    How you ever made bigger sheets? Like joined A4 papers together, done one side and then the other?
    I have to cover a cake with a map image, and this would be perfect compared to just using rice paper! But needs to cover a 10inch round 😕 you are awesome! Subscribed!!

    • @delagrazia

      +shannon 1. so if you cover the cake in rice paper with a map on it ..how can that ink be eaten is not foodgrade
      2 .she already said before that cutting it since is so stretchy would b a problem once you put it on a cake ..how will you remove it before eating the cake?

    • @flamingomtn
      @flamingomtn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Myself, I wouldn't cover the whole cake with it. If you want to do that, use icing sheets. You can join Verity's sheets after they're printed and coated with the gelatin mixture by using the same mixture to join the slightly overlapped sheets.

  • @gelypf
    @gelypf 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Verity, thanks for the lovely tutorial. Please, I would like to know if this fabric can be placed on the fondant, because I have noticed that it (the fondant) tends to melt in contact with the gelatine. Thank you very much.

    • @flamingomtn
      @flamingomtn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it can. BUT, it's different to attach. I use corn syrup as a glue and have not had any problem with the fondant melting. Keep in mind that the fabric is fiddly to cut so it's best used as decoration, rather than covering the whole cake.

    • @MissVdubber
      @MissVdubber  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glycerine in the culprit as it is a humectant so reacts with sugar making it "melt".
      The drier the EdiFab is, the less trouble you will have.

      Update: I just tried it on a spring roll wrapper & it did work. Took a few minutes to get stretchy.

      No. It's the same material as the 'host' they use for church communions. Or the so called wafer paper.

    Verity, what do you use to attach the fabric to fondant?

    • @flamingomtn
      @flamingomtn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I answered my own question by trial and error...corn syrup brushed over the fondant seemed to work the best.

    • @henriq4355
      @henriq4355 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can attach it also with light chocolate or syrup as Marti mentioned.

    Rice Paper is the same as Wafer Paper? At which point do I add the pearl or silver dust to get a uni coloured edifab? Do I even use rice paper for that?

    • @MissVdubber
      @MissVdubber  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes they are the same, you have to dust the Edsfab - you chose if it is cornflour, silver lustre dust or a coloured shimmer - your choice totally as long as it is dusted., I dont understand the last biit of your question sorry x

    • @serendepity7
      @serendepity7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Verity Wood Thank you for answering😊 Sorry I'm afraid I wasn't clear enough. My question pointed at if I even use (white) rice paper, even when I wanted the fabric to be coloured e.g. with silver lustre (do I always need to incorporate some kind of rice paper) or if I just colour the gelatine mix and paint it straight on the mat. But as I just read your answer I guess I make white fabric and paint it after its dried, right? Any hints on how I colour it without the lustre rubbing of with every touch?
      Thank you so much 😍 I'm really exited for this technique. You're a genius

    • @delagrazia

      she answered above
      print the rice paper unicolor
      OR
      add colour in the gelatine when is in the jar not after you spread it
      so did you try applying it directly on the mat w/o rice papaer?

    • @serendepity7
      @serendepity7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      delagrazia Oh thank you. I've must have missed it. No I haven't tried the edifab, yet. So if I colour the gelatine mixture I simply use plain white wafer paper?

    I love this and am trying to make flowers but am having trouble with the petals not sticking to each other. Tried using the wet solution as a glue but it dissolved the petals. A tiny dab of water worked but as it dried, the pieces came loose again. Tried: corn syrup, vodka, fondant, marshmallows, taffy, and a heated tool which was the best but hard to apply to right spot before cooling. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

    What type of printer and ink would you recommend?

    • @carolfrazer8067
      @carolfrazer8067 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Edible food coloring into a regular printer. We do it all the time on sugar sheets. This is how you get photos onto cakes. Edible sugar sheets go right into a printer that's been loaded with food coloring.

    • @henriq4355
      @henriq4355 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be the edible ink and printer

    • @ssibble
      @ssibble 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      DO NOT try to use an old printer that used regular inks in it and then try to replace the cartridges with edible ink. Buy a new printer that has never been used and only use edible inks in it.

    If you need to wait for a few minutes, between steps, maybe you could stop taping for that amount of time, and then come back.
