symbiotes copies the powers of the person it is attached to (that's why venom in the spiderman universe has spiderman's powers) and they take the personality of the first person that they attach to (carnage wanted to kill his father/venom because his host/ Cletus Kassady killed his father. also, I'm guessing that venom attached himself to an alien that only had one goal "survive" I'm guessing that since Eddie was like venoms father in some ways, he grew onto him even becoming friends) they also take the memories of who they attach to (that's why venom knows so much about the universe)
I love Eddie and venom's relationship because they are in the same body but have different tendencies so it's like mutated split personality
