  • I got a lot of hate in my last Dragon's Dogma 2 video. Enough that I think warrants talking about it and addressing the drama. So in this video I will be going over why I came to my conclusions of the game.

    Let's have a civil conversation. It's okay to like or hate this game.

    Basically confirmed where you were going to get most of your confirmation from. Everyone who played the first game and enjoyed it, knew what they were getting themselves into. I can also tell you this and that every player from the first game, even if they enjoyed it, pretty much could of predicted all the hype that would get them to come back over the years, would be centered around a dlc.

    I played the first game and really have problems with this second game. I like it but there are things I absolutely HATE about it. Doesn’t mean I won’t play but it’s just dragons dogma 1.25.

    My opinion, I believe the story of the first game was written and carried out better. The main story of DD2 just falls off after leaving Vermund for Battahl, no continuation of the "Sovran" storyline. The ending and post-game/unmoored world are fantastic, but the rest of the main story seems like 5 different people worked on it and just threw stuff together without ensuring that it made sense or that the story found a logical conclusion. The combat is good, not perfect, but it was disappointing that archer/ranger no longer had its main skill from DD1 (Tenfold Flurry) and that the Mystic Knight class was completely gone. I suspect the released the main game in this way to incentivize people to buy the DLC where they possibly will remedy these issues, but who knows.

    That’s the problem people didn’t play the first game so they didn’t understand the second game then starting moaning because they thought it was something it’s not . People should play the first game in any series to get a better understanding about the follow up game

    If you aren’t researching a game before you get it nowadays that’s on you. You paid $70 based off a mostly cinematic trailer? ESPECIALLY if the game is a sequel. You could have looked at Dragon’s dogma 1 gameplay and watched reviews ahead of time. So if it wasn’t what you were expecting then again that’s on you.

    From my understanding through people who have played the original that this is not a sequel, just a remake & playing the first game is unnecessary to enjoy the second, but it is a valid argument that maybe people were expecting something different

      its not necessary to play the first game to enjoy the second one, however playing the first one helps you get a grip of what you are suppoused to expect, in the end its just all about new ppl having wrong expectations bcuz they are getting introduce to the franchise for the first time which is completely understandable. Also without any spoilers i can asure you this game ITS A SEQUEL, we were wrong about the remake/reboot thing.
      Im a og player so i knew from the begining what the game was all about and i can say that im having a blast.

    so for anyone who hasnt played Dragon's Dogma and is thinking of getting Dragon's Dogma 2, I HIGHLY recommend playing Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen first!
    Currently money is tight and hearing how this game runs on console and pc opted to get the next best thing and play Dark Arisen. its basically the Definitive packaged with its DLC and a bunch of fixes. It's also half the price of DD2
    I am having the time of my life and deeply regret sleeping on this series for so long.
    And considering what I've heard about Dragon's Dogma 2 in terms of story. I feel if you play the first one you'll have a better appreciation for 2.

    I think the main issue with the original video (and why I gave it a dislike) is the title of the video being wrong since it has the word "fans" instead of "me" in it, since you also admit in the video to never having played Dragons Dogma (Dark Arisen).
    As I haven't seen the trailers for DD2 I cannot say how they presented the game there, but it did apparently do its job and get someone who knew nothing of the series to purchase the game.

    • @stillsolo
      @stillsolo  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The title wasn't wrong plenty of people disliked the game. Also here on TH-cam you need to get creative with your titles or else you don't get views.

    • @Syaniiti
      @Syaniiti 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@stillsolo Sure, plenty of people dislike everything and anything, that doesn't mean I get to say that something is true in general even if it is true in one case. BG3 was a hit even though it was a 6/10 for me, but that's just because I like BG1 and 2. So because I was disappointed in BG3 does that mean that "people who enjoyed BG1 and 2 are disappointed by 3" is a true statement? No, because clearly most people weren't.
      So either you are placing yourself on a pedestal as the voice of a fandom, a fandom you are not even a part of according to your own words or you meant literal fans, which admittedly do have to work real hard due to poor optimization of DD2. I don't know fans feel about spinning so much but they can make a lot of noise so it can't be great (or it's the greatest party ever).
      Now if you did do a study or polled enough people then sure, you can make the claim you made in the video title, and it might be an interesting video in its own right going through answers and percentages and reasonings, hell that's literally what the Capcom survey sort of did.

      I have a high hour count, and I love it, but a lot of people forget the difference between Dogma 1 and Dark Arisen and then there are people who never played either. So it's disappointing to see all the negative attention forming around this game. It's good, but it's still not quite ready for mainstream adoption. I'd prefer it not to cater to the mainstream because that's part of the charm. The NPC interactions do need more work, but at the same time, I don't think it needs it. The game is more about combat than story.

    There were certainly aspects of this game i felt were a bit too superficial, like the leveling system not having much in the way of commitment, the story, dialogue ect. Im having a ton of fun though running around and exploring stuff, and a lot of others are too. Your opinion shouldn't be that controversial though.

  • @Bairyhalls47

    DD1 was the first video game I ever played, and I loved it.
    12 years later, DD2 comes out and my disappointment is immeasurable. Not only that there were no improvements made to the combat system, storyline, mechanics etc. It also takes a big step back by trading Arcady movement for a very poorly implemented momentum system.
    I still have over 150 hours in the game, and I hate that casuals are defending this unfinished mess that Capcom released without even playing it enough. These kinda people are why publishers think it’s OK to release unfinished games without having innovated at all on the original formula.
    The combat system was great when the first game came out in 2012. ARPGs generally had crappy combat back then. KOA and DD were a couple of underappreciated standouts. Action combat has come a long way since 2012. Except that DD2 decided to stay in 2012 without innovating or adding any shred of complexity to the combat system.
    Basic attacks + 4 skills?? That’s a baby tier simplistic combat system. How about giving the player a different set of attacks when they alternate between lights and heavies, or pausing between inputs? Having just 4 skills and no combat depth makes the combat get old very fast, especially when we have to fight every 10 seconds while traveling.
    Most skills should’ve been in the vocation’s core instead of being a mappable skill. For example, a fighter’s vengeance slash or any riposte attack should’ve been executed automatically after a perfectly timed deflect. Attacking with your guard up should’ve resulted in a different set of attacks. A warriors shoulder bash should changed his charge times in some way or chained into a different attack. A thief should’ve had concussive leap executed when player attempts to jump while mid-air. every vocation could’ve been improved by adding some level of combat depth instead of just making a simplistic system for the mentally challenged.
    These are the same people who created amazingly deep and complex combat systems like DMC and Monster Hunter.
    The game deserved a lot more love than what Capcom gave it.
    I don’t even want to talk about how crappy the game performs without ruining my day.

    I liked dragons dogma 2, but honestly I liked the first one more than I did the 2nd... Mainly due to the characters and areas were more interesting in my opinion.. Like aelinore and the witch woods deal was interesting. I did think it was interesting seeing the castle from the first game back in the 2nd one :) Which I won't spoil where. I just feel like the 2nd one was a down graded with story and characters compared to the first one. The combat is better in the 2nd one :)

    Not having played the first one is fine. I know someone who didn't like the first game played this one and put it down after like 30 minutes haha. Your opinion while I don't agree with it is completely valid. To be honest I like Dragon's Dogma 1 better than this one. I feel the music is part of the reason, along with the same enemy type groupings and no hard mode. I'm on my third playthrough of the game and everything dies the moment I look at them. My pawns just melt everything drakes go down in less than 2 minutes. I would use mods but I'm not very clear on how that affects the pawn being banned or semi banned.

But they didn’t even change the paint, it’s the same exact screen from the first one as I remember. The combat is the same, nothing looks like it progressed in any way.
