When I moved down there in 1990 the place was a busy thriving town, all of the shops and pubs were open.
After thirty years I moved back to Nottingham but still return here to visit family. You wouldn't believe how much a place could change. Still love it though ❤️🤗
Yes, I can imagine how busy it would have been back then following the history…it is an administrative centre of Torfaen (south-east Wales) so it must have thrived in the past
I have lived in Ponty all my life (since 1982) but rarely go into town now (if at all). This brought back memories...... The Iron Duke used to be a carpet shop if I remember..... we had a TESCO with an escalator, Kwik Save, Woolies, Stead and Simpson on the corner, Terry's Fish Bar, the big carpark by the market entrance where the open air market used to sit, Midlands bank, Barclays bank, and my early hairdresser where me and my dad would go upstairs (was before Wayne came there but cant remember the barbers name)..... Hypervalue further down and the video shop on George Street, just down from the Fountain pub at the top. Thanks for the video

You do get a few more people out in the morning but in the afternoon It's normally quite like this. Wednesday is the busiest day because they have a outdoor market.

@@gowithCheese Don't get your hopes up because one week you could have loads of stalls then another week there will be nothing.
Truth, a shame. I moved to the outskirts of Pontypool in 06, and Pontypool actually had department stores, pubs, open shops, and always seemed busy, especially in summer.
What gets me, if if you are driving through the centre, say on a Christmas Eve, you only see literally a handful of people walking about.
Amazon's of the World, WEF during covid, etc, wiped it out completely.
I really can imagine how busy it must have been in the past…

Was this a Sunday morning? AT 8:10 you walked past the market. was it open?
This was on a Tuesday and in the afternoon and yes, it was opened
Pontypool new cultural centre in church hanbury road 9 million. .and no one will go there
What a waste
Labour must get out of this town . Reform will be in next .then we will get our town back .
