelous. I join in chorus group. I show this to members. I'm afraid I can not express this impression in English enough. End of all your song, you smiled. It was so cute.
Beautiful!!! :)
Utterly impressive and moving!
I am green with envy over your amazing falsetto! Your derrière must hurt after singing that high, lol! :P Loved it!
Absolutely fantastic!!!
I listened to this video a couple of months ago but I forgot to comment. Anyway I've listened to their (manhattan's) version a million times before. I like this song sung this way and you sung it in a more refined fashion. Hahaha you were probably not born yet when they recorded it. The BBD (bucket brigade) chip havent been invented yet. Now its used in almost every audio equipment. Keep singing its beautiful!
All I can say is WOW! I plan to buy a CD if you've one available. I want MORE - Beautiful.
Very well done, I hear you made a few good adaptations of the Mattson editing. Some chords make more sense now, as they did with Manhattan Transfer. (I had been re-transcribing too). And wonderful singing of course. I hope my choir can come even a bit close to that!
This is fantastic! I have to sing this for my Jazz choir audition, and I want to sing the Soprano or Alto part... You should record and post each of them individually so I can learn it...!
Stunning, as always.
Danny, this is my favorite recording of yours! I could listen all day
congrats again- great vocals, Danny!
this is sooo beautiful !
Danny Fong you da man baby
Another great one, Danny, bravo!!!
WOW!!!! Beautiful!!!!
Beauuuuuuuuutiful!!!! It is my favourite song too!
It's on the Singers Unlimited 'A Capella' Album in case you haven't found it.
No one knows how hard you and all your other friends ( JB, Andy, Sam, Evan, Simon ............ ) work. Its not even that you did the best version I've ever heard but the thousands of hours it took for you to GET TO the place where you can even do this. I promised you some charts and down here the colonies its been cold and they're out in a shed with a foot of snow which is now melting. Do you have Gene Puerlings' chart of Fairest Lord Jesus; known to you as Beautiful Savior ? I'll send that too. Saw Take 6 live Dec. 7 in Ohio. Fantastic as usual. Of course Merry Christmas to you and all. Tom
Thanks Tom! No, I don't have the arrangement. If you sent it to me, that would be fantastic!
D
Total awesomeness.
The Manhattan Transfer is my favorite group, really. Loved them since "Java Jive" and "Tuxedo Junction". This is one of my favorite songs they do. (I used to sing Alan Paul's part) You did a great job with it. As for me The Manhattan transfer can do no wrong. I can say the same for you. Do you do your own arrangements?
Bravo! Great Job! The Manhattan Transfer reborn.
great, just awesome
Nailed it. Nicely done.
Nice. Gene Puerling lived in my neighborhood as a kid. He would have loved this.
