I bought the "Inconvenience" 12" (with the extended 6:40 remix of "Headache" on the flip side) cheap off a German supermarket rummage table in 1985. I had never heard of the band then but listening to that record was *the* turning point for my musical interest. Two years later I had my own radio show at the local alternative station and of course I played "Headache" at my very first broadcast. My taste has broadened hugely since then but this is still a centerpiece of my record collection. I'm currently re-evaluating some of my favourite British bands from back then from a class/race/gender POV and it's obvious that acts like Au Pairs, Slits, Beat, Gang Of Four still are the yardstick for musically progressive and politically aware bands. Thanks for this great find!
Those movements when playing is not what you expected when you only know the vinyl. What a band. And I love Lesley Woods her voice.
Fantastic band, listened to em loads when i was astudent in the 90's.
Only me loving this?? Helps having the original vinyl I guess. The bass does rock!
